- The Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience concept truck is the latest in our fleet efficiency program. The one-of-a-kind prototype offers a whole package of firsts. The tractor has very advanced aerodynamics and is powered by a prototype advanced turbine-powered, range-extending series hybrid powertrain. The trailer is made almost exclusively with carbon fiber, saving around 4,000 pounds which can then be used to carry more freight.
So Walmart can afford to do this but they can afford to better pay their employees.. hmm interesting
I agree with you on walmart not paying employees enough
Huh? Read that again! You must be one of those walmart employees.....
*Walmart's New Concept Trailers*
This is pretty awesome. Quite a radical change from the standard trucks of today!
This is all very well, but are Walmart going to pay their drivers more for using this technology?
Michael Tucker no, they will get a pay decrease. Walmart will use the excuse that the driver has to do less because of all the technology.
I remember back in high school we where challenged with designing a new bus. This truck somewhat looks like our design haha very cool!
Looks awesome! Futuristic.
Wow, this concept truck is brilliant ! Let's get this in production... like yesterday, already. It blows me away thinking about how a typical old school diesel truck, which they all are, put's 100,000 miles a year. Every decade is a million miles and how many are still on the road from the late 1970's and 80's. Still putting away being constantly rebuilt. If this truck is efficient, they'll buy it at a premium and get the return quickly in saving per mile.
Pretty awesome can't wait to see these going down the road!
VERY EXCITING and it is about time to upgrade the trucking industry. I drove tractor trailers back in the late 1970s and really have not seen a lot of improvements since,,, until now that is... What can I say but WOW! COOL to the max!
Most impressive, very cool design!
That is the coolest truck. Thanks for sharing the video.
That full sized sleeper will really help. Making overnight trips in a truck must be a total pain. Maybe in the future they'll all drive themselves too.
That is awesome! Cannot wait to start driving again!
A turbine? Very revolutionary concept. Nice
So futuristic looking!
Woohoo, Peterbilt yeah! Good to see an American truck maker innovate ahead!
I saw something like this on the Discovery Channel maybe 10 or more years ago. The nose was sharper looking and it had a drive by wire joy stick that controled the movement. If I remember the guy who designed it said he improved the semis effciency by 50%.
Just imagine one of these drive by me one day! Looking forward to the future!
Interesting concept with the trailer but not practical on a large scale just yet. Soon though
I think they have the money to fund it, though.
How is it not practical, they have the money to do it. As long as it drives...
Nice idea and design!
Wow this is a sleek new look for trucks. Surely other companies will adapt to this.
Pretty darn impressive!
Such an advanced car, I like it!
This is a genius idea and sweet looking rig
This is so cool! I'm really excited this is actually happening. : )
This is actually a really interesting concept
Really carbon fiber trailer, thats going to be a blast in heavy wind.
I can't wait to drive one of those trucks!!!
It actually looks Kool!
Wow looks impressive Walmart. I am shocked you didn't cheapen out the whole thing which you tend to do. Good job on this, many truckers will like it.
Awesome design. Saw something very similar to this about 15 years ago in the design stages (though it wasn't battery-powered or carbon-fibre, it shared a very similar cab design). Hopefully some day---sooner rather than later---we'll be cursing these hogging the roads just as much as we do conventional diesel rigs! ;-)
About time! Trucks have been stuck in the stone age for decades... minor improvements, but still a solid block ramming through the air at 55 MPH and roughly 6 MPG. With over a quarter of our country's transportation fuel burned on freight transport, this is something that just needs to happen, sooner rather than later. It'd be nice if the style could be made a little more traditional in order to appease the trucker culture and make it catch on easier, but heck... any improvement is great, as long as the thing can either plug in or dramatically improve mileage!
Let's see how that handles a winter like this. Give me one in Marcy NY to test!!!
I'm very glad for this idea
Finally an upgrade to riding in those motorized carts while I'm shopping. I can never fit everything I need in those.
Pretty cool looking.
That is hella dope!
Incredible vehicle!
Always wondered when the real breakthroughs in 18-wheeler improvement would start happening.
Took a giant like walmart to pull it off.
Wow, very cool. Glad I bought Capstone stock!
Watching this truck concept made me want to get into trucking...
Only if I'd drive that.
this thing looks dope.
Impressive design. I wish cab-over-engine trucks were more popular in the US...
