My favorite part about this is Geto's, "Kill me if you want there'd be a point in that too." He knows he's wrong, and wouldn't mind the prospect of dying, but in absence of that fate it really highlights that he's a broken man who feels he's ran out of options.
yeah. Part of Geto's entire story was that he was always the big bro figure and most reliable. When Gojo powercreeps him hard, Geto realizes he doesn't need to be the good guy anymore cuz Gojo can do everything. He totally could've convinced Gojo to join him imo but he didn't even try tempting him probably cuz he wants Gojo to stay as the good guy

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the English dub communicates Geto's madness better than the sub because Geto's deep voice in the dub makes the madness more deeply concerning to the viewer while Geto's slightly high-pitched soft voice emphasizes the more sympathetic aspect, which is nice and all but also like it gets fangirls who just miss The Point of Geto.
I mean just in general english has more nuance when it comes to expressing emotions on top of the fact that it's an international language so everyone understands it. The only praise I see for anime subs is when girls talk all cute and childish and if someone screams like crazy
That is actually true but for me, I got so used to hearing the Japanese VA for Geto (on top of the Takahiro's voice acting fitting Geto's image well), that the deep English VA just sounds...weird. But that might just be me.

@yeahright3901 Japanese dub in general have a much more consistent quality. While I do agree with the sentiment that most dubs are actually good contrary to popular belief, there are still some dubs that are genuinely horrible. (Modern examples like Ares in the Record of Raganrok dub)

I used to think Geto and Kenjaku was the same person because of how similar their goals are. To optimize curses energy. A world of only sorcerers. I thought Kenjaku was just a power up for Getos selfish plan.

Geto actually did so to protect himself (and his loved ones). To protect Gojo. And somewhat so that Gojo didn’t became him
Kenjaku on the other side, (from information I read) is a mad scientist who only cares about experiments and his obsessive goal. Kenjaku is evil while Geto is someone hurt badly his thinking got twisted. Nevertheless, Geto still think about his loved ones but is hopeless to find way back home
I know it's almost a year later, but Geto and Kenjaku's plans had very different prospects for humanity. Geto's plan was actually similar to Meruem from Hunter x Hunter, where he wanted to cull all the weak humans and produce strong humans for further cultivation. However, Geto wanted to cull the non-sorcerers in order to defend his own "family" as he puts it. He saw the atrocities that regular humans commit everyday and wanted to end it, so he could have a thriving world of jujutsu sorcerers that didn't need to hide in the shadows.
Kenjaku's plan is entirely selfish, and he's not concerned with the wellbeing of any humans, except perhaps Sukuna. He wants to create a world that amuses and entertains him by producing strong and brutal sorcerers, just like the Heian Era. "Optimizing cursed energy" is a means to an end for him, with the end being a world of violence and chaos where the strong rule by sheer virtue of power. He's so insane that he contemplated if the Merger creature from his plan would look like a clown or something stupid. On the surface level their plans might seem similar, but they diverge dramatically.

In theory, Geto‘s plan isn‘t selfish and not really bad. He wants to initially control the weak people, the non-sorcerers which is also discussed by Yuki. But they have little to no research about the whole curses thing, only basics. Most of it is a hidden treasure honestly.
It‘s the execution of the plan itself that fails - he thinks in extremes. „Either it‘s all love and family, and empathy - we protect them and humble ourselves as the stronger ones or we just kill them all because we are the stronger ones.“ there‘s no in between. Lots of other sorcerers like Nanami stated that they can‘t blame Geto becoming this way - the whole system, Jujutsu High, the concept of a school is completely crazy per se. It‘d exploitive and forces young kiddos becoming mature quickly. If you think about it - everyone in this „school system“ thinks and acts in such extreme ways. Shoko killing herself by overworking and taking drugs. Nanami choosing the least worst thing in his life among all the bad things - not following his dreams of a quiet life in Malaysia. Gojo not knowing what the purpose is, just fighting because of the sake for „winning“ - they‘re all kids stuck in an adult body lol. The whole anime/manga is very sad and dark honestly. It shows how exploitive systems can can and still „act“ like they never knew that one loses his mind that bad, like Geto killing his parents and wiping out a village. These things happen irl too, systems failing people, like school shooters, teens killing their own families, killing themselves, etc.

People out here defending Geto's actions as NOT MADNESS is actually CRAZY. We got two powerful scenes of him struggling to keep his sanity after suffering loses and tolerating the ugliness of humanity for last time, deeming them all monkeys; un-evolved and unintelligent. In the face of all that he knows makes sense in this world, Geto literally cannot take it anymore. He can't keep letting them get away with it. He cracks, and like a true madman he grafts his own ideals onto the irrational thoughts his sanity kept at bay, creating a worldview that is just as tainted as the taste of the curses he must consume to use his cursed technique. Geto's kindness before his turning point serves to become part of his madness as he views his eradication of non-jujutsu sorceres as a necessary kindness.
Geto IS a madman; both the dub and the sub convey this well but in different ways.

The dub is way better than i would have thought, I still prefer the sub and thats only because i find it more unsettling when a calm, sympathetic voice starts getting into a despicable tone that has nothing but disgust in it.
The dub makes geto look more of an intellectual villain rather than psychotic. If you know the story though you would understand why i think psychotic is more fitting

I generally prefer the sub over dubs, not because it's "bad quality" (i actually do like most of the female vas and i think gojo's va did a good job in capturing all the nuances and emotional outbursts, as seen here and in the latest shibuya eps) but what's really ticking me off is the pronunciations. Why are they copyrighting the english dub of this and leaving the Japanese version untouched? Is it the dubbing studio? Can't find any proper uncut videos of the dubbed version. They're killing interest in the show by taking down 1 minute clips. So stupid.

Whomever is copyrighting this is being genuinely smooth brained and should have their remaining 2 braincels reactivated and re-evaluate just how dumb it is to do this. It can't be some random leech doing this for money since they're being taken down fully across the platform. Geto parallels *alot* with Shinobu Sensui from Yu Yu Hakusho. Shinobu Sensui was the Spirit detective before Yusuke and had a very strict, black and white view of the world they lived in.
Humans = Good. Demons = Bad.
So when Shinobu Sensui's entire worldview was shattered because of what he saw, humans torturing and killing demons all for fun and self amusement. When Sensui saw this terrible act perpetuated by humans it broke him mentally and he killed all the humans there, (much like Geto did to that town) quit being dpirit detective (like Geto quit being a Jujutsu Sorcerer) and eventually plotted to unleash all of demon world onto the earth. (There's alot more nuance and deeping issues going on in the story but thats the overall jist)
Sensui also ends up having 7 different personalities as well which somewhat mirrors Getos body eventually housing 2 different personalities and brains (not exactly the same but similar situation) when Kenjaku eventually took Geto's body after he died.
Honestly I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gege created Suguru Geto while being inspired by Shinobu Sensui to some extent
