    Zip code man? That is Mr Zip. I love anything with Mr Zip on it. Husseys is a Local Post and are listed in Scott. So are the Western Union stamps. Very unusual but fascinating collection. Obviously an eclectic collector. I love it!

    Wow Silk! Love it. You found something really nice and I love the little album book. The individual that made it loves stamps too!

    A mixed bag philatelically and investment wise but a priceless artifact of life in the early 1940s. Please keep this together! Would love to know who put this together. I imagine it was a youth without a lot of money. Scrounging through the family's collection of old mail. Asking gramps for transfer stamps for the stocks he sold to get through the depres😂sion, saving the duck stamps from a last prewar hunting trip with dad to Foggy Bog, Wisconsin or Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. Remember, in those days St. Paul was the last civilized stop before a thousand miles of wind swept prairie between the Mississippi and the Pacific.

    I think that was the most interesting album purchase so far on your videos!

    A hundred bucks is not too much is the content is right. I saw tons of precancels and cinderellas as well, so it´s the task for some specialists to figure out the market value. I personally think that you did quite well with this album, just keep it "as is". Greets from GER, U.

      Such a risk... there were four or so pictures, but one was of that St Paul page and I knew..... for the type of collector I am, well worth it, regardless of the actual value.

    The Hussey's stamp is a reprint of a local stamp from the late 19th century. Looking at the video of the landscape as you were driving I thought it looked Minnesotaesque, then come to find out you are a fellow Saint Pauler.

    Great find and worth every cent. You can’t put a price on the enjoyment you clearly had from travelling back in time to share in the effort and passion someone lovingly put into assembling that little album.

    Whoa!!!! I am sooooo envious. You made your money back on the duck stamps alone. But the amazing unusual stuff...unbelievable.

    At 19:50 there is a page of Christmas seals, and it has three copies of the beautiful 1939 Christmas seal, two in the third row and one in the fifth row, showing an angel with a halo. it was designed by the famous American artist Rockwell Kent. I have a mint block of four of this stunning stamp in my Art Deco collection.

    17:04 the ones on the right hand sight might be the bread stamps. At times of war governments were to issue those stamps in booklets per families to control the stocks and to ensure every family will equally get their share

    I believe you definitely got your moneys worth. I love pre cancelled stamps! All the extras were great, especially the Christmas. In an odd little collection I purchased, someone’s friend sent them Christmas seals from Sweden with a nice note explaining what they were. Anything Christmas is always an added bonus 😊

    Love this book as it shows so much care plus you are likely to have the Kansas cancels which carry some premium.

    Some of those revenue stamps could be well worth the $ as well as some of the precancels. the labels and history is something we don't see anymore. one to to get stamplift rather than tear out pages and soak. I n that way you can save the gum

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  Před 4 měsíci

      Great advice... will definitely use stamp lift if I go that route, though I'm leaning to keeping the collection as is. Such a wonderful little album...

      Local auction site, for estate sales... I don't see stamps all that often, but I keep my eye on it... :)

    There is a lot of obscure material here. I wonder how many of these items are stuck down on the pages (which will reduce the value, especially for the unused ones).This is an interesting collection but one whose value is difficult to assess. Also, the Hussey Express stamp might be a reprint/forgery.

    Yes you got rooked ! Rule #1 in auctions never get emotional during a auction the thrill of winning against a aggressive bidder can lose you money fast! And you have to assume the other bidder is the person who posted the item and is trying to up the price but if you like it that’s all that matters .

  • @chrissahar2014
    @chrissahar2014 Před 4 měsíci

    I disagree -- I think you got a fair deal as some state cancels (as I wrote before the Kansas ones may) carry a premium.

      Thx for the info... why are Kansas precancels sought after?
