  • How about this 3-in-one shear brake slip roll from Harbor Freight? This thing claims it can do it all. Can it back it up?

    I've had mine for 3 years, and use it daily. I mostly use the break and shear, amd it's the most awesome, time saving tool I've ever owned. I use a magnetic light to help see my lines, and I score the metal deep. Especially for the break. By getting a deep score, I've found you can actually feel the score line on the break if you do it right. That makes it possible to get a perfect bend every time. But after a lot of use and abuse, it still works perfectly

      That's great! I can see if this tool is tuned correctly, it should work really well. Just don't try bending 1/8 in. steel!

      @@savingmiller lol.. I'd say 1/8" is a little on the thick side

      @@savingmiller lol.. yeah, that's probably a little on the thick side.. But hey, if you figure out how to adjust it, let us know. I've been tinkering on mine for a bit, and still cant quite figure it out.. lol

      @@ronnie9471I got mine dialed in and works best when there is practically zero clearance. I tried using 4-7% material rule for the gap, but had no luck. You just need to make sure your blades are sharp. Use whetstones to sharpen if not. And my center tension was cranked down quite a bit. I found that using a piece of paper as a test, for clearance; if it flawlessly cuts the paper, you’re good. If it grabs. Too much clearance. I can do 30” wide cuts on 20 ga mild steel. I think the tool steel is only rated for that. Getting accurate bends, you need to account for a bend allowance. You can google for clearance numbers, but there is also equations for you to figure out the offset to your bend. I hold a grudge against harbor freight but I really like this tool, had it for a decade. Hope this helps

    I'm looking at the machine at harbor freight now it's around 600 dollars I'll get it still though I'm also eying the 4x6 band saw and 36in sheet metal bender for a small shop these tools comes in pretty handy especially when you have a creative mind nice of you to point out the good and not so good issues though

    How is the cut edge quality with thin material? Does it leave any burr on sheet or drop?

    Hi
    Do you know what the maximum box depth is on this machine?
    Thanks
    Greg

    • @savingmiller
      @savingmiller  Před 3 lety

      Hi Greg, it looks like 5 in. is about the max. But if you are doing a small box you could probably get to 6.

      You can change the fingers around and get almost any break length you want by moving them around bundling different sizes together

    • @savingmiller
      @savingmiller  Před 3 lety

      I rather doubt it. For steel that size you probably need a dedicated roller.

      I doubt it'd do 3/8.. maybe 3/16 but that may be pushing it

    This can’t be a true review tbh bc you said your barely use it. Eastwood has one much better quality/long lasting model if you can afford it. Harbor freight stuff just doesn’t last. The brake finger get get bent and the shear stops cutting after a couple months of use
