    I fully agree with League being very difficult to isolate and practice. I was high ELO in FPS games like Apex and Overwatch, and got really good at rhythm games like guitar hero back in the day, but it's taken me much longer to get better at League than it took for any of those other games. My first FPS game I ever played competitively was Black Ops 2, and I went from barely being able to aim to #10 world wide in the competitive mode in just a few months. I was not at all able to just jump into League and jump up to high ELO quickly.

    The biggest issue I've had in my on and off time with League, which I'm currently trying to just stop playing, is how what works against one person will just completely fail against another person playing the same champ. One night I played against three Setts back to back, all different guys. The first two I completely annihilated as Poppy. I mean, dude's couldn't hit their W's, I didn't let them ult me into towers, I punished their aggressive attempts at E stuns, could run bruiser Poppy I was so far ahead of them. And then the third guy. Suddenly he was landing those Es I was punishing, knew to follow them up with a W so the stun locks me into the true damage until I got some CC resist. I had to build tank and was basically worthless the whole game. I have no idea what happened. Dude wasn't even high ranked, on that account at least. It feels hard to learn ... anything when one game you can free farm lane, get massive CS, enemy plays like a coward, their attacks tickle and you laugh while nuking them under tower, and then the next game you play the same champ and he's beating you in the middle of the wave at level 1.

    • @ShokLeague
      @ShokLeague  Před 5 měsíci

      I think this is why it's important to just focus on fundamentals and not so much worrying about how your opponent is playing. If you play a solid game all around you should naturally do well against whoever your opponent is.

    Ur totally right about Apex comparison. It took me 4 months to grind master tier in Apex (maybe, playing CS:GO for a decade helped me a ton but it's still a new game which is kinda unique and barely has anything in common with CS:GO if we exclude aiming) , it's basically impossible in LOL since only learning champs and fundamentals are going to take you like at least 6 months. It took me 2 seasons to reach masters in LOL for the first time in s6.

    heyo, thanks a lot for all the content you provide - really helps a lot.
    Here are a few of my thoughts that maybe you can take into account: I started playing the league just 3 months ago, now I'm at rank 2 silver and continue to climb. I've found that in a solo queue, a lot of the things you show in pro games or master+ elo just don't work due to the chaos of the random. And that's fine, that's the way it should work. But I'm struggling to find any comments/analysis at plat elo and below. I mean, it would be great to see what I/you can actually do better in the various (non typical high ranks) situations or mistakes that often happen at mid and low ranks.
    another thanks for laning & farming guides

    • @ShokLeague
      @ShokLeague  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the feedback. I feel like most of the stuff I've said should work in all elos, perhaps stuff around the jungle and side laning may not. Could you share what things you feel like don't work and what situations/mistakes you run into? I could definitely make some sort of video addressing more common pitfalls but it's harder to know without specifics. Appreciate the kind words

    • @nightcrow2962
      @nightcrow2962 Před 2 lety +2

      Fundamentals theoretically should work in all ELOs. The common issue however in lower ELOs is that you can at times forget about the fundamentals because there are more distractions (aka randomness) and players tend to overcompensate. With that said, following the fundamentals doesn't guarantee you a win. It simply is not possible to win all of your games. Sometimes, we feel like it doesn't work because we usually remember the times we lost more rather than the times we won as we might be under the impression that fundamentals should net us a win. I would say focus more on stability instead of winning and losing and everything should follow. Good luck.

    • @erictang781
      @erictang781 Před 2 lety +1

      My silver friend has actually been doing a climb to gold challenge where our group bet on how long he’ll take. I’m P3 and have been helping coach him, and he had the same sentiment where at low elo, you are forced to play for chaotic teammates and enemies. But I assure you (and he will now too) that doing these fundamentals will become super important! But knowing when to take fights and not being selfish the whole game seemed to be a really important skill he had to work on too, like what are the rewards, does the game depend on you guys winning a fight, what are your chances. Most of the time though, focusing on dominating lane and staying safe with good vision and positioning will put you in a really good spot to carry. Hope this helps!

    hey Shok this video is super informative! I’m wondering where to put macro decision making into those categories and what your opinion is on improving that. For example stuff like when to side lane vs group or when to set up an obj or push out a wave or things like that. Also would love to see a more in depth guide on team fighting if that’s one of the topics you’re considering making! I have a lot of games where things go ok and my team is winning then we do a 5v5 at 3rd drake and we just lose and then subsequently lose every 5v5 after that. I’d like to say its stuff like broken champs (my most recent loss a Vayne Yuumi enemy combo just 2v8 carried) but I know that’s probably a cop out and not solution based way to approach the problem.

    • @ShokLeague
      @ShokLeague  Před 2 lety +3

      I'd say a lot of the macro decision making falls under the other categories like Farming (side laning) or Roaming (which waves etc) but you could easily make it into it's own category honestly. I think macro decision making is definitely harder to work on because you don't get as immediate feedback, but probably the best way would be to watch a pro player and try focus on when they are side laning or when they are grouping/pushing etc. Feels a lot more knowledge based than something you kinda get repetitions on in game if that makes sense. Teamfighting is definitely something I still need to cover! So I'll definitely do that soon, we'll stop those Vayne Yuumis haha

Dying to jungle ganks will mainly be a warding/wave management problem. Can't really speak for your laning phase without knowing more.

