    Absolutely insane! However in hindsight it all adds up. I pay $1600 for an apartment in "relatively" LCOL just east of GTA but then I need to shell out $700 for a car payment + insurance.

    • @AvaBrar
      @AvaBrar  Před měsícem

      Exactly! There's pros & cons to both, but it's finding a balance that works for you. Do find yourself spending a lot of time on commuting? Getting in and out of the downtown core is horrible lol

      @@AvaBrar Absolutely! Fortunately I work remotely but I go to Montreal every two weeks and driving to Billy Bishop at 7AM on 401 is a chore. Believe it or not but I only had misfortune of driving through the downtown core a couple of times after I moved to GTA and I absolutely hated it.

      @@LearnGrowThrive To be honest - a bit. Quite a few analyst come in, work a few years, get it on their resume and then switch out to something 'more meaningful'. Everyone's always trying to find the perfect work life balance!

    Thanks for sharing this. Are these canadian dollars or usd? Either way 2500 is a steal for housing in toronto. If you earn 180,000usd a year as per usual for an investment banker you are saving a ton of money.

      2500 in CAD - so glad I got it at the right time! I don't have a very big place, but being a 10 min commute from the office is a huge win for me. Thank you so much for watching! I'll def make a video covering my total pay minus expenses and what I'm left with to help people considering IB :)

    Hi, great information.
    Can you please guide me i have no finance background( no degree in finance). However, I am doing stock market including derivatives and good knowledge of it from last 6 years.
    I have done my licensing in CSC (Canadian securities Course).
    Is there any scope of getting job in financial sector after getting CSC.
    Thank you 🙏🏿

    • @AvaBrar
      @AvaBrar  Před měsícem

      Hi Yamini!! Having your CSC done is great - this is the most important license to have if you want to work on the trading floor - so really emphasize this on your resume! I also have my CSC done - had to get it completed prior to working on the trading floor as this is mandatory! So really great you have that done!
      This is how I'd format the resume:
      Under Education - highlight the CSC as the first thing, and list the key things you've learnt and understand from it (i.e. derivatives, bonds, stocks, etc.) [can also mention you're interested or pursuing the CFA to show you're committed into finance]
      Under Experience/ECs - discuss your trading/stock market experience (list your returns if they're worth mentioning) In Investment Banking & Sales & Trading Interviews, you get tested on your market and stock knowledge - so if you're able to highlight this on your resume, it will help you!
      Tbh - you don't need a finance background to get into finance (i knew someone with a history degree on the trading floor), but as long as you show you're interested in finance and willing to learn then it's doable! It's all about how you sell it - and your Network will help you get in the door! Reach out to Alumni from your school in finance through LinkedIn and figure out how they got in!
      You're experiences are there and valuable! Now it's all about selling it :) Happy to help however I can - let me know!
