Vivid memory of opening a parcel, living at home with my Connemara parents in Boston, MA 1977, contained therein, LPs- first two Bothy Band records, two De Danaan records, a couple of Chietftains albums, and sean nos singers from Carna Joe Heaney and Sean ac Donnca. There hasn't been a richer era for Irish trad music.

Agreed! Truly the era of Irish trad music Renascence. I as well have very similar memories of Celtic LPs arriving from Green Linnet in the 70's, the golden age of Irish traditional music. Great albums from Planxty, Bothy Band, Altan and the like served as tutors for my growing repertoire on accordion and whistle. My turntable had a 16 rpm setting down from the normal 33 1/3 rpm, where I could slow the blindingly fast reels down to half speed and get them note for note. Musicians had to be resourceful back in the day before information and technology made everything so available at the click of a mouse.

Indeed It was the folk revival of the 70’s. Great solo albums in the late 70’s, Frankie Gavins 1st, Kevin Burke, ’If the Cap fits’ both 1978 and Mary Bergin and Liz Carroll 1st solo albums in 1979. All classics.

Lots of voice, instruments. Honest and straight, no frills, rough edges. Irish folk how I love him. Besides Planxty and the Wolfetones one of my first records at the age of 13 :-D

I was 9 or 10 when my parents gave me a compilation album called "Another Feast of Irish Folk". This was a _Huuge_ element in my musical education, like hearing Coltrane or Parker and realizing Jazz didn't have to be like the stuff bands played at supermarket and car showroom openings, or, well, I was already into rock, but hypothetically, listening to late period Status Quo and then discovering Zeppelin, or Hendrix! Prior to "AFoIF", well, Irish _Pop_ was bad enough; Gina Dale Haze & the Champions× - *>`eeesh!!’
