- Tommy Aldridge, behind the scenes footage shot by Jeff Brockman. Archive camera footage from actual '80s studio recording session. Shot with Sony M3 three tube camera on 3/4" video tape.
Great studio footage of Tommy!
Definitely Vinny Moore's Lp Minds Eye. Song - In Control 1986. To see Shrapnel Record footage this old is amazing.. 🥁🥁🥁 Tommy is ageless and timeless on the drums a true powerhouse! 🥁🥁🥁
Thanks! Damn! I love that album and that song in particular, I had not idea Aldridge was on it!
That double bass is so smooth and on time. Such a legend.
"What Tommy was doing in the 70's with Black Oak nobody was doing quite the same with 2 Bass Drums"
FACTS!!! just watch some old videos from 73 you can tell the whole Van Halen band had been influenced by BOA i can Alex probably learned some shit from Aldridge for sure
Riding it out so smoothly
And solid and groovy too😎🤘
His consistency in bass drums are incredible!
He laid down a physically demanding drum track that must have been the equivalent of running a 10k race like it was nothing. He is so fundamentally sound and smooth in his technique. Tommy is a legend.
he is among the best in the world !!!
most people would fall off the throne in the first 45 seconds looking for oxygen, and to just lay that track down without any, any flaws is just unbelievable. those doubles on the toms late in the song are just butter, so smooth.
OMG I’m getting tired just watching this!
For me, Tommy will always be the ULTIMATE ROCK DRUMMER.
Its the hair ;-D
I guess you never heard of Portnoy lol
Bonham
Ian Paice
Wevstill have the brothers Appice , but Aldrighe its much better
Perfect example of why being in great shape is a key component to drumming.
For 130 years old., he's actually in great shape.
Not really. ✌️
Gene Hoglan
That sixteenth note triplet fill he at 3:24 is amazing.
This song is the opening track on the Vinnie Moore album!
solo on hero without honor.
And what an album that is!
Yeah, "Mind's eye" is one of the greatest guitar oriented albums ever.
THANK YOU RONNY !!! I LOVE VINNIE MOORE. SOLO & WITH UFO. I AM JUST NOW GETTING BACK INTO. DRUMMING & STUDIO. JESUS & I WHOOPED 20 YEARS OF CLINIC DEPRESSION. HE MADE ME A NEW THING
I HOPE TO BE INVOLVED IN SOME CAPACITY WITH " DRUMMERS FOR JESUS" SOON. AMEN
Thanks Brother!
First saw in 1973 with Black Oak Arkansas. I was blown away. I have followed him through all of the bands he has played with from Pat Travers, Ozzy, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake. I've seen him in concert many, many times and he still just blows me away. He is definitely my biggest influence in my style of drumming!
he has his ass almost down on the floor and his knees to his chest, of which is the favoured position of other drumming icons such as lars ulrich.
my favourite drummers are aldridge, ulrich, tommy lee, and paul cook from the iconic band the sex pistols !
My first drum clinic was Tommy around 88/90
The clinic started before I got in the room. I stood in the doorway and had that view. Didn’t know Tommy yet, he was rockin’ with his hands. Fun day for a young kid
A brilliant rock drummer, one of the Worlds greatest!
Tommy Randy Ozzy and Rudy what a band
Enjoyed that session. One of the best in the business! Doesn't get enough notoriety.
Been playing all my life, love Tommy.. had the good fortune of sitting at a blackjack table with him in south lake tahoe about 20ish years ago.. super cool cat he is. sat next to him for about 2 hours, shared a few hands and a few beers.. cool dude.
How cool. Once in a lifetime experience. He really seems like a solid guy.
Did he regale you with tales of vomit and diarrhea of rock stars?
got to see him in the seventies with Black Oak, sat behind the stage, he was tossing sticks during the songs and I ended up with one. How anyone could play with that touch with those huge sticks. And I think he invented that "Jim Dandy" beat with the bass drums rockin like they do on that song.
Interesting how Tommy is super focused in the studio. Playing live you can get away with not playing your parts perfect, but in the studio ya gotta nail it.
Ahh, cmon guys. He may not be your thing but tommy stood out head and shoulders above most of the rest of the field. One of the truly world class elite drummers of his era.
What Tommy was doing in the 70's with Black Oak nobody was doing quite the same with 2 Bass Drums and he's still going strong.. Rock On Tommy
Neil Peart has said the same!
