    The meaning is very simple. Very soon, people will be getting poorer and needs to squeeze in smaller flats. All the CPF and whatever thing you do is useless. The rich just keep carving money out from every level and get richer.

      In this video, after she sold her 4 room flat, some parts of the money will be transfered to CPF and some maybe cash. So she has both that is cash in hand and CPF savings for her retirement.

    Madam Hamidah daughter should apply her own house stay with her kids. Sad to hear that madam Hamidah and husband sleeps outside while the kids sleep inside? Madam Hamidah husband need a comfortable bed instead due to the sickness that he has. Hope madam Hamidah daughter apply for her own house and leave with her kids instead.

      @Atam. Every buyers get to buy at the same pricing. No such thing as selling it expensive to senior citizens. This lady bought her new 2 room flat which was cheaper than resale flat. She downgraded her flat by selling her previous 4 room flat so that she could earned money to support her husband.

      @@azzmie9242 Agree with you. In fact Singaporeans regardless of age, who bought BTO flat for first time will qualify for subsidy. Most of us want to retire in comfort and less financial burden. Hence some will let go of their bigger flats.

    Mak Cik, what u did was a good move. As a mother or wife. The most important thing is to get a roof over your head. Sorry to hear your husband n yourself have to sleep in the living room. That is what parent's love is all about. Be happy n be safe.

    I hope their daughters work hard and save more money and than buy their own 3 room flat. So that these 2 old folks have enough space to enjoy their retirement in the tiny house and their grandkids do not need to squeeze in there too. The fact is, 47sqm flat has its limitation for human traffic but because of their situation, it is understandable and hopefully a short term solution. I believed most of their CPF is locked after selling their old house, and they are about to live on piecemeal CPF handout once they reached 65 and above.

      Singapore is small but I'm sure there's at least a bit more space to spare. From my experience when viewing the flat, the carving of the space is also a bit weird, odd shapes that doesn't make full use of space.

      there are 2rm, 3rm, 4rm, 5rm and exec condo type of public housing in singapore to choose from...what you choose to buy depends on your income and financial means...this old couple has downgraded from a 4rm flat to a 2rm flat and in the process made some money for their old age...

    I'm glad that government implemented the 2 room flexi flat. Other than Mdm Hamidah, my grandaunt is another beneficiary. I'm sure that there are many out there who have also benefited due to the circumstances we were in. Having our own home no matter how small it is, definitely makes us feel more secure and happy!
    For Mdm Hamidah's family, 6 people staying together in a 2 room flexi is indeed squeezy. I wish her all the best in moving to a bigger space when financial situation becomes better. :)

      I am single. And own a 2 room bto, yes easy to clean. I, within 30 mins clean finish my home.

    As long, we really do have a good place to stay and it doesn't matter small or big. Everyone has their own problems. Children will need to work hard that's there duty for themselves and apply for their own HDB flats for the lower incomes. One happy family is very important!
    Old ppl will have their own sickness but we all pray so that we can still manage....
    Senior citizens in Spore Govt, they do give priorities as I understand.....Still not too bad

    Talking about 2-Rm. the Govt should consider allowing Singles to apply for 2Rm when they are 33 yrs old. When the flats are completed, they will be 37 yrs old by then. Unlike those 35 yrs old Siingles buying resale which they can move in immediately.

    its both saticfaction & sad when i watched this..satisfied with the house's cleanliness but at the same time feel sympathy with the sad fate for average citizen seniors in Singapore
    i hope Singapore will not turn into another HK for their average citizen residentials..we want to live & die as humanely as possible

      Actually many average seniors lived in bigger flats but after their children married and moved out, they sold it for a profit and down size to 2RM flexi and fully paid.

      me too! smaller house means lesser cleaning up to do since i am lazy. i don't have to walk so far to the kitchen, bathroom and etc... since everything is so compact. instead of walking , i can just roll my way around the house. walking takes too much effort and i like to be effortless as much as possible.

      you can choose the amount of years you want to stay in the flat. But actually HDB stipulates the age and number of years. its not cheap. i chose 35 years because of my present age. i have to pa y $16,100 on top of the sale price. why they do that I dont know. ! it was initially 15k, when i asked why now its 16k , i was told , 'OH becasue of your present age... what the heck!

    Felt sad when i heaard the word divorce....... but you know what i hope their daughter found someone and able to move into her own home. :) Singaporean used to dream of big houses... buut........... meh.... smaller is a blessing too. Cost of living some more going up so..... bill also look sweet every other month hahahaha.

    An average Singaporean now finds it hard to even maintain a 4 room flat and has to eventually downgrade as they get older. Sad time for Sgporeans under this current gov regime.

    They should've rent out 2 bedrooms and use the income to feed themselves. Really 2 Room should be a full 99 year. Like how can expect people stay so short.

      Let's say she sell her original house for $400000 lah, she get the money straightaway. But if she rent out 2 rooms and say each room is $500, she get $1000 per month. One year is only $12000. She need 33 years for the rental income to equal the one shot sale of $400000!!!
      I think too many people are obsessed with this rental income that they forget Pri 3 maths.

      @@chinchang5117 she don't need to sell immediately, you forget about her daughter and the 2 children. At least they have a place to stay. Go and stay until a 35year lease, alamak her 1980s yishun 4 room flat is so bloody spacious of course she cramp. At least she die, touchwood her daughter don't know whether can afford a house got a place to stay. 33 years of income. Her four room flat mind you is the 1,000 sqft kind with tons of space. Don't say her daughter, her grandchildren get married also got a place to stay. Want to divide 4 bedroom one person one room also can.
      Now stay until like this, and for such a ridiculous lease. She sell 400,000, cash out about 280k, then still need buy furniture and renovate everything. Left behind maybe 250k, a lot meh? And what she probably keep in the bank and leave it to depreciate or pay the husband bill. And the worse of all, is to sleep in the living room, don't even have privacy.

      @@MrBoliao98 After u sell yr house for $400000 and downgrade, make sure u have at least $350000 left. U dun go and spend money on furniture or renovation, ok???
      After that, u go and invest in something else that pays say 4%. 4% x 350000 = 14000 per year.
      Sell house for 400k and then must straightaway spend 150k? U better dun sell yr house lah. Left hand give u money, right hand lost immediately.

    Am reading comment to look for any negative comment. The only negativity i found is me .
    I remember as a kid living in this type of house in blk 9 north bridge rd . Life was much simpler back then. As much as I dislike the gov, this is one thing I respect. Provide good shelter and utilities for the people.

    HDB flats used to be bigger. The same 4 room flat now and back then is vastly different in size. With this trend, we will eventually be crammed into smaller flats and this 2 room is just the beginning. Having said that, I am thankful for our government to explore possibilities for all income groups. However at the end of the day, I don't think capitalism is the solution we all had been hoping for. It will prob fail one day.
