- We are touring a 1982 Endeavour 40 Centre Cockpit. It is a beautiful boat! And checks most of the boxes for what we are looking for; Aft cabin, huge engine room, spacious galley, big vberth, and more.
We get pretty serious about this one and take it out for a sea trial to see what it is like in action. We got lucky with a perfect day for it and lots of fun was had! We thoroughly go over this boat and the systems before considering even getting a survey.
Lots to contemplate with this one. In the end, we do decide to put in an offer!

Welcome to being an Endeavour Owner. I have an Endeavour 42 CC. This is my first piece of advice for you. Make sure you remove every drawer in the boat. There is a lot of stowage under that owners stowed item there. You wouldn't believe all the treasures I found in all the nooks and crannies. Enjoy your E40.
Good to know! Thank you
You NEED to get Survey. And A Good one!
Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
Oh yes. Agreed.
I just want to say congratulations to you and your family for getting out there and having a go at realising your dreams.
Thank you. We really are having the time of our lives pulling this dream together.
Sounds like a great adventure! I'll tag along for a while
Always make your offer subject to sail and survey. You've had the sail, make sure it's a full in and out of water survey. A reputable surveyor will check moisture content, especially around the areas of concern.
Nice looking boat.
Agreed.
How exciting! Glad I found you guys!
Welcome.
So good to meet you guys yesterday! That is a killer arch. I feel like it’s screaming for 1200-1500 watts of solar!!
Absolutely. I hope it’s cause the of the arch, and not because you tired of my generator. 😅
@@sailingtheatlas not at all. We don’t even hear it! Those little guys are quiet.
Have subscribed, so now I'm part of your land lock sailors . You seem to be a Loverly Family and I believe this will be a great channel etc . I think you will be up front with everything . I look forward to your next episode . smooth seas people .Bob from Australia .
Welcome aboard! Thank you. We do try to be as transparent as we can. We feel like that’s a way of paying it forward. Those/these types of videos from many channels held our dreams together for many years.
hoping ya'll can get the boat... can't wait to see ya out there.
Thank you. Cheers
Good on you guys and I love what your doing as I'm a northern from Ontario. Ca and no doubt will be shopping for a live-aboard boat in the near future.. Where to start hey! enjoy your new life I know where your coming from cheers.
Thank you. Good luck.
Great to watch you realise a dream. I hope it is every thing you wanted
Well, is it ever really? Lol. But when are boats ever perfect?
Survey survey survey, always get a survey, especially if you're not real savvy with boats, especially sailboats. As for the water ingress it depends what the hull is made of, if there any timber in the cabin top or if it's solid glass. For me if the price was right I'd happily take on some glass work, it's a nice boat with a lot going for it, motor wise, dual alternators, a/c that arch/davits and 40 foot is a good size
Yes absolutely. Surveying a boat this age is a must. Especially when you know what you know isn’t enough, yet.
Good luck guys , enjoyed the episode
Thank you.
Looks like a great boat! The only negatives for me would be that it is not cutter rigged and there was no mention of a generator if you want HVAC on the hook. Also, I hope there is Bimini / dodger canvas stored below or that is expensive work, but she will take good care of the family I’m sure.
We have a small generator. Unfortunately can’t run the HVAC. We will figure something out in the future. Also, there is a full enclosure. Needs some work but we have the skill set to get it done and it is fine for the time being.
Sounds like a good start . ❤
Wonderful, that answers a lot of questions! I am very excited for you, looking forward to seeing everything progress and work out for you!
Thank you
Good luck to good people! 😙
Thanks.
It was awesome sailing and super cool editing. Can’t wait to see what is next 😮😮😮😮 waiting with 4 👀 😅😅
Congratulations!! I’m excited to watch your journey as boat owners ♥️ new subbie here 👋🏾
Thank you so much!!
Hi ❤ Excited to watch the Adventure begin
Awesome thank you.
It's a 1982 boat so you are always going to get problems as long as the engine is good, the nav gear fairly recent and the sails not too old, the surveyor should find any other problems.
Agreed.
Great start! Buy it! See you in The Bahamas! Currently living on a 1984 H34. It's all fixable.
Sounds great!
SURVEY IS ALWAYS A REAL GOOD IDEA WITH A REAL TOP NOTCH PRO , 1982 is a long time ago !
Oh yes. We asked around about who is the best in the area.
Great video, purchasing a boat is a process. I just finished purchasing my Catalina 42' and it is never easy. Congrats on your new boat !
Thank you.
Gorgeous boat. Good luck with the survey
Thank you
Hello. We are from Alberta as well and just subscribed to your channel.
Awesome. Thank you.
Luv u Guys I remember mt buying a boat yeehaa! the survayor should be able the state of the cabin tops etc.