Unpopular opinion, but I've never been that crazy about Tommy Lee's playing. Lee, to me, is just too much flash and bombast. Aldridge is a flashy player, but there are very, very solid chops under all that flash.
Why tommy is not so famous tho??
He deserves a lot..
We always see more about slayer, slipnot drummers..this is not fair..
He has very different vibe.
Danny shwarmas are delicious
You clearly know jothing about drummers then!
Saw him with Whitesnake in December... the guy was a machine!
Yes, a machine. A machine without any heart, soul and emotion.
Aahh, did he hurt your feelings at one time or another because your were stalking him.
Saw him with Whitesnake on the '87 tour. What an amazing lineup! David, Vivian Campbell, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and, of course, Tommy!
I just shake my head every time I’ve ever seen him play. That goes as far back as Black Oak Arkansas and Pat Travers. The reason, I know the musicians in front of him know they have a lockdown confident percussionist they can depend on. The man’s a perfect human metronome. Watch him with John Sykes (both Touring as Thin Lizzy) in Helsinki performing, Are You Ready? It’s insane. 🤘
His legs are robotic i never neard such a consistent double bass non stop. And those of you complaining about the drum soound must not hav experience in the studio....you are hearing the drum sound in the room being picked up by the camera or maybe a room mic....you are not hearing the drum sound that is on tape..so you cant say things like his drums are tuned shitty....cause you have no idea whqt they really sound like on playback.
Before mastering always sounds raw. Mastering is magic.
Very good very enjoyable for drummers
emilshere
well put.
Him and Alex Van Halen had some of the best meter, endurance, and consistency with double bassing.
Homes listen to David diepold
Awesome. One of my biggest influences. Thanks Tommy.
The problem with music today is, you just cant find those striped shorts anymore.
@The Violeta Metal Revue long hairs are still a thing
@The Violeta Metal Revue if you say so lol come to Massachusetts and its like the 80s never ended
@The Violeta Metal Revue oh man i used to date a massart chick, i get what you mean. Im more the worcester area, been here my whole life, and can tell you that there's still a strong influx of the long hairs holding down ground haha i guess you're right though it's not what it once was, but man trust me we're still alive and thriving; i work with a shit ton of em working in the weed industry haha
@@moejartin3258 I'm in CT. I know what you mean. I never did cut my hair but I had to stop hanging out at rock clubs. It just got to be too sad watching tribute bands wearing wigs :)
You can get close, Patagonia Baggies are as 80s style as you can get in modern days.
GOAT... Loved him when he played for Ozzy and Pat Travers
That MTV concert in 82 83 with Brad gillis on guitar replacing Randy rhoads that live show I still can't get over how Tommy's playing was so epic-👊
An elite class drummer & drops some
serious luggage (Samsonite!)💪🌟💖
First live drummer I ever saw. Hughes Thrall Band at The Country Club in '81 or '82
LOVE THIS. TOMMY HAS BEEN ROCK SOLID IN DRUMMING, DRUM & BAND CHEMISTRY WISDOM. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I REALLY ADMIRE MOST ABOUT HIM. IS HIS " PROFESSIONALISM & LOYALTY". RARE THEN & NOW
Tx for share this images. What a greate and smart drummer.
I'm this way because I love it. When it becomes work, I'll quit.
-Tommy Aldridge
KING OF DRUMMERS ❤🥁🔥
Yep, I remember shooting this, it was a great session!
Tommy has been my favorite drummer for years. The first time I heard him play was with Black Oak Arkansas. His drum solo just blew me away. I have a live recording of Black Oak that I pull out and listen to still. Have videos of him with whitesnake and Ozzy. Tommy fan for life!!
I shot that video, so I was standing right there when he did that, amazing!
Man you are so lucky to have been that close to him. I know he blew your mind.!
@@allenhunt1330 here’s The isolated drums for you! czcams.com/video/sAmoXXQvgCA/video.htmlsi=EKq8wdlKyurPNtBp
Got to see him way back in the 70's with Black Oak Arkansas, I had a drum stick, huge, size 3S he threw in to the crowd. To swing that size stick with that precision is just incredible. Such a powerhouse drummer. Just attacks the hell out of a drum kit. He is an inspiration to a whole generation of Rock drummers. Wanna play double bass? Here is the master.
What an amazing style!!
Now there's a drummer. Tommy is truly a man of the drum kit. HIs legendary hand solos are just primal. Drum trance achieved!
