  • It feels like everyone is cutting their Locs off and honestly I feel some type of way about it, but at the same time, I'm reminded that this journey is not for everyone and that's what makes it so special.

I’m not cutting mine, I don’t understand it at all 🤷🏽‍♀️ in my mind there is nothing better than locs, it’s what our hair was meant to do. Yep, I believe that locs hold energy & connect with the universe. They are a roadmap of our life journey. All this “spookyness” about it being bad energy is not for me but hey, guess it’s not for everyone. I mean with locs, my hair is always “done”.

EXACTLY!!! No better hairstyle than Locs!!! I was literally lost and confused before I got Locs 😂😂 and yes I’ve heard people talk about the bad energy and I’m just like ok… I can’t agree with it but hey, your thoughts are your thoughts 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

I think they mean they said bad energy: i had a bad breakup but now I’m in a better place so I’ll trim the bad parts of my life away and start anew(or completely) or something along those lines or I’ve had them in high school and stuff like that.

You can feel it…it’s a spiritual thing. I once too had the same thought process you had. I loced my hair for the esthetics. But then as soon as I loced my hair I was taken on a spiritual journey that I literally didn’t ask to be taken into ..felt like I was just pushed into it. Didn’t understand what they meant that locs hold energy until I hit this years mark in my loc journey…NOW I understand. The amount of energy your locs holds isn’t for the weak. But everyone path isn’t the same. What ever journey God has for you is literally for you and everyone will not understand.

I like the freedom to get my hair wet- to swim, to walk in the rain, to keep those poisonous products off my head . to unsubscribe to the billion dollar industry product temptation. I don't miss that scary sizzle of the hot comb or the burning of the processing chemicals. I don't miss wearing other folks hair on my head and having to think about where that hair comes from. and if hair holds energy ?or how embarrassing it is if your wig falls off. I accept myself and that means my hair too! That's just me though. For anyone who wants to cut for any reason, that's thier business so don't come for me,

I am a huge believer that all hair holds energy. It is why you will often see people cut their hair after traumatic experiences. Whatever you are going through, your hair goes through it too.
Also, I think a lot of people have been getting locs for the trend. They like the look but not the lifestyle and once they want something different, they cut them/comb them out.

  • @brittanyalonge

I started my locs from the bottom and had them for almost 7 years. I cut them because it was just time. I had a lot going on in my life the last 4 years of my journey and they just needed to go because I felt my locs were holding on to all of that.
Also, the journey is not the same for all. The journey doesn’t mean keeping them for life. It could have more to do with what you learned during your journey.

You're very brave for addressing this issue. They WILL come for your neck, lol.
So I'll be brave too: MANY of us are not used to having abundant hair. We're not. It feels foreign. We feel guilty. Because there are still a Tremendous amount of our sistars who are bound in Hair Hell.
What's Hair Hell? I want long hair but I don't want long Coarse hair. I hate my wigs but I love the lie they tell me. Etc., etc., etc.....a vicious cycle.
Be encouraged though. You can't have a taste of steak....then go back to eating bologna. Many people who cut today.....will regrow tomorrow......cause their heart will NEVER forget the freedom.
It Does hurt. But you Must disconnect yourself from it. SOME people will cut their locs JUST BECAUSE they know it causes You Pain. Think I'm lying?
Why else Come to a Loc Appreciation group and ANNOUNCE "I'm cutting my locs off"?????🤔
    Kinda narcissistic, really.
Protect YOUR energy First, Dear Sistar.
    *And stay loced and Loaded.*
(For the record, I cut MY first set. I wasn't used to #Abundance yet. It felt.....unholy.. 🙄After re-growth, you can't Look at Me with some fucking scissors, lol)

The thing that gets me is when people cut them like, 1-3 years in... It just feels like a waste.
Cutting off hair is definitely a trauma response (I've shaved mine before, it was actually cute lol).... But yeah, I guess it creates the feeling of a fresh start, but honestly, it's unnecessary.
There are other ways to handle stresses (like simply accepting your reality, and taking healthy actions to shift).

Lol I don't have time for loose natural hair anymore. I had to find a middle ground: I loved being natural but I was tired of fighting my natural hair's desire to tangle up and hug eachother. So I surrendered, left it loc itself up and I love it ❤️, I've never been more at peace. I'm not cutting my hair point blank lol I've done the boy cut too many times. Your crown aka our heads are the control center of our bodies. We carry so much power in our crowns. For example, I was raped at age 10 until I was 14. By the time I was 12, there was nothing sexually I hadn’t done. I used to get terrible headaches…when I went to therapy, she broke down that my head is one place I hold trauma. Our loc tresses is simply hair intertwined within itself. What you carry internally can and will manifest physically. This is why it’s sooooo important you be careful who’s in your space and even the hands that touch your hair. The transference of spirits and energy is powerful.

