Checking Koi in Main Pond - High class Koi *JUMBO KOI*BLEEDING GILLS?*

Today we pulled a few Koi out of the main pond to double check underneath and make sure there were no damages. With the big Koi we have to use a bit of sedate so we can turn them over and check.
Some of the Koi are for sale and some already sold.
Many people as me why some Koi bleed from the gills, one of our big Chagoi did exactly this when we checked her out. This is pretty much like nose bleed, no big deal. Good to catch on the video though.

I'm very fond of that Shinoda Doitsu Kohaku, she's a beauty, very nice. The first Kohaku I imported from Niigata died the same day I got him, he jumped out of the pond. I felt just sick about it, never forgave myself.

Wow hoping my koi fish survives a day before going camping and I took the koi out with a net too see genders of them and they started bleeding. Like a chunk of blood thing came out the fin . Idk if he is resting or gonna go. This is crazy didn't think I could harm a fish taking um out of water...

Love the videos! Quick question, how come you don’t breed the fish? Can you only bread them in hot climates? For example why can’t you do what China does ?
Many places breed Koi, mainly just numbers for sale and don’t try and breed high quality Koi. Only eh Japanese breeders can do that. Breeding Koi is not commercially viable for me.
The Masaki goshiki is top notch Tim. I really like Masaki san. Isn’t he the nephew of Saito san?I remember we had to knock him up out of bed twice when I visited in the 2018 autumn. His asagi and goshiki really impressed me

There is no doubt your a expert fish handler, but why don’t you have the bowl the same height as the pond,. I was really worried about you dropping one onto the floor.

Them last 2 koi r my cup of tea just in middle of building my pond 10x6x6 will bee having a Nexus 220 or 320 so can't wait not had pond in 6 years

Try to turn the Koi upside down when you carry them, they will lay absolutely still
I’m curious, do you use drops of clove oil in the water of tub to sedate them or something else? I was taught to use clove oil to sedate my koi back in the late ‘90’s and it always worked well and my koi recovered quickly once back in pond.
We use a professional product called MS222. It’s the only anaesthetic made for the aquatic industry.
All very stunning koi! Great to see mate, quick Q, do koi in Japan ever suffer with carp pox? Do you have experience in fish with carp pox? Its unsightly to see on a fish to say the least but am I right in thinking alot to do with genetics? Keep up the great vids, look forward to the next one 👍
Some Koi I see have it Brett. I don’t think anyone knows exactly why it happens. Temps usually sort it.
