This composition is based on Raag “Darbari Kanada”
Raag Darbari Kanada belongs to the “Asavari” Thaat.
The notes include Komal Gandhar - Dhaivat and Nishad - rest all notes are Shuddh.
Darbari Kanada is classified as a “Sampurna-Sampurna” category of raag, which means, it uses 7 notes in the aaroh (ascent), and 7 notes in the Avroh (descent)
“Vadi Swar” - रे (Re), “Samvadi Swar” - प (Pa), Anuvadi Swar - नि॒ (Ṉ)
The Raag presents a “Serious” mood which is best experienced during late night.
Aaroh - नि़॒ सा, रे ग॒ रे सा, म प, ध॒, नि॒ सां ।
Avroh - सां, ध॒ , नि॒, प, म प, ग॒, म रे सा ।
Pakad - ग॒ रे रे, सा, ध॒ नि॒ सा रे सा ।
Darbari Kanada is a grave raga, played deep into the night, considered to be one of the more difficult to master, and with the potential for profound emotional impact. It is referred to as “The Emperor of Ragas” and one of the deepest ragas in Hindustani classical music and hence, slow and elaborate 'meend' and 'andolan' are generally more preferred than light and frivolous ornamentations like murki or khatka.
The improvisation of Darbari is done more in the mandra and madhya saptak, or lower and middle octaves.

Really great pastuti. Iam 73year old to day i also ply this song on my harmoniyam. I bilive thdt it is only ashavari but now i undarstend p of mand saptak olso used.so it is darbari kanda.

Sir Namaskar - immense pleasure knowing how much you liked this rendition. Darbari is a Raga that pulls a listener instantly. My first fascination towards this Raga was when as a child I used to listen to my Uncles play it beautifully on Violin. Then upon learning I discovered more nuances of this royal Raga and it became my favorite one. This Raga presents a very deep emotion in a very royal way.
I can understand the connection with "Radhike Tune Bansuri Churayi" - But Its on Raag "Adana" which also uses the same notes, and belongs to the Kanada family of Ragas. Hence it appears as "Darbari". But there are differences - Darbari blossoms in the lower octaves while Adana is sung in higher octaves (Radhike Tune also starts in the middle octave and blossoms in taar saptak). There are differences in usage of the notes that keep the Ragas different. Its this depth of classical music which keeps me attached.