All hair holds energy but locs hold MORE enrgy because its not loose. My locs were the stay of my spiritual journey. Locs are literally like antennas. I cut mine off after 3 years. The longer they got the more i could feel. The more i went through, it was like my hair processed it. It may seem outlandish but it was real. But i deeply miss my locs and I'm a starting a second set or reattaching, i havent decided yet. ❤

Idk about the "bad energy" part but most times we go through things in life and we want a "fresh start" or a do over we tend to cut our hair or do some sort of hair transformation. I'd cut off my loose hair N it gives you a different feeling like letting go of that bad energy i guess... and with locs they'll Comb them out or cut them off completely. I guess that's for those who express themselves through their hair.

It is tough when you see one of your YT channels cut their locs. A couple have cut their locs to start new loc journeys and I am here for that! It's important to feel good about your hair. I'm 5 months in now. Hooray! I am in it for ever and I had fought locking my hair for years. My daughter loc'd her hair 6 years ago. Her hair is down to her bra strap in the back now. I hope I live long enough to see my hair get that long. Even if I don't I do not regret having loc'd my hair. It is so liberating! Perhaps that is why I have not had an ugly hair day since starting this journey. I could not say that as a loose natural for 12 years. New subbie here!

Omg thank you for making this video!! I thought it was just me experiencing this!! I’m early in my loc journey (only a few years in) and I was really heartbroken when some of my loc inspos combed their locs out because I was like girl??? I thought we was in this together!!! It’s alright, (even tho I’m still a little hurt) because I’ve learned to just reflect on my own journey and feel valid in that alone. I’m just so grateful you said something because I was like dang, I joined the party kinda late, everybody’s already leaving!!
As for your thoughts on bad energy, I get it. I think for many people, locs are a very innate part of their spiritualism. Therefore, I’ve always interpreted the “cutting off bad energy” as a metaphysical act. If you’ve had locs for 5 or even 10+ years, there is “technically” hair attached to your body that is really old! It might remind people of a different time in their life or remind them of a different version of themselves that doesn’t reflect who they are now. Shedding is a natural part of human existence. Our hair sheds, our skin sheds, we even lose teeth! So to intentionally make the decision to loc your hair is to hold onto a part of yourself that might carry more than just physical weight. That’s why I’ve always felt like cutting a woman’s hair (especially a Black woman) without her consent is such an intense act of violence. Hair holds so much meaning for many of us. I can’t imagine someone cutting off my hair without my permission. In the same way, I could understand how when people feel like it’s time to cut that hair off, holding onto it might feel just as intense, or like a heavy burden. My best friend shaved her head bald a few years ago while she was going through a lot and she’s shared that she feels like the new hair on her head has grown with her as she’s grown as a person. Maybe that’s what folks are looking for? A fresh start? Just my thoughts (:

In certain cultures and belief systems (e.g. many traditional belief systems in Southern Africa where I’m from) hair is very spiritually respected and believed to hold energies. When our parents pass away we cut our hair or part of our hair off in respect to their journey ending and symbolizing the ending of their earthly journey. Same with traumatic events - you just have a deep feeling and desire to free yourself of the heaviness that is symbolized by the hair and the act of cutting it off. We also try to avoid too many people working on our hair for the same reason - trying to keep people who share good energy with you. it is hard to explain but can be deeply felt by people who practice or are very affected by what their hair holds. I hope that clarifies a bit? But this is all from a girl who hopes to keep her locs for a looong while ✨strength and light

My locs are almost 7 years old and are butt length. I have had every hairstyle known except a really short barber cut. I believe 100% that because hair grows from the scalp, is your DNA, and has cells, it's a spiritual thing. Locs or no locs, hair is a part of who we are, and our total make up. Some people cut theirs because they want change. Many people still remain natural and chemical free. The locs at butt length and longer can become difficult to manage and become more tasking than shorter hair. One last thing is that people don't respect locs anymore. You can buy fake ones online, including loc ponytails and wigs, and people even attach other people's locs to their hair, which I disagree with. Each person's journey is their own and from start to finish you have to love it for what it is and means to you. Change is a beautiful thing, especially as one reaches 40+.

