I appreciate this video. I am working on getting my name out there up here in the northwest. I do have tons of experience on the water and lots of fishing experience. However a divorce took my boat so I'm a few months away from having another one. This is very good advice. I agree completely. Especially have a back up. I'm a commercial truck driver so I know if anything ever fell through I could have a job the next day.

I'm thinking about it because a friend suggested I should. Everytime I go out I catch at least a few. Even when some of the pros aren't catching any.

Thanks for this dudes, Im in the ground stage of getting this thing going, got a decent 17’ refurbished boat that I put alot of work into, and a huge desire to leave the factory BS. Just moved to the Stevens Point area from southern Wisconsin where I was trapped by shitty fishing area (even though I made the best of it) so Im ready to put my heart and soul into this baby so I can leave machining and working for the man in the dust. Thanks for the wise words.

Lots of good sense here - plan, work hard, be ready to make sacrifices, don't bs the clients. Perhaps some people are called to the ministry and some are called to be guides...

It's a lot like owning a bait shop. First thing I noticed was the better the fishing the more likely I couldn't take time to fish. Talk to a guide and then if you still are so bull headed that you want to try it do so but have a back-up plan.

Great video. I am think of starting an offshore charter business here in Texas at South Padre Island. The The CHG and RCG permits to do so are fairly expensive. Apparently they stopped issuing them in 2003. As a result, few vessels have these permits here. Do you think it is a good investment in terms of being able to offer offshore charters? Seems like I would have a lot less competion. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

What if you didn’t have another job would you still have decent pay throughout the year? And what if you didn’t have the other job, is health insurance an issue for guides?

Don't you need a captain license to be a guide on a boat?