One of my favorite drum solos of all time is Tommy Aldridge on the song up on raunch and roll live Black Oak Arkansas
Absolutely! Tommy and BOA for that matter have always flown under the mainstream radar, but NOT to those of us in the know!
Tommy is an absolutely phenomenal drummer. He also has the physique of an arrow with the wood scraped off.
if i could play like that i would not need to lose any weight, when gets going he is like a freakin' Ninja warrior destroying a drum kit for about six minutes. His stamina is just unbelievable. I can play some tough songs but I mean he just hits every lick all out, every snare crash, every rim shot (which is damn hard to do) on the backbeats, and just kills the cymbals.
Makes it look easy. Solid rock drummer that has played with the greats
Man U wanna talk about consistency! Aldridge is amazing! That double bass gives me chill bumps! Nice lil clip for the drummers right there! Thanks for the post
ya man, double kick from heaven, dagdagdagdagdagdagdagdagdaga
An absolute beast. Such precision.
Pretty awesome to have this footage. Back then you didn't have video cameras in the studio usually. Pretty rare. What a shame. Make me want to do more video with my band in the studio. I always forget to do it!
Yes, so true, but I had a camera and that’s how I got the footage and a lot more like it!
@@VirtualLiveShow awesome!!!!
Dude ain't no joke! Probably one of the best in the business.
A perfect example in my opinion, why drumming is like a sport. He murdered that kit.
He's still going strong!!! This year (2020) he is turning 70 and sure he'll keep touring and rocking like no other drummer his age!! He's the ultimate rock drummer! 🥁💯🤘🏼
Great footage , we are lucky to get to see it. I would like to have heard the actual recording of it , but Thank you for letting us enjoy it ! ~ ~ Peace
Tommy looks the same here as he did on 1974 with Black Oak Arkansas .
Should have gone to an Optician.
Aldrich is murdering the bearings in those bass pedals! Too much good stuff!
Smooth and very consistent.
Yes it is definitely Vinnie Moore's "In control" from the album Mind's Eye. Amazing footage.
"In Control" from the album "Mind's Eye". This album is a masterpiece! It's really nice to see this recording session.
For those who don't know the song, here's the full version:

Tommy Aldridge, one of the greatest rock drummers ever! His curriculum vitae is impressive: Ozzy Osbourne, WhiteSnake, Vinnie Moore, BOA, and the list goes on and on, and on ....
Tommy!!! You Sir, are the King of Drummers!
This is kick ass,awesome!
Adjusts headphones at 1:17 LOL BRILLIANT! literally doesnt miss a beat! skill, passion, total pro package. LOVE this drummer :)
Oustanding drummer... I love his work on Vinnie Moore's Mind's Eye and also on Patrick Rondat's great instrumental albums "Amphibia" and "Over The Edge".
Great drummer i always go Aldridge videos to steal tricks and techniques. Solid double bass Drummer.
Absolutely..Rawk!On Tommy Aldridge
And at the end, he ups and walks away casualy with a grin on his face like he just finished breakfast, not a solid 4 minute whole body work out.
The man is not human.
Remember watching him in the Speak of the devil video making a drum solo with no stick, that was mind-blowing.
Solid as a rock!! Just an absolute machine.
I love his inflection on the kit.
ALL his stuff is Bad ASS👍. A Rock Drumming Legend!!
Cymbal stops ...the lost art. So good
Love his style
+1 For me, Tommy will always be the ULTIMATE ROCK DRUMMER.
one of THE best in the biz!
Been following his career from the Black Oak Arkansas days and will see him in Biloxi Mississippi on the 19th of this month with Whitesnake. Can't wait. I'm 65 years old and I feel like a kid going to the beach for vacation
Was Tommy actually born a middle aged man?
Dav Dave
HAHAHA thats fantastic! ive always felt the same way.
I always thought he looked like a stern grandma in those 80s Whitesnake photos. Lmao
I believe so!! Hell, he looks exactly the same now as he did then! He looked old AF back then! 😂😂. Long live tomcat!!! One of my all time favorites!!!
I shouldn't laugh, but yer.
I think his age just caught up to his looks ..he hasn't changed in decades.. always looks the same
Grazie mille per aver postato questo video!!!! Stay rockkkk!!
Double bass is so on time it sounds like a drum machine
Excellent beautiful amazing sublime, el maestro Tommy Aldridge.. Double bass father.
Very consistent, very tight!
Tommy!!! Played w all the greats!
I learned to shoot on a Sony M3 with the umbilical to a 3/4" deck & a 635 mic for audio. I didn't shoot anything as cool as Tommy Aldridge that's for sure. The Master!!
