- Why do you need an oil catch can? In this video I go over installing a vehicle specific oil catch can in line of the positive crankcase ventilation system (PCV) install in my 2006 Nissan 350Z. This is one of the more important support mods to me because I believe it helps keep the intake manifold clean and give you a better air and fuel mixture.

These videos are super simple and simple much appreciated
jaysab24 Glad they're helping you :)
I've ordered this catch can after seeing your video like a month ago and finally it got shipped today, I've ordered it with all the accessories. Can't wait to get my hands on it and install it myself!
Btw thanks for the videos, I find them very useful!
It took them this long because they were out of stock and they had to fabricate some new ones!
Glad they help you! Yes this is an awesome product! Make sure to share any content you like, it helps a lot!
+AnthonyJ350 will do!
Update?
Where you guys buy it?
Another issues some cars have is under high G forces in a corner the oil can slosh to the side and be more susceptible to being sucked into the PCV system and burning the oil there. 300ZX's are well known for this, my 300ZX did it pretty bad as well. Great video by the way!
I can definitely see that being an issue if you let it get too full. I would just drain it before any spirited driving session and on a baffled version like this, you really shouldn't have any issues.
I don't think you understood what he was saying, he isn't talking about the catch can but the engine itself. During hard corners, the pcv system sucks up oil that get's pulled to one side of the engine so it sucks more oil up into the can. Which I can say is pretty spot on, mine does that a good bit.
Hey man, this was a great video. I think I'm going to get one because I'm going to replace the valve covers on my G and since I'll have it all apart, I think I'll add this to it while I'm at it. Nice video
Thanks for watching, this support mod is definitely worth it.
Did you get one ?
@@g35tho11
I did, yes! It definitely works as advertised. I went with the ADDW1 Oil Catch Can. Just be advised if you're in California, this will not pass on smog hooked up. You'll have to disconnect it and put the hose lines back the way they were and remove the catch can before testing.
I know you did not show it, but the strut bar is under load, if you don't back out the strut tower nut on top, you will strip the threads on the strut tower bolts. Lol ask me how I know.
You also beat me to this install. My catch can is coming this week.
The drivers side usually can get oil under WOT per the fsm. So a good thing to do is to check the inside of the Z tube and throttle body for oil.
You can run 2 cans, one on each side and keep the system closed, or run 1 can with both venting to atmosphere, but you need to close the inlet on the intake as well as drill out the PCV valve on the drivers side, otherwise the engine will stall.
Na Zs usually don't need both sides, the main issue is always with the drivers side as you point out.
+Z33 Garage I watch your installs man. You should have way more subscribers by the quality of your videos, anyways will you be installing a catch can like this or like the one you mentioned that has a breather?
+josh boss thanks man! the catch can I will be installing will be for a single bank, no breather. Just like in this video, except I will also install a smaller can on the drivers side, for the hell of it since it's sitting in my toolbox.
Ya from what I've researched that vent leading to the intake tube only comes into play at WOT like you mention, so it's not as big of an issue as the other side. Plus I'm not sure how many people are going to be into plumbing that much more work.
I just did the passenger side, and it makes a hellluva difference. about an ounce in 1 month a few hundred miles.
Sorry, I don't have time for the full video right now, but from the few minutes I've seen, I want to say, that I agree only needing the oil catch can to work on the PCV side. The other side of the engine is meant to draw air while the PCV vents for both sides of a V engine. I've seen lots of diagrams that match my comment, and unless engineers simply are wrong about the physics, you're doing what makes sense for the design.
DE Nichols Ya we didn't want to alter what the engineers had already set up. I really don't like it when people attach both sides to one can with a vent.
AnthonyJ350 Exactly. I know it would interrupt with the correct flow through the system. At worst it'd make the catch can ineffective and at best hooking up to both sides would make the system less effective.
The side without the PCV is meant to bring fresh air in. When the engine has higher pressure, then the PCV lets gases and a little oil escape.
The pressure is always going up and down. A catch can is supposed to just catch unwanted oil on the way back to the intake when the pressure is high. If it's hooked up to both ends it's mixing the intake and "exhaust" if you will.
Thanks for the information. But don't you think that if the side with no PCV lets air in, wouldn't it make sense to put a breather filter on that side only? (since there is no pcv and its purpose is to simply let air in). I totally agree with you on the PCV side. The oil catch can is needed there.
Let me know your thoughts. Following this factory system, it seems that most oil catch can kits for the VQ are not designed correctly then. If someone could clarify on why pcv is on one side and not the other would be great. Thanks guys.
I like your z super clean
Inkids Yo Thank you!
If you put your rubber hose in hot water it will make it easier to slide fittings in.
Thanks for the tip!
Did you order the OCC (350z VQ35DE) for your specific Z? I dont see an option for just a basic model 350z. (2006) Also, is the one you got a drop-in system where everything comes provided? Or will i have to order the hoses, clamps, ect ect. along w/ it? Thanks anthony! Again, you have helped me through the process of upgrading components in my 350z.👍
Mike Bonez If you check out Saikou Michi you can order the can specific for the 350Z and everything is provided. There's also options you can add.
