the freedom to think and believe what one wishes. This foundation supports each of the other freedoms: freedom of speech, the press, assembly and petition. They protect the ways people may express their beliefs. Freedom of religion is designed to protect people's rights deepest, innermost beliefs. Not everyone is believes in a monotheistic God. Uh, guys don't understand a God damn thing. You want to sit there and label people as sinners when everyone has the right to believe or follow they want to. Get this through your thick head! Not everyone is meant to be a Christian like you.

People sold themselves into slavery during those times because they couldn’t afford to live otherwise. Whether due to debt, illness, poverty. They sold their children into slavery for many of the same reasons.
Yes, which was also an "indentured servitude", not the slavery we think of today. That being said, what this gentleman is also not understanding about the verse he quoted in Dueteronomy is that those are not the laws of God Almighty. If you read the books of the Old Testament carefully and study the history of what was occurring during those times, the people of God who carried his laws and practiced his ways were called *Israelites.* After they fell away from honoring God (once again, as falliable men are prone to do), they were captured by the Babylonians. Then the religious leaders and their families were taken to Babylon to learn the ways of their captors. During that captivity, we get the book of Daniel where we learn about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who kept to the true Israelite faith and God rewarded them for that; but the others did not and compromised their faith with the babylonian teachings. When the captured Israelites were released back to their homeland, though they left as Israelites, they returned as "Jews". From then on out, that what they were called. This is an important distinction that has been hidden by those who want us to still believe lies today.
These returning "Jews", formerly Israelites, wrote the laws in Dueteronomy and the rest of what we call the Torah. They took the original writtings from when they were Israelites and expanded upon those with the books with those they began to write during the exile in Babylonia, after Judah's destruction in 586 BCE (i.e. the temple priests corrupted the gospel as it was intended to be-- the way the Israelites originally worshiped-- and incorporated Satan-inspired laws of men, as again, falliable humans are so prone to do).
Hence, the Father sent Christ to correct these misunderstandings that were now being presented as the original Israelite faith. He sent his son, who was carrying His Spirit, to show us the TRUTH. This is why Christ would confront the religious priests and say their teachings were wrong and they were following the ways of the Satan, "their father".
Bottom line: The original Israelites and the Jews who returned home from Babylon are NOT the same religion and they did NOT worship the same 'god.' This is an important misunderstanding that people need to take into account when they read the Old Testament, but it is overlooked and ignored, even unto today.
(Edit: sorry for the mini-lecture, but God revealed this to me and I was so shocked that I had been interpreting the Old Testament so wrong that now I try to make sure others see this critical difference too. Don't take my word for it. Pray, and then read the Old Testament up to and after the Babylonian captivity. You'll see that Israelites was exclusively used before that, and "Jews" exclusively used after.)
@chilltarts, you got your reasons a bit skewed. The ones captured by the Babylonians were not the Israelites as you say. They were specifically 2 tribes of Israel collectively called the Judeans (Judah and Benjamin). The other ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel were destroyed by the Assyrians due to their evil ways. The southern kingdom of Judea was more faithful to God, but still repeatedly turned away from him. The line of the Kings of Judea were the descendants of King David. They were called jews as a derogatory term coming from them being Judeans. They ended up taking ownership of that name to describe themselves. It had nothing to do with their religion changing. The Torah was written before the captivity and remains unchanged. You may be thinking of the talmud, which was written after the time of Christ and is the source for rabbinic Judaism.

@@kylejhartman I would say the Holy Spirit. I personally prayed every day for months for understanding and knowledge, that is all I prayed for. I began to see many verses differently, these different interpretations made the whole Bible fit together much more seamlessly.

Actually it make’s perfect sense for a man to be forced to marry a woman after rapping her and then be executed. This would have established her as a widow instead of a whore. We've seen how easily people will twist and bend things to line up with their preconceptions, and that has only become *more* true as time has passed.
I've literally seen people make assertions about one political figure or another with absolutely *no* proof whatsoever, and when challenged to provide proof they simply call you names and run away. I've seen people state that "yeah that makes sense" when provided with a supposed quote about political figures they don't like, but then when it's told that the quote actually belongs to a politician they *do* like, they claim that there must be some explanation or reason why they said it.
People who don't abide in the truth will *always* find a way to hold onto their perception of reality, even if they have to jump through hoops to do it. It's only when they're vulnerable and receptive to the truth that you can finally shatter that false idea.

