Stuck in resort during a Category 3 Hurricane Grace | Isla Mujeres, Cancun Mexico

  • Hurricane Grace makes landfall in Mexico, Isla Mujeres and ended up becoming a category 3, almost like Hurricane Ida. This is our first time experiencing/being in a hurricane. The winds and the waves were really loud and during the worst part of the storm, it got a little bit scary, especially being so close to the water and seeing massive waves right behind us. We lost internet both on our phones and hotel wifi, no running water and electricity cutting off every now and then. The walkway to the villas part of the resort got completely destroyed as well as the beach section where all the chairs and beds are. But the next day the resort and the beach already started recovering and I estimate it would take only about 2 weeks until everything is back to normal.
I have other videos filmed during this trip, but I wanted to edit this first because I feel it would be more useful and informative at the current time. Please subscribe and checkout later for more vlogs on Isla Mujeres and other travel destinations.

Hope Mia Reef gives you a good discount for next time!!!! Glad to see you guys being positive despite the situation. A lot of people turn ugly in those situations that honestly are out of everyone’s control. Great Video. Thx. Im hoping Mia Reef is back in good shape by December

no discount 😅, but it got pretty rough without power and running water for the first half of the day (can't flush toilet haha), fortunately the storm passed after one day, but if it lasted longer it wouldve been a different story.

Ok, let me chime in. Category 3 Hurricane- not even close, it was 1. Playa destroyed? Nope, just a bunch of tress down, power out for about 6 hours. I live here, and this kind of mishearing crap annoys me. Why would a resort give anyone a “discount” is beyond me. It amazes me the “bubble” people live in - you take this risk when you travel - it is not the resorts issue. They have enough costs to deal with trying to get their resort operational again after they hit.

I was here for Hurricane Grace as well - to say this was a category 3 is Hurricane is very misleading. It was a category 1, blew hard for 4 hours and then left. It did some minor damage, the power and water went out as well. Post Hurricane, the people mobilized and quickly cleaned up the mess completely within 3 days.

The place was just wrecked by a hurricane and you just keep asking when your conveniences will be back up, like they're supposed to know. How about asking if there is anything you can do to help?

Its very fortunate that this happened on your vacation. Maybe you will realize how much you depend on internet and start using it less, you may enjoy other things- storms are beautiful! Plus you will get a LOT more mileage out of this vacation than if everything had gone perfect. No we did not get destroyed in the Riviera Maya.

    • @EatandSnorkel