But lately with the surge of faux and goddess locs a lot of people started asking me if this is my real hair??? Which at first was not as annoying bc I started my locs at a time when having a fake set wasn’t really the wave so the question was new to me. But overtime I found myself feeling the need to defend my journey bc people assume I just threw a set in for the look!!! I learned that I really really don’t like that! This question is like asking someone why they want to wear a pony tail or their hair out. I was locd 10 years. I had thought about cutting my hair for months.. after having pretty much the same look for my entire 20's, reaching my hair length goal (locs reached my butt) & dying my hair various colors.. i just felt like itd be cool to try something different. I kept saying "dang i wonder what itd be like to comb my hair..or have a short hair again"
But i was too scared to make a decision ..i HAD to have long hair.. til yesterday i was like man im doing this. Life is about experiences , trying things. A journey & knowing when to just pivot. I went all the way lol 10 years is a long commitment to a hairstyle. Now my hair is super short curly fro!!! 6 months i wouldve said id probably have my hair for life. But then LIFE happens and you just want a CHANGE.. keeping locs for life, means youre special lol. Im sorry but no. Ppl should do what they want..THAT makes them special.

As your locs mature you mature. Ecerything stays in your locs, Divorce, Death, Heartache, etc. Too much brews bad energy and must be cut off and started anew. Ase. I've been loced 8 years and have been through it.

Appreciate this video. I was just wondering why there are not more videos of people encouraging against the urge to cut their locs. I mean I get why people do. Sometimes I feel like my locs are another obligation I took on. The longer mine get the more maintenance I put in to keep them healthy, and they sometimes interfere with me sleeping ( even in bonnet). For me though my locs are a part of me and like all obligations in life I adapt. I commented on another CZcamsrs page about his reflection on cutting his locs. I said that I would feel the way Samson would feel if he was to cut his hair. All men and Women are Kings and Queens. I feel my locs are my crown. I'm not saying you need locs to feel like one by any means, but Lions have manes.

I combed my 4 year old locs out many years ago. My reason was the weight as they got longer and the tension on my hairline and I experienced soo much heartbreak, depression and pain while I had my locs and wanted to start fresh again with a new style.

I can understand wanting to try a different set. For example, someone with micros wanting a new set that’s thicker, or vice versa. I can see myself combing mine out years from now to start a different set for a new look and feel. Or if I had a smaller, nicer head shape, I’d probably put a fade on my bucket list to at least try lol. I do sometimes wonder why people do it when they have what I consider a beautiful, healthy set and havent even had them that long, but they alone have and understand the answer.

  • @shugga_sugarhunnie5002

I understand that cutting you locs is your business, but I also feel there are a lot of ppl jumping into the community to gain support and a following. There haven't been a lot of ppl willing to share their journey so those that do kinda become a "loc guru" by default. My only issue is when they give all this advice then contradict everything they made all this content about like do's and don't then boom here they go... We can't get attached to ppl and their "journeys". We also have to understand that there are different neighborhoods in the "loc community". I had a loc crush then found out she had insta-locs. Talk about crushed. The person I looked to when starting my journey cut hers and now wears braids. We can't compare our locs or journey's because we will never all 100% agree on what's ok and what's not. Glad you did this video because it does hurt to see ppl leave.

    • @Livingmycelestelife
      @Livingmycelestelife  Před 2 lety

Yesssss I completely understand and definitely agree with you!! It’s definitely easier said than done to not become attached to someone’s journey especially when all they post and talk about are Locs but again we have to remember that this is for us and the decision that we make needs to be own own and not because someone else is encouraging us to do it but again that’s easier said than done. Thank you so much for your comment!!

I cut mine off 4 times (probably due to stress and feeling out of control). It's been 4 years. I've gotten all of the cutting out of my system. I never had healthy hair this long without heat tools. I'm enjoying it. I have 51 locs. And the only time I will shorten them is if they get to heavy or cause headaches.

@@Livingmycelestelife thank you. yes I understand. My hair grows longer with locs. I also cut them off at that time because I wanted to see my hair in its natural fro state and throwing in some braids now and then. I’m telling my age with this one but I had a Gerri curl 😆early in life - I was permed very early then I went straight to locs. So I wanted to see what my hair could do. I’m very happy with this set of locs because I started them myself. The first set was started at a shop and I went faithfully every 3 to 4 weeks until I figured out how to do them myself.