The word in Deu 22:23 is NOT rape.
Basically, the passage of scripture talks about a situation in which a guy has consensusl sex (very important) with a virgin who is not pledged (engaged) and their fornicating is discovered, then, the man shall pay 50 sheckles of silver to the girls father, AND IF the father decides that he wants the man to do "the right thing" THEN and only then, the man HAS to marry the girl ... whether he wants to or not, whether he loves her or not ... but it doesn't end there because once married, the man cannot EVER divorce her because his right to divorce is removed.
This section of scripture is just one part of what the Lord showed us about how serious marriage, fidelity and sex exclusively within marriage actially is ... something clearly never learned in the world we live in today
Watching encounters like this, I keep in mind that their anger & defensiveness is because they actually do know that sin is sin, in all its various forms. Any/all sexual intimacy (A through Z) outside of marriage is sin.
If they are currently in condemnation and separated from God, there is a battle going on.
I felt like that, too, before God saved me. Though, I didn't behave like that towards others, I have a different personality, it was going on inwards. I experienced and felt those intense feelings. I was lost.
I remember walking past street preachers and hearing the law & grace being preached (the Gospel) for brief moments as I continued walking, the preachers voice eventually fading the further I walked, and I usually found myself starting to cry, everything surging within me. I was fighting it and didnt understand what was going on.
I know now that I was feeling convicted and the Lord was calling me and I was resisting. Big time! 😄
Truly thank God that he is long suffering, patient, and I had so many opportunities to hear the Gospel, God's word being preached, seeds being sown and watered by various people over many years.

Street preaching especially, we need to know our bible and in particular those scriptures that present as awkward. Loved the way the young guy stayed focused on keeping the dialogue going with the young woman whilst the rowdy atheist was demanding attention. He kept his cool and his integrity as a believer.
Just as long as you know that most atheists wouldn't be rowdy. Some people, like those few in this video, can become emotionally charged by a topic, especially LGBT topics.

I'm an atheist, and I would never confront him like this. They are not good ambassadors for atheism.
When a person becomes angry and debates like this, they give their opponent a level of "authority". In reality, preachers have no authority outside what people grant them. So the best option is to just walk by and let them speak out their beliefs. They don't matter in reality. Their "rebukes" are just the opinion of a group of people claiming divine origin.

Here's the rest of the story that God haters and unbelievers alike completely ignore for some reason...
Exodus 21:16 "whoever steals a man to sell him, and anyone found in possession of him shall be put to death." DEATH is the penalty for enslavement. In a time in which slavery was common and fully acceptable, this is a shocking edict.
Exodus 22:21 "do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner." There are several scriptures that command the Israelites to treat foreigners with the utmost care and respect, which of course speaks to the scripture you gave. Please think about it - people in foreign lands have already been enslaved by their own. Who would God rather have them purchased by - someone from a different nation, by which this slave will have no rights or protections, and will not be treated with care or respect...or would he rather have them purchased by one of his, that this "slave" will not only be treated well, but be in an environment to come to know the one true living God, that they might be saved, and have eternal life?
Levitcus 25:49 - 54 To paraphrase this because it's a long passage, "slaves" could purchase their own freedom, or have it purchased by a relative. Please read it for yourself...

- The Hebrew word for slave is "ebed." But it can also mean servant, minister, or advisor. To apply this to scriptures commonly used to make the case that God is for slavery, "slave" cannot be the intended meaning.
- the Hebrew word for purchase is "qnh", which can also mean acquire, or create, also significant in said scriptures.
- the same way a boss of a company today can refer to employees of his company as "my workers", is the same meaning here, as it pertains to slave/ owner relationship. I can get into that more next time if you like.

We must remember how word definitions have been altered. The word "seduces" doesn't mean sex, consensual or non consensual. The Israelites ironically wanted to go back into slavery under the Egyptians several times around the time Joshua, Caleb, and the other 10 leaders went to Canaan to scout it out for the children of Israel. And since they didn’t like hearing the giants inhabited the land promised to them, they had no faith in God so they wished to go back. I believe also when they got tired of eating manna they wanted to go back as well, before sending the scouts.
