Hey Troy! I have been tuning down for decades. Way back in the mid 70's nobody in my band had a turner, so we always tuned our guitars to the first KISS Alive album. Kiss always tuned their guitars down a half step. Most of Van Halen's music with David Lee Roth was also tuned down to Eb/D#. It certainly made it easier to sing songs that where not normally tuned down. All of my guitars live at that tuning. If I ever want to play/sing a song in normal tuning, I just slap on a capo at the first fret and away you go. Thanks for passing this tip on to the guitar masses. :)
Hey Robert, thanks for commenting. That a great story! Tuning your guitars to the Kiss Alive album… that’s great! I’m going to start adopting Eb tuning more often in my tutorials. Just easier for me to sing. I probably should have done that in many of my previous tutorials.
If you have a capo and digital tuner it's way much easier. Tune your guitar to standard tuning, place capo on first fret; the tuning is now high on your digital tuner correct? Then simply tune to standard with capo still in place, remove capo and viola! You're now in E flat.
Yes!!!! Excellent tip! Thanks @edwinthompson5844. Capo the first fret and tune the guitar to standard tuning. Remove the capo and you have E flat tuning. Great comment!
Nice tip.
