I remember the craziness surrounding 2011 and those events. The reason people sacrificed it all was because they expected they were going to heaven so no need to keep anything for afterward. Why not experience the world and life before it ends. Just another cult, but instead of drinking koolaid they just went on shopping sprees. I would joke he's a year too early, 2012 is the real fun end! People get obsessed with the end of times because they crave control of their future.
My first time hearing Judgment Day is also a funny one. My first thought was, "Oh, is that a movie releasing on May 21, 2011?" Thanks to someone who reassured me, I soon learned it was a religious term and much less exciting than I had imagined. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one who had a misunderstanding about the term. Everyone had a good laugh about it.
I just remembered something so as I said earlier I've seen every religion and during my time learning about Christianity I started looking into different churches and noticed the differences so I asked my local pastor about it and he explained to me to that there were different sects of religious beliefs and how just because people believe differently doesn't mean they are wrong which as I saw all the different versions of Hinduism made sense ( He was a nice understanding person who helped me understand myself ) however he also made sure I understood that not everyone had good intentions and to be very weary as people in my country are very superstition minded ( including my family ) and people will take advantage of it
Turns out he was right as the number of scams I've seen from pop up churches , to mad shamen , to Mystic Jin ( Islamic evil spirits ) killers and much much more

In regards to micha (unsure of how to spell I'm bad at names.) about the hellboy comics. These are likely the same people who were outraged about the Doom games. Saying it was saitanic and gonna corrupt people.
I do feel bad for the people whose lives got so thrown out the window by all of this. Quitting jobs or education, or that guy who wasted his retirement fund. That guy has no way to recover from that, and just ruined his final years of rest. I don't feel bad about those who got huge loans or racked up their credit cars, though. That's basically theft; borrowing something and thinking you have some way of getting out of paying it back is just a scumbag move.
I really like Micah's insight as a Christian who has faith and knows the schematics behind what Mr. Camping was doing. The words to numbers thing--I didn't even realize that the problem was the language. I just thought it was nonsense, but after he said that and I looked it up, I realized it's a much older concept than I thought. His comment about the difference between religion and "charisma cults" was also quite profound.
Anyway, that's just a snippet of the new info I got from his response. I'm no longer a Christian (I believe in God, but the religious practices, not so much...I unfortunately got the charisma cult treatment), but it's nice to know that there's a visible example of a reasonable one here.

I just wonder if God is real and All-knowing and he keeps an eye on people who like to calculate (guess) judgement day and chuckles until one guy is right but no media pays attention to him so he does nothing but if there's a right guy with public attention he just goes "damn it, now i have to change the date" lol

As for what they were thinking, the rapture means they are either called to heaven or left behind. So they believe nothing matters anymore. Because they will either ascend to heaven or be left behind for the apocalypse. So either way they might as well spend their savings.

Jesus was supposed to make his 2nd coming when some - though not all - of his apostles were still alive. Considering it's been two thousand years...I think they've been stood up.
I wouldn't be surprised if my church never even heard of Harold Camping despite he's radio stations being around our area. Because we're Greek Orthodox and, at least in my experience, don't listen to a lot of Christian radio stations since they're mostly protestant or Catholic and preach things contrary to Orthodox beliefs.

I'm still wondering how he got Atonement = 5, Completeness = 10, and Heaven = 17. If anything I would've expected Heaven to equal 7 because 7 is often portrayed as a "holy" number. Genuinely, if anyone knows how that math works I'm all ears.
Regardless of your faith, Camping was a real example of taking the Lord's name in vain as far as the Bible was concerned (claiming to speak on behalf of God when under any definition he absolutely didn't). Ego run amok.
This kinda helps with my anxiety because so many people try to say we are here, that this is it and link their own feelings into it, like hope through prophecy or Bible flock box, htp I think linked divorce as a sign of a decline in love for one another.
I just wish people will accept that we do not know, know man knows the day, so live your life as good as you can, accept Jesus, but don't be afraid to live your life because others may think you're sinning.

If you get anxiety from being afraid of death. That’s only because you haven’t lived a full life or have done things that will make you feel satisfied because you got to do it. I’m young and I noticed a lot of people who are accepting of it because they are satisfied. My biggest fear is losing loved ones like my grandparents, because they have been such an integral part of my life the idea of them not being there is frightening. Is no one going to mention how egotistical it is to base the equation for the date of the rapture on the day that he decided to find the date to the rapture? It's also circular reasoning as the answer would change dependent on the year that he used the equation on. Very dumb, honestly I couldn't not see this, it really annoyed me.
Also just a little opinion piece here as someone who's seen every religion by having more family members than I'd like
Take every religious preachings and scriptures less as a be all , end all of how to live your life and rather though the eyes of it being a metaphorical teaching similar to how Journey to the west teaches Buddhism dispute the story not being even close to how things actually worked

The Bible actually does guarantee in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 a "gathering together" unto Christ (which is the Rapture, which is not the same as Judgement Day, ie Armageddon, ie the final battle) but does not say the date, only the time frame, "that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;" Basically, when the Antichrist is revealed to the world, that's when it happens.
