    A few months ago I replaced 3 doors at a house built in the 1900s. Glad to see I did everything correctly. The fun part of doing a house so old is each measurement for the length and width on each side was different. The whole house is just one big uneven mess.
    One thing I also did which probably isnt needed, after using the glue I also used two small nails on each side when reinstalling the bottom core of the door. Just in case the glue fails after a few years the nails will be there to hold it into place.

      @@HomeRenoVisionDIY Well of course! I put on my grey shirt and blue jeans, pop the OLFA 25mm blade in my back pocket and get at it. You've changed perspective on everything I do, I'm faster, more efficient and more precise. I can rip a board quick wih my handsaw like you now lol. Even picked up a method from one of your earlier videos i believe... Today I had to cut a piece of plywood to fill in for the piece of the subfloor I forgot when i picked up a client payment. So I ever so quickly measured one end(4") and the other(3 1/2") total width of 33", ran outside, marked at 33", marked the 4" and 3 1/2 marks, drew my line with my leveler, made the cut and popped it right in within 20 seconds. WAAAAY faster than my over analyzing methods I used. You taught me to just freakin Do it! I even bring my 7/11 cup and pop it in the toilet hole when I do bathrooms to cover that stank hole up LOL Thanks JEFF! Watching your "Build a Beautiful Cedar Deck" video now although I'm doing a rear patio enclosure but the methods are the same.

    Here's a friendly tip on how to eliminate an OSHA violation where live outlets are uncovered (and keep the painters happy) Install a plate backwards over the duplex. (live screw terminals exposed) The outward curve of the plate gives the painter enough to cut in around the outlet saving a pricey fine, and their brush :~)
    Thanks for the instruction. Love watching someone who's done it before gettin' it done 👍

      I see that sometimes and always wondered why you would arrange to have that material on site when the door already has a filler available.

    • @rwind656
      @rwind656 Před 5 lety

      Well, we are always "on site" given we're at home. It's easier for us to grab something off the scrap pile and cut a plug to fit than to tear apart the end of the door and clean it up. Plus, I tend to be thrifty and think I will save the cut off half of the door and repurpose it in some way. I have closed in some transoms with the ends of 6 panel doors, and used the halves of others for attic access doors -- short stubby doors like this playroom door. I guess I could make a paneled box with the door skins, haven't yet. Just hate to destroy them until I have decided there's no use.

The door was only 40mm off, so if I cut into it im worried ill jeopordize that bit-I guess I could always get another bit off wood from bunnings to fit, or cut one. I went to see if I could buy a strip to put in place but was gifted thin strips my conscience does not allow me to just hook.up 1 inch thick strips for I know it is weak. Can I rent a planer to do this? How can I separate the facing of doors that were glued with silicone. I have hammer and chisel away but it is a slow process. @Gina-Montana Před 5 lety

      I would go with the circular saw out of the two, for sure. With a jig, not only would you be there all day but you always run the risk of it jumping around on you, ruining your straight cut and it can gnaw at and chip off your edges even if you tape it off. You could always try amazon for a planer, I got an electric one from amazon warehouse used and was able to easily plane down a few sticky parts of a solid oak door in no time. Even before a jig, I would go to the local hardware and get a manual planer lol. Jigs can be that much of a nightmare

    RE: The hollow doors, the boys at OCC on American Chopper made a career out of smashing these suckers up every episode, they wouldn't have lasted one episode with a solid panelled door.

    For Pete's sake, with just 2 quick clamps you can use that piece as a guide. Also, eye and ear protection.

    All you gotta do to finish that is:
    - Repair saw kickback mark
    - Repaint door
    - Pray to Christ that the door that fell didn't just scratch up the newly installed floor
    - Seal the 1/32" gaps where new core was installed after owner overheard you talk about critters and is now worried about tiny spiders getting into cracks.
    - Clean up work area
    Gotta love this line of work, it's always something. Take it easy.