Because it all in his headphones! You just hearing the bass and drum tracks with rhythm guitar .
Rudimental perfection!🤘
Rudimental? I guess for single strokes.... lol
Один из величайших роковых барабанщиков.А дизлайки походу ставят «диванные» драмеры ......
Drums “......is that Tommy walking over here?”
Cymbals “...... yep, that’s him.....”
Drums “ .....here we go,remember we all get hit, grabbed and hypnotized with this guy....”
Cymbals “ maybe this is a slow song.......oh no it’s notttttttttttttttttt.....” 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅🎶😎
I’m still here and this is as raw as you’ll ever hear it. He’s going so fast, he drops a stick, don’t miss it😮😮😊❤❤
Damnit here he comes and we still owe him money.😲
Still the most solid double kick in the game! Just effortless! The guy doesn’t age
How do you feel about scott travis double bass? The man put the pain in painkillet
Grossguth Richard Scott Travis is amazing, saw him with priest 3 times now and not only a great drummer, a great performer!
@@citytonightproductions when did you see priest? 2004, 2012, 2014 for me
@Fist Bump ha ha! True enough! he kicks the shit out of his drums like a teenager!
R J Herrera
Love those oak shell drums!
The best drummer Ozzy ever had.
Lee Kerslake is #1 for me. Tommy is a great live drummer but I don't think the studio is where he belongs. Super cool guy and a hero to me and many others. Strong man. After what he saw when Randy died I don't know how he pulled himself up and kept going. That whole Diary band was some tough MF'ers.
randy Castillo is number one for me
Lee Kerslake
sharon taught him how to play
They're all good, talking about the most revered, the "holy trinity" with Kerslake, Aldridge and Castillo...
Aldridge probably gets my vote too, just personal preference, since he was in my absolute favorite Ozzy's line-up, the one from Bark At The Moon, with master Jake E Lee, Bob Daisley and Don Airey...
Vinnie Moore's first LP. Only LP Tommy recorded with Vinnie Moore great LP.
Tommy and Vinnie appice the two greatest rock metal drummers.
When Dannny Carey lists you as basically h #1 influence, especially in respects to double foot pedal work, you know your rock/metal royalty. 🤟😎👍🖤
@2:52 💪 Listening to him then I never imagined I'd see this footage... Better late than never
That's some crazy consistent double bass.. 🤘😝
This guy is a machine. What a freaking robot.
Tommy is one hell of a Rock Drummer! He kicks "Ass"!!!!!
the master of the double bass drum
And this is the 10th take on the song, he’s a Marathon drummer. Wow!!!
So cool.
Excelente baterista y de grandes grupos musicales.
What a player!
Just to clear shit up for you younger guys, Tommy Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo did not play on "Diary " or " Blizzard " they toured on them after Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisly were shit canned over a royalties dispute. Daisly (bass) wrote all the lyrics and Randy all the music with some help with melodies from Ozzy ( whenever he wasn't loaded ). In 2001-02 the re-mastered " Diary " had Kerslake's and Daisly's parts removed and replaced by Mike Bordin (Faith No More) and Robert Trujillo (bass) due to a lawsuit over royalties again. Unless you have the original vinyl from '81-82 and re-issues up to 2000 chances are you've never heard those 2 masterpieces the way they were done in studio at the time. Still pisses me off that I now only have the original "Blizzard" but my "Diary" is tampered with. I know this to be true seing as I was in direct contact with Daisly until 2004 via e.mail on the subject of a class action lawsuit on the matter because fans felt they had been fucked over and forced to open the CD packaging (non-refundable once opened) to find out on the inside sleeve that the original musicians weren't included. To this day the class action lawsuit is still pending and I'm still wanting my refund, better yet an original copy of "Diary". Thanks Sharon, you cunt !
Tommy the best of all times
That sounds like he was recording Vinnie Moores Minds Eye album! Sweet!
Don Stevens Yeah right! It’s the opening track ‘In Control’
Wow... very solid🔥
my friend an i sat an played behind it what a memory after words
Tommy great feet, well developed since the early eighties! Listen to his feet on Ozzy Speak of the Devil album, back there droppin bombs and rippin up those Sabbath tunes
beautiful cymbals
Tommy Aldridge = Drum God of drum gods.
New right away that's from one of my top 3 guitar albums. Vinnie Moore's Minds eye !!!
Das macht einfach nur Spaß.