Best of luck guys.
subbed as i am currently fixing up my snapdragon 24 so i know how you feel having to make sure you can do the jobs
Yeah it's a lot to consider.
good luck! You know what they say about boats. Its a hull to throw money in.

i am from Canada as well. I purchased our boat in Maryland and can give you some pointers as well. We still keep it there and will be doing the great loop very soon.
Very cool. We have met several loopers or future looper already. Good luck.
Just do it, youll work it out, just repair what needs to be done and get out there🏴☠
Thank you.
Moisture meter will help and great surveyor
Yes sir.
Cool video I got a glimpse of my boat too 😎
Whaaaaaaa? No way I’d used that part of that shot just for you guys. I’d never. 😉 lol
Pay close attention to the survey. Don't ignore deck and/or hull issues. Those can make a perfect boat into a nightmare.
I really hope things work out for you!
Thank you.
get a survey. with the vessel out of the water.
Once you get a survey in/out of the water, work out the cost of the repairs deduct that from your bid, remember if your doing repairs you will have a good affinity with the vessel when their finished this is all part of a seafarers life, it's better to get some practice in because there is always something to fix on a boat...
Ain’t that the truth.
Old movie "this is the Valhalla, the yawl Valhalla"
Being You are From the North. Have you spent any Length of time In Hot Humid Climates. My guess is your going to hate sweating all day and all night In the Caribbean. Cause if you think you'll just use AC all the time on a boat, You are in for a rude Awakening. 80% of Northerners give up and move back North Because they hate the heat and humidity.
Just Hope you have taken that in to consideration and spent at least a couple of weeks In Hot humid climates and have decided, Yes we LOVE the Heat.
That has definitely been something we have talked at length about. We have also spent quite a bit of time in warmer climates (Caribbean, Africa, Asia). As northerners who are absolutely over living where the air hurts our face, the heat is actually one of the things we are most looking forward to but we aren’t ignorant to how much of a change it will be.
This is interesting. I looked at a 43 endeavor ketch today
Awesome. I would have gotten a ketch had one been on radar.
For payment, fastest and cheapest way. Send crypto, ie bitcoin, in amounts under 10,000 can. Wait time? About a minute or two, cost, a few bucks. Other blockchains are cheaper, like Xlm or Ada. Seller can swap it to fiat, you can even negotiate a better price. No third party to stop or hold payment ❤👍😉🙏 Good sailing guys, I too am a Canuck born in AB. Also lived on a 52ft for 7 years.
Thank you.
1982 is good, cause the hulls where much thicker than in these days ... bullitproofed
Exactly.
Want to find every last leak. Seal off all hatches, air vents, fume stacks, fresh air intakes, even close drainage thruhulls. using plastic & masking tape. Get a good blower, high volume vacuum cleaner works and pressurize the cabin through a dorade for several hours. Then go over all possible water entry areas with a soap solution by ''brush'' or spray on and look for the little extra bubbles to appear. Cabin Must have a Positive Pressure vs the outside air.
Interesting. Wouldn’t have thought about going about it that way. Thanks.
Break out another thousand lol
Absolutely. Right?
boat Yoga, hehehe actually it should be law tht all boat have to be fully outfitted befog any systems are installed. then the have to be installed by minimum 6'2" 250 - 300# fat guys . thats all systems, engine, plumbing, electrical, hvac , all systems. Be easy to work on a boat like that.
Biggest problem with the Endeavor is the floors are not long enough or tabbed very well also it's very common for the keels to get very waterlogged.
But all in all they are good boats, watch for issues with low mounted tanks corrosion(as with any boat)
Yanmar, like volvo parts can be hard to get sometimes. Stock up on spares when in major centers. It's not like the kubota where most farm supply shop carry or can quickly get the parts
Lmao. Absolutely! That is how boats should be made. Thanks for the heads up on common issues.
@@sailingtheatlas Yea, any time you have to get access to anything, make the access hatch as big as possible. A bit of extra work now will make life much easier in the future. Especially access to pumps and valves. There is no such thing of a hatch too big as long as it's structurally supported
@@sailingtheatlas years ag , my buddy had one of those, he had two kids so he converted the rear cabin into two smaller cabins. got rid of the aft head and put a shower in the area across from the forward head. Two heads on a small boat like that is a waste of space.
@mazdarx7887 I hear ya. We have talked about converting one of the heads into a dedicated shower/wet locker.
Please don’t buy it!!
Insurance companies don’t like to insure a boat older than 20 yo
The hull no matter what will have to be re hailed immediately because it’s extremely old
The engine will also have to be over hauled
Electronics? New navigation packages are extremely expensive
You’re much better off buying a 10 yo boat with NONE of these issues.
You will regret buying this money pit in less than a year.