Thank you for the info!!
Glad you liked it!
I ran the same catch can for a long time but recently switched to a custom vented one for my boosted setup. I miss how well the SM catch can blended in with everything under the hood.
justanls Curious why you went vented? This guy did a good video showing the sealed still works really well czcams.com/video/HUQnx40ddX8/video.html
another great vid Anthony. Can you do a video showing how to do a Big 3 Upgrade? I have couple of amps powering all my speakers and this is next step I would like to take to make sure sound system properly. Thanks in advance.
chiknhawk90701 I did this video years ago czcams.com/video/ASMwuofj9H4/video.html
chiknhawk90701 And this is what I did to my car czcams.com/video/mkWCqSfr6ig/video.html
Sorry, you are wrong with your definition of a PVC system. It is there to relieve pressure in the crankcase from piston movement, not the cylinders. It is supposed to simply open for Positive pressure and close for negative pressure, a 1 way valve either spring or gravity held. Usually gravity held in the closed position. In practice, very little oil should pass through but the Infinity G35 has a relatively poor design to vent gasses. It is also a closed design where as years ago it was simply allowed to spill out on the road through a drop tube vacuum induced by forward car movement..This should have been addressed by design engineers and mandated by the EPA for emission standards but I guess the combustion chambers and catalytic converters burn it and convert it.
Thanks for your feedback!
You might find this video interesting czcams.com/video/HUQnx40ddX8/video.html
I installed a Mishimoto catch can between the PCV valve and intake. Drove the car around for about an hour and every time I came to a stop and idled huge clouds of white oil smoke billowed from the exhaust. Got home and drained 8 oz of oil from the can. Switched to an open system with a K&N filter on top of the can and no more smoke. Why was that happening?
Richard Knight What happens when you go back to stock for the PCV (no can at all)? The can sealed should not do that. I have a write up why PCV is important to avoid ring flutter.
How do you keep you engin bay so clean?!
Car is only driven in summer, I run a closed oil catch can system so I don't get oil vapours all over the engine.
Ahh I remember seeing this vid a few weeks ago LOL... Yea I will have to consider it! I've got to modify a stamp to put on it though. Gotta represent the AJ350 and/or GFHV
Don't worry, mailing the stickers out tomorrow :)
Cool
How would one drain the catch can back into the oil pan without defeating the PCV valve? The gasses in the oil pan and the valve cover are the same. There linked by drain holes through the block and head. The PCV valve function is not to ventilate the engine so you don't suck blow-by at the wrong time.
Thanks for the comment!
I thought you did a video of installing one of these in your Silverado? Anyway I never installed one on my 06 Sierra or 06 GMC Yukon. I did install an Elite EX2 catch can on my 2018 6.2 Sierra since that one is direct injection.
jewllake I did a benefits video showing what it catches. The newer direct injection GM trucks for sure it needs this. The older trucks I think it can benefit as well.
Is running a closed catch can better for your VQ as opposed to an open/filtered one?
In my opinion it is. The PCV system can work as intended, the only difference is you're separating the oil.
What was the price for the system you installed?
I can't remember, it was a couple hundred bucks. Worth it for how well it's engineered.
Anthony...what kind of brand do you recommend for an oil catch can for an 06 get coupe 6mt?
Also do you think the catch cans with the filter on top work?..will it give me idile problems?..it gave me!
I recommend the one I used in the video. Saikou Michi.
@@AnthonyJ350 where did you buy it from?
Do you have a video for a 2005 G35? It’s extremely tight
Sorry no, this is the only video I have for these cars. What's going on?
Did you install on g ?
this is very informational but I don't know if I should sense I own a diesel not a gas
A diesel will benefit from a catch can too. The catch can exhaust hose will either go to the preturbo intake (for a turbocharged diesel) or to the intake manifold (for NA).
I would look into it.
Could you link to where you got this? I can’t seem to find it
www.saikoumichi.com/
hello anthony its me again:D you cant leave alone the right side... second one for intake tube is important too... 3:03 yes you must link it together ..:D
I plan to put one on the intake tube once Saikou Michi finishes their development. I plan to run it closed loop and separate, same as factory but with the catch can inline.
Anyone know what hose size is needed for the catch can?
Kit should come with the hoses you need.
That's the same catch can I was looking at to purchase.
Saikou Michi? It fits really good. I have a video for it. czcams.com/video/iSzU-cvlLO8/video.html
Great video. Im in the middle of installing the ADD W1 OCC on my G35 and things are tight because of my DRL module (go canada!) It looks like the catch can is touching the PS reservoir a little, any issues with rubbing at all? Same for the hose side, it looks really close, any issues with rubbing?
Nope, no issues on my end.
@@AnthonyJ350 Awesome. I didn't think the can touching the reservoir would be a big deal, but thought I'd ask someone with experience.
@@srv2low4me Let us know how it works out after.