    Fantastic guides man, I have a question, I am back in the game now and my placements are in Iron 2, I will get fed, and then in midgame either of 2 things will happen, my team decides to play aram, I go with them and lose any xp gold advantage I had, or they will refuse to pressure the map while Im sidelaning and I get stuck with teammates who refuse to contest anything and we just lose slow and steady, sometimes I feel so helpless in these situations because I know exactly what to do but my team will not listen. Do you have any advice on this or should I just accept it that it happens and that I can not do anything about it?

    • @ShokLeague

      If you have TP you can mostly just side lane and TP to fights, if you don't have TP then you probably want to push out sidelanes and then group. If your team fights without you, try trade as much gold as you can on the other side of the map

      @@ShokLeague I do play with TP however more often than not they will not throw any wards for me to TP onto, and while I come into the fight I dont even get the chance to cleanup, i.e. I push bot just one wave and as soon as I go to farm it my team gets engaged on (and this was near me in bot jg), dies and I come there to clean up but more often then not trade 1 for 2 or 3 and they can still push or take objectives, eh I guess I just jave to play as you said and some things are just out of your control.

    I just started playing katarina and i think she is really fun, but i have the feeling that the laning/farming fundamentals are a bit different for her. Is that correct to think?

    • @nightcrow2962
      @nightcrow2962 Před 2 lety +1

      This is correct. I would say that Katarina is not really recommended if you are looking to overall improve at the game because she has less transferrable skills compared to other champions. You can also somewhat cheese the laning phase and skip it altogether by simply roaming. So if you are looking to improve at the game, I suggest picking other champions that have more transferrable skills like Ahri, Syndra, etc. If you are looking to simply gain LP, then feel free to go with Kat. Try watching Kat OTPs and observing how they are gaining leads on certain matchups and then transferring that lead to other lanes. The thing is, Katarina is a champ that somewhat focuses on punishing mistakes rather than pressuring your enemy during laning phase. You simply do not have the tools to have initiative in terms of lane control.

    • @CreativePuppyYT
      @CreativePuppyYT Před 2 lety +1

      @@nightcrow2962 Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I played ahri a lot, but i feel like i lack damage to solo carry teams somehow, even if i build ludens. Do you think that is just because I am playing bad that i lose most games with ahri? Or do you know other assasin like champs that these fundamentals do apply to like diana/fizz/qiyana/zoe/ekko/akali/talon etc? which can solo carry. Or shouldnt solo carrying even be my focus in low elo and just learn the fundamentals? I dropped from gold 2 to gold 4 and have been stuck in gold for several seasons, also because i change my champion pool quite a bit. But im now finally looking for a champ i can stick with.

    • @nightcrow2962
      @nightcrow2962 Před 2 lety +1

      @@CreativePuppyYT When you actually start learning the fundamentals, you can expect to drop most of your games initially especially when you are not used to doing them. This is because carrying with champions like Katarina and Talon is different from carrying with Ahri. From what you told me, you might have misunderstood Ahri's identity. There is a reason why Ahri is arguably the best mid-lane champ right now. With that said, you won't carry with her through her damage alone. She's a champ who excels in getting picks, roaming and neutralizing almost all matchups. Not necessarily killing all of your enemies like Katarina. Think of her like a Twisted Fate or Leblanc. Your job is to impact the map and set up kills for your teammates (hoping that they can carry you late game most of the time). If this playstyle isn't for you, then you might want to look for a different champion. When it comes to 1v9 potential, something like Yone might be what you are looking for. With that said, Fizz is also good for practicing fundamentals. It's just that there are some matchups that are unplayable. Unlike Ahri or Syndra who can neutralize bad matchups. All mid lane assassins except Katarina and Talon should help you with fundamentals so feel free to use whatever you enjoy the most. It really depends on what your goal is. Is it to improve or to climb as fast as possible?

      Refers to lane setup in the mid game, so a 1-3-1 would have your mid/top laners in the side lanes, and your 3 (adc, supp and jg) playing on the mid wave. More normal setup in the mid game is 4-1, with whoever has TP up out of the mid/top laner in the side lane.

    "a few hundred hours later I was master tier".
    That's the issue right there. You can't coach that. Some people have that Asian level talent that can just pick something up, put nearly no investment into it and completely master it. People have put thousands of hours into that game and others and have never, and likely will never, see anything close to those kinds of results. I think at the end of the day the most important factors for these things are mechanical skill and dexterity, as well as composure.
    The one constant I've seen in high level players is they can get completely shat on by a low elo player while their team is fucking a football 5 meters away from them and they just laugh about it and it's out of their mind 3 seconds later. The average league player, and I'd put myself into this category, has that happen to them and for the rest of that game if not partly into the next game, can't stop visualizing how it would look to reach through their monitor and strangle their team mates. Rage. Completely useless virtue and a total hindrance. And for those people it's also nigh impossible to control.
