Damn this is one of the realest interviews ever. The emotion of the loss is still there. Props to Dustin for just being himself but definitely feel bad for him.
Kinda reminds me of Dominick’s post-fight following his loss to Cody at UFC 207. I love these guys showing the world how to take a loss like a man
@gi7685 it's possible that the better fighter doesn't always win that's why some guys win in rematches and lose in rubber matches it just happens sometimes. It's like if you fought 100 times someone could win 60 out of 40

As a Dustin fan, this is the absolute best interview Ive ever seen of him. Extremely raw, honest, & open. I could have watched another hour of this back n forth conversation. Good job Ariel on a great interview. Dustin, on the 1% chance you see this, if it means anything Ariel is 100% right. In no way did you need the BMF belt or this win to validate your career or cement your legacy. That is already done my dude. Anything you accomplish now or in the future is just icing on the cake.

Im such a huge Dustin fan inside and outside the cage. Such a great ambassador for the sport. I get so heartbroken for him when he loses, but he always bounces back strong. He has still never lost 2 in a row

All the respect to Dustin. His outlook and perspective after suffering such a vicous KO is just crazy. The mental fortitude this man has. Also absolutely agree with him. Veterans fighting the up and coming young guys is what the UFC does to give them a leg up and sunset the vet. Dustin isn't there yet and he doesn't need to put himself there. Dude is still one of the very best fighters in the world and a legend of the sport.

Thats not mental fortitude, sounds like a passive aggressive sore loser. Getting KO'd by someone who is "not better than you" logically is a worse look than being KO'd by someone who is in fact at the same level of competition as you.

IMO, Dustin and Justin are some of the realest guys in the sport. As a fan, it was always going to be tough to watch one of them lose. This sport is brutal like that.
You can call him a sore winner all you want, but he took this loss with grace here (especially to a guy he'd previously beaten before). Much respect to the one of the greatest LWs that never won the championship, The Diamond.
He’s been respectful until the other person does something to deserve criticism for. Chandler especially, the guy was cheating in every way imaginable

One observation that I'd like to add is that what cements his legacy is how he handles, this loss and his other losses, by coming on and giving detailed insight, details, feelings, and laying out his raw emotion for us fans! You can tell he’s still so frustrated. I feel for him. It’s such a devastating sport. You can put months of hard work and sacrifice into one fight and it can be over in 6 minutes. Very hard to accept especially when you truly believe you’re the better fighter. I hope he gets another shot at the title, he 100% deserves one.
Can be over in .6 seconds…it’s very cruel but that’s why it’s so fun to watch too. Volatile sport unless your name is Jon Jones or Khabib

Dustin is such a genuine human being. With every fight and every interview i just become a bigger fan of his. He is always winning at being an inspiring individual. It's fighters like him that make me so proud to be part of the MMA community.
Wow, what a great interview! Ariel, you have a way with words and authentic in connecting and relating with Dustin. I didn’t plan to watch the entire interview but Dustin’s raw emotions and Ariel’s empathy got me hooked. Dustin is a an honorable warrior. He’s honest with being hurt from the loss. He holds no animosity but respect and admiration to Justin’s beautiful setup that ultimately defeated him. It’s heartbreaking to see how devastated Dustin from this loss, but refreshing to see how genuine and open Dustin is. Kudos to both Ariel & Dustin!

I met Dustin at UFC tampa a few years ago. He was arriving with his wife the same time I walked up to the arena. I asked for a pic and he couldn't have been nicer to stop and take one with me. Stand up guy, just like you said

I thought Dustin was gonna catch Justin with a head kick! Justin dipped his head to Dustin's left side 3 times in the first round. Had me nervous since I was rooting for Gaethje lol.
Yeah gaethje was also really reacting bad to those body kicks. Ducking his entire body and dropping his head, you can tell he realllllllly doesn’t like body shots but he was open himself to head kick or a knee right up the middle. Fortunately for gaethje Dustin doesn’t really throw head kicks and fair play, even though Dustin did have half his guard up the head kick still wrapped around the guard and around the head and put a super durable great 5 round fighter away.