Brilliant design.
Very very cool. I know its not the best looking truck but as a 26 year old cdl holder I think it can make the job better.
Design making a beautiful difference.
Its nice to see walmart do this
This is pretty neat
That would nice to see!
Simply spectacular.....
Just amazing
Looks Kool
As a truck driver, I'm kinda curious to know how far that thing will take you even fully loaded, cross-country, and up/down mountains. Also..what about the shifter? Is it even manual anymore? And what about the charging aspects of it since it's all electric? Where on earth are you going to find places along the highway with outlets that will allow you to charge up?
This will probably take good 20 years before I actually start to see them out here lol.
That's a sweet truck
That's pretty cool.
I like the customizable dash but I worry that the center cockpit will cause problems with visibility for situations such as making left turns and passing on a single lane highway.
Thats pretty cool
This is a really interesting design. The problem with it is that the front would basically need to be completely flat if it wants to compete in the European marked due to regulations.
wow that an neat looking walmart truck that future looking
I wanna drive this beast!
That's crazy !
Holy hell this is the future!
This is really nice looking. I'm glad people realized it cost as much to make a beautiful car as it does an ugly one
cool truck, need more Van Damme split but cool truck
Looks like a airplane cockpit. I would love to drive this thing for a living.
Two observations I made as a truck driver. If your wife/child wants to ride with you for a week where do they sit? Also that bed appears to be too small.
Change the trailer panels to 10' replaceable sections in case of collision/damage and ill buy the truck and trailer right now
No problems with conversions for left hand/right hand steering markets, or crossing from Britain to the Continent and back.
So how long have they been testing this truck and it is potentially as durable as the standard semi tractor trailer? I know they want to save on fuel but you also need to make sure this can withstand the heavy wear and tear over time.
Yes please!
Between this and the Supercube Walmart truck in Canada, at least someone in the transportation industry is thinking outside the "box". Keep it up Walmart.
not gonna lie the look of that truck is making me think of terminator for some reason and now im freaked out that trucks will take over the world its like reverse transformers
I'm glad Walmart spends their money on this.
Pretty neat
Bottom line.... This thing is COOL
Cool!
Very cool
Cool. O:53 looks a bit like Magneto's helm
every truckers dream come true
Amazing
I'd drive it. Only changes I'd make would be to incorporate a center screen for engine and drive train monitoring functions ( No idiot lights ) . That would free up the side screens for cameras for blind spot prevention.
This awesome
I want one just to drive it around it looks nice
I'm so sick and tired of all this Walmart bashing (like Nicholas a few comments down). I for one think they are great. I get whatever I want at a good price, lots of selection, great return policy and decent store hours. I don't have time to jump from store to store and they basically end up saving me time because they carry whatever I need in one place.
For all the people complaining about what they pay their employee - well its in line with the industry for the position at hand so nobody is getting ripped off. If someone wants more $$, maybe they should take some courses and move up in their position.
So thank you Walmart and I hope you do more of the same. Its working for me.
Finally, something Walmart has done that I can respect.
SO AMAZE
Man, WalMart be getting hi-tech now. Vedy niiiice
*lays down* FUTURE!
Thats... Interesting
That's cool.
very cool
I wish all cars would be made like this
Wow....Get that baby on the road soon!
I wanna drive it!!
how is there no comments? this is pretty great.
So, when is this concept coming to the UK? And how do I get to drive one?
time to go on a walmart truck heist
The highway pirates will be happy when they get their hands on that technology. If truckers get stolen often enough, imagine how long this baby will last.
If it brings more .22LR ammo to stores I'm with it it !
That is really true what u said said Nicholas
So Walmart is a profitable company due to fair prices and are adding value both to workers, owners, investors and customers. They are now even able to create new trucks that are better for the driver and more energy efficient vehicles which both increases profits, makes less environmental damage and in turn makes it possible for them to employ even more workers. With over 2.2 million employees, this company is amazing! If you think the Walmart employees are payed to little, feel free to give them a tip the next time you are making a purchase!
How can you pay for tolls, get change or receipt if your sitting in the middle? Not sure how you could back into tight spots without looking backwards, out of left window either. Even if you make the truck 10,000 pounds lighter, the shipper is just going to add 10,000 pounds of extra freight.
I know this is just for show but hopefully some of the better ideas and tech will trickle out into mainstream soon enough.
