If Dubai is making artificial islands because of lack of space why are they making them so expensive when only one person can afford to live on them Instead of making condominiums or multi or multi family facilities

instead of building dubai, they could have made the desert flourish. They could have spent their petrol money to build desalinization stations, create and nurture vegetation that would have finally changed the local climate (trees attract water). They could have used all that wealth and power to create a real sustainable eden, not that babel-like shit of a town, destined to crumble.
there's also the concrete problem. The sky-crappers (yeah, I know, not funny) are so tall you cannot pour regular concrete, it solidifies in the pumping pipes. You have to use a special concrete, more fluid. We don't know how this material is going to age. Regular concrete presents cracks in less than 60 years... this one may be crumbling way faster. Even if the ocean doesn't claim the land back, the buildings will eventually begin to crack and fall. I only wish those rich pricks will be in there when it does. Poetic justice at least.

We’ve been creating artificial land for at least 2 centuries. The southernmost parts of Manhattan are built on fill as are parts of Tokyo, San Francisco, and other major cities on the waterfront. Early in Chicago’s history, they actually lifted the entire city several feet to relieve issues caused by the swampy areas along the river. The problem with excessively using dredge fill or sediments from the sea is that the material has undergone major erosion which grinds off any rough textures on the surface and earthquakes will cause liquefaction and uncontrollable sediment flows because there is no friction between particles of sediment. Any large developments on artificial land sit on a ticking bomb because they are only as sturdy as their foundations.

As for the "world islands" I think they should be developed into low income housing or for the homeless population. You stated that even the super rich didn't want to live in the undeveloped islands, so let the poor or homeless live there. It has to be better probably than what they have at the present time. It doesn't have to be trillion dollar homes. Tiny homes (from larger storage buildings or from ship containers) can be gotten and neighborhoods developed quite inexpensively. I know that Dubai is one of the wealthiest places on earth, but where there are filthy rich, there are an almost equal number of indigent people as well. This is MY opinion, and just like butt-holes, everyone has one, right? That is what makes the world go round.

I'd agree but they are LITERALLY sinking as stated in the video - or rather the ocean is rising and swallowing/taking them back - if you're going to house people and all, doing so in a place GUARANTEED to at some point in the not at all distant future potentially being swallowed by the ocean or taken out by one bad storm is NOT where you should be trying to house someone - we have PLENTY of space vertically if we used it - both above and below ground - PLENTY of people would be happy with what would amount to an inverted skyscraper - living un underground low cost apartment - do you get windows or direct sunlight, no - but your cost of living would be WAY less - or should be - due to not having windows/daylight, but for MILLIONS of homeless around the word a small apartment underground built to stand up to whatever natural disasters might be around and that would have basic heat/air, provide them a safe place to have a bed and running water and such would HAPPILY take any day - granted as a temporary solution - sure, absolutely - all for using that "land" to help house people for free or low rent/rates/income and all, but that is a very limited solution - not to mention, also as mentioned in the video, I think it was the Word Islands are like 2.5 miles from shore - not exactly a ideal or good spot for poor/low-income residents who then are trapped there - unless they've got an employer to boat/chopper them to the mainland or they can work from home - and that assumes they have good reliable internet - I don't see how they make money to afford living there, even if it's super cheap - not to mention, even IF it was free housing for the homeless totally publicly funded by tax dollars and such, how do these people with nothing but their stuff and free apartment/homes/whatever get groceries - ANY use of these islands with people living on them by definition either requires the residents having ways to get to and from the islands (in the case of ones not connected to the mainland - and even if connected that still requires either public transport or being well enough off to have your own vehicle) - not to mention entertainment, etc.
Just seems like there are SOOOOO many FAR better as well as MASSIVELY cheaper/more efficient/better longer-term/futureproofed options than well let's just shove all the poor and homeless where we don't have to see or hear about them cause they've no way off without our help - or that one big storm taking out their power or internet or the one bridge connecting them to the mainland or shutting down their subway or tram or whatever and then it costs thousands to millions to get them off the island or rebuild or whatever. Granted the same could be said for building up or building down, but a LOT of the reasons these islands are being built in the first place could be at least mitigated or slowed down if countries like the US and China and other major world powers would stop burning through billions and billions of barrels of gas a day - instead of real estate, why not focus on green power that will slow and maybe eventually reverse melting ice and rising ocean and killing off of marine life and multiple MASSIVE piles of plastic and garbage spinning around in gyres around the oceans - like we don't need more space or more anything until we can figure out how to freaking handle and power and sustain etc what we currently have now - here and today :P and we are NOWHERE near being able to do that yet we keep wanting more when we already are taking more than we have - for such an "evolved" race we humans seem to be pretty damn stupid - or at least our politicians and the corporations that've bought them who make up and run our laws and governments are at any rate :P

Then it gets cooled and mixed with gypsum which turns into a fine power we know as general purpose cement. Adding water to this powder causes a chemical reaction that bonds the powder together. These islands didn't go through this process. They are just made of compact sand and rocks.

How much damage is done to the reefs when they use them as the base for these "manmade" islands? How much damage is done to the marine life and ecosystem? The oceans are already overfished by commercial fisherman. That's evident in the constant complaining about sharks being closer to shore than they used to be. What did people think would happen when their food source very far out into the ocean was being depleted faster than it can be naturally replaced? I thought coral reefs were protected as marine life in the ocean. Is that only in specific areas? All of the weight piled on top from sand, concrete, etc would be very destructive to coral reefs I would think. There again, what agencies monitor man made islands and the issues they will cause after being built? Greed, greed, greed. It's all but destroyed the Earth. It's disgraceful. The overfishing will continue. When you pump fossil fuel/oil out from underneath the Earth's crust and ocean floor - YOU HAVE TO PUT SOMETHING BACK IN THAT SPACE. Sink holes anyone? In the ocean I can only imagine the adverse effects we'll see. Too much shifting of the tectonic plates possibly causing tidal waves, natutal habitats detroyed possibly causing marine life extinction, increased pollution of the oceans, oil spills, marine life dying as a direct result, etc. As coast lines erode, so does farm ground and people's homes. The weather will change where they're located. Who can actually afford to live on these floating islands? Seriously? California's floating trash dump is no better. It's disgusting and inexcusable. All in the name of greed. Human beings are the worst and the largest parasite on the planet by far. In my not so humble opinion.

This is a very informative and interesting video. The manmade islands are facsinating but I can't imagine anyone wanting to live on them full time. It shows how many wealthy people live in these countries though. China's desire to be the worlds new superpower is what drove them into bankruptcy and now they can't even afford to keep feeding their vast population of people. Not to mention all the natural disasters that continue to plaque them. It's crazy. These military islands are China's way of getting close enough to other countries they want to conquer in the future so they won't need to go from the mainland which is quite far for them to reach without being detected. Also, while they're tapping into these oil and gas resourses America is moving away from fossel fuels as are other European countries China would need to market to in order to make back the money they are spending on these so called "Economic World Domination" plans.
