  • The Centro Escolar University Folk Dance Troupe performs "Manton de Manila" during its culminating activity on the 27th of October 2017, at the Librada Avelino Auditorium, Centro Escolar University - Manila.
    The event was entitled "Usbong: Ikalawang Henerasyon" with the theme, "Continuing the legacy of quality and excellence through performing arts."

    Cramped Stage, good thing the dancers are divisive enough to be able to dance in such a very minute space.

    Manton de Manila reminds me of a bitter childhood memory. I really wanted to be part of the folk dance team of our elementary school but they said I was not tall enough. They danced this piece and my crush got partnered with someone else. 😆

    It really irks me that most Latino and Spanish websites would always claim that the Manila Shawl/Manton de Manila originated in China when in fact Tagalog women were already using "alampay" and even the Boxer codex shows that.

      A lot of things in Spanish and Latin American culture come from us, but they don't want to admit it because that would be giving too much credit to people they see as below them. so they'd rather make up some convoluted story about how it came from China.

      This is a filipino folk dance, this is at our university performed by our folk dance troupe, tey only perform filipino folk dance