That was his technique even against Fiziev. It is far better than same defence for everything as Dustin does. 😂

Man o man I can feel it through the screen - been a fan of Dustin's in his whole LW run - I saw him in the build up to 178 and how he was feeling the pressure but this DP at LW he just bleeds his emotions in his wins and losses and you are with him every time.
That last section "i'm a slick motherf***er man" and Justin denied him the ability to show that this time out - gotta love this game man! I turned my back on boxing week in week out in 2014 for the mma game and haven't looked back!

You can see how much he wanted this, and how concious of his mistake he is- it's truly admirable. I do believe that he can beat Justin again, but man it hurts seeing him like this- even though he's content and he's happy/
So inspirational, this loss of yours and the way you rise above it and how you are going through it might have made me feel love and your honestly much more than maybe even in a win.
I am greatful for you showing many of us the way by walking through the fire of life.

I remember tweeting to him years ago when had that leg injury...told him his day would come and has he ever come a long way since then! He should be tremendously proud of himself and not just because of his accomplishments professionally but just as a decent family man and how he handles himself as a man. Dustin and Justin were on an identical flight path and it breaks my heart that only one guy will ascend in these situations. I'm a fan of both of these guys and I hope we see a trilogy before their retirement. There is a BMF belt the trilogy could be an Icon belt or a legend belt because both Dustin and Justin have cemented themselves as future Hall of Fame inductions in my opinion.

This is most revealing and realest fighter interview ever ,I learned so much inside knowledge not to mention the emotional intelligence Dustin possesses. Damn it feels like I lost the fight.Thats how good Dustins breakdown and analysis of how a loss feels like. No fighter has sent that frustration, disappointment and hurt so accurately to me like he did. Im blown away.

How could you not love this guy?? He must know he'll always be one of the GOATS in the UFC!! That 291 fight didn't change anything!! He'll get another opportunity in the near future - one that challenges him in the way he deserves!! A trilogy? They'll figure it out. He deserves another opportunity for the title. I loved what Ariel said to Dustin about the BMF belt, his legacy and his spot in the hall of fame and how not having won the BMF belt doesn't change anything about it 💯👊
Definitely. That belt has absolutely nothing to do with his legacy. It’s a loss but it doesn’t subtract from his greatness.
25:32 Ariel is such a weasel. He always pulls this type of thing. Literally asking a question himself that HE wants to know the answer to, but placing the blame on someone else or quoting someone else and acting like it's not on him because he's just repeating it. It's a slimy move and if he genuinely didn't like it, he wouldn't repeat it. He did the same thing last week and countless other times too.
I hate that he doesn't believe Gaethje was the better fighter. You can visibly see Gaethje setting up Poirier for the head kick. Gaethje was overlooked before and is clearly still being overlooked. Post fight, there's been nothing but Poirier "damage control" interviews...
The last 10 minutes hit me hard. If I don't stay busy in the gym and work I lose myself. Get frustrated and end up drinking and being bad for myself. Shout out Dustin

IMO Dustin is still a better fighter than Gaethje but MMA is such a great sport because anything can happen, there is no room for mistakes and anyone can win in any given night.

He called it pretty much, said if it went the distance, he was going to win, which I agree with. Said Gaethje would have to try to catch him early.
Dustin is definitely the more well-rounded fighter, higher level boxing and bjj, probably wrestling too considering how little Justin has utilized it over the years.
It was a lucky shot, also these things tend to happen when people are over-confident. Justin set him up good though, he baited him into thinking an overhand was coming, then came the kick.
The issue is these guys are counter the counter type of fighters. They build their gameplan around countering your counter. Justin has mentioned this before as well about Dustin. So he pulled a Dustin playbook(added it to his game). Dustin is famous for adding the things he lost to, to his game, and even winning with it.
Lol, Gaethje has evolved too much where as Dustin remains the same. Same defence for everything. If they fights 10 times Justin will win 9 out of 10 times.

Dude Dustin is always gonna be my fave fighter. Just dig the guy so much. Fighting is wild, but dude your healthy and your family is healthy. You made cake on the fight. It was hard watching one of my favorite fighters lose; however, he’s still one of the GOATS of the sports & a true class act.
Justin was ahead in every way. He was not behind and you could tell this was gonna end with Justin still standing and Dustin sleeping. Mid 1st I knew this was gonna be a gathje highlight.