@@srv2low4me Thank you! Every single one counts!
are you still running the same catch can? how has it held up.
Yup, car still has it. It's been great, zero issues. I recommend it.
So this kit works with the Kinetix Racing Velocity intake??
And do u think it would fit if i have a weapon R Coolant Overflow Tank??
Please need some help! My 350z has been having oil consumption issues
Does the Velocity intake have the PCV vacuum hose attached?
Also how long do you let the motor warm up before you drive (at least 30 seconds to a minute)?
Yea on avg about 30secs. Why?
Yes it has a pcv hose attached as well! I took pictures if u want i could send em to u. Really need some help
Jordan Baeza I ask because I think not letting oil circulate and aggressive driving while the motor isn't at operating temperature also leads to oil consumption.
Have you done any work on the endlinks? like a replacement video?
Not yet. I'm still decided what product to go with. Most likely the Moog pieces cause they look thicker than factory and have grease fittings. I don't like the exposed product like the Whiteline only because I don't think it's suitable for a vehicle that drives in the rain and daily applications like mine does.
Holy crap, that music around 11 minutes was loud! Can you please not make that volume a habit? Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback!
Silly question but since you say this catch can is specific to your vehicle, it's main purpose is for Z's rather than the G's?
Revolt Larz Wolfblade It should fit both cars since they're the same platform. Double check with the mnufacturer
Revolt Larz Wolfblade it will fit for my 04 g35 sedan it works trust me
What oil cap is that
Just one from ebay that says "Power by VQ35DE".
WILL THIS OIL CATCH CAN WORK FOR MY HR 350Z?
JUNEORJUNE I believe it does. Email Mr. Saikou (tell him I sent you) and he can verify.
Where do you recommend getting the hoses?
Local auto parts store. Make sure it's rated for oil and fuel.
Do you need a vented or non vented if your doing the PCV side only? I've heard if you do it wrong it'll idle all fucked up and it'll sound like a terrorist is getting water boarded at gitmo
All Dirty I did non-vented with internal baffles.
does it help with the oil consumption?
Definitely will slow it down.
Tony how's this working out for you??
Freaking awesome, I love this catch can for fitment and functionality
Hi! Can you show it for a 2014 Infiniti Q-50? Please if so let me know
Sorry don't have the video.
So you drop the oil that is inside the catch can away?
Ya I just put it in a container and bring it to a recycling facility.
How long it takes to get it full?
Could this be use on a pvc delete system ?
I suppose you could, but you need vacuum of some sort to pull harmful elements out of the crankcase. I have a detailed video here explaining it czcams.com/video/Kzo3ZlPKyxw/video.html
So the outlet or the inlet on the catch can hooks to the pvc on the valve cover?
Im just don't know where the hoses go.
Inlet from PVC outlet to manifold.
Thanks
@@austinbradley3411 You're welcome
Ok i put my catch can on inlet on the pvc and outlet on the manifold but my hoses go flat(pinch)
Any reason for this
@@austinbradley3411 When you run the engine?
Did this stop any oil burning?
Consumption is relatively the same, but at least it's not going back in. I also recently installed an oil cooler to help reduce the oil from cooking.
how's your oil consumption?
It depends on how hard I drive the car.
Planning on ordering on of these for my 06 g35.. is this guy legit , no scam?kind of skeptical since payment is through PayPal. Would this catch can be better than a Mishimoto (I noticed there’s is baffled but also have a FILTER)?
I prefer purchasing anything through PAYPAL, because if there is an issue PAYPAL can step in and help you get a refund. This company is legit and makes a very high quality product. Baffled, no filter. Tell him you saw this video.
@@AnthonyJ350 what would you suggest I get first the oil catch can or a short shifter ??

I usually just pour the catch can oil back in. lololololol
Tye Bradford Hmmmmm I wouldn't do that.
Otherwise it would be an oil garbage can. No these catch them so the oil can go back in.
like he said this oil is contaminated with carbon and fuel so why would you possibly do that.
Definitely don't do this for anyone that's reading this! Seriously wtf man, why would anyone think this would be a great idea is beyond me? The oil it's catching is contaminated with all kinds of gases and vapors. This is the most assinine shit I've ever heard to do to your car. You have no clue wtf you're doing for one. I'm planning on getting Mishimoto MMBCC-UNI-BK (larger) or Mishimoto MMBCC-MSTWO-RD Compact Baffled Oil Catch Can, 2-Port, Red (smaller). Whichever would fit inside these tight Nissan / Infiniti engine bays. Don't know which hose is the PCV and the other end to the air manifold b/c I can't trace the line.
Unfortunately I don't have a video specifically for this vehicle. You would have to get a service manual to help your figure out the original plumbing.
Hello Iv got the 2006 350 and was wondering as you may be familiar they are know to suffer with oil problems as it is the rev up type would this help solve the problem ? Thank you for your time
I don't know if this will solve the problem. If the PCV is the culprit it will still consume oil but will store it in the catch can. I would just install a bigger oil pan like one from Stillen.
