    Can you imagine a middle-class family being openly looted by a reputed and renowned corporate group like ICICI??
    If you think it is safe to blindly trust employees of a well-known and well-regarded bank, then you must watch this video to find out how this family's deposits worth Rs. 80-85 lakhs have been forfeited by the ICICI group.
    If you think that these clients signed the proposal forms for insurance policies and that therefore they only are to blame for the fiasco then you need to understand that an insurance company’s primary task is to underwrite the risk cover being sought by a prospective client. That is, the insurance company needs to satisfy itself if the prospective client is in a position to continue paying premiums regularly and if the risk cover being sought is as per the needs and requirements of the customer or not. This is done by way of verifying various declarations made in the insurance proposal form and the Agent Confidential report signed and submitted by the agent along with the proposal forms.
    Also as per the Guidelines on Anti Money Laundering program for Insurers issued by IRDAI, the insurance company is mandated to ensure that the insurance being purchased by a customer is reasonable (i.e. as per the needs and requirements of the customer). Accordingly, the customer’s source of funds, his estimated net worth, etc., should be documented properly and the advisor and/or employee should obtain income proofs, to establish the customer’s need for insurance cover. Also, the requirement of exercising detailed due diligence for all customers paying premiums higher than 1 lakh per annum by the insurer is clearly and specifically mentioned in AML Guidelines.
    The IRDA through its notifications has also mandated that all Life Insurance companies must adopt the practice of PIVC (Pre-Issuance Verification Call) to prevent mis-selling and unfair business practices and to ensure that during policy solicitation and sale stages, the prospects are fully informed and made aware of the terms and conditions of the product being sold.
    Hope the regulators put their foot down and ensure effective adherence to the laid down guidelines at least by reputed and renowned corporations like ICICI.
    Groups like ICICI also have a moral and ethical responsibility towards their customers and they are bound by their code of conduct policies for zero tolerance to such frauds and employees involved in such acts deserve to be severely punished.

      the big they are the more fraud they do, even my father got stuck in a credit card interest which my father didn't know they didn't told him he was using it as a debit card, after some time we had to pay 1.5 L just interest, and this is a lot for us as our family income is less as we live in a tier 3 city, what we should do is read all the documents do not trust anyone.@@malayaranjansahoo6448

    Same happened in year 2010, they took 60k for more than 3 years, & suppose to pay 90k, but finally returned 59k , I was completely blank that moment. Their simple ans was this is the current market value.

    I had a similar experience with HDFC Life. I was cheated and fraudulently thrust with a policy with all false promises. When the same person again tried to sell 2nd time. I recorded and reported to HDFC. After 4-5 escalations and warning for legal action, they paid back the money - Rs 3.15 lacs. Their own staff was involved along with agents.

      I've the same issue with HDFC Life Medical Policy. The Policy was sold through the Bank and now I have to fight my case in Ombudsman. I don't know if Ombudsman has been bought over by HDFC Life because so confidently they are giving me the name to go and complain at the Ombudsman. Looks like the case will be ruled in their favor and we common men are left with nothing. Today also if you go to the HDFC Bank you have people selling all different products sitting in their premises but if there is an issue they point blank inform you get in touch with the respective company. I also question them why they are selling😮 the products in your Bank??? Richard Mendes

    I was working in the banking sector in a similar third party relationship with an insurance company. M not taking the side of the bank or the insurance company here. All i want to say is that I feel, what leads the employees of banks and insurance companies to such mis selling is the extreme work pressures through irrational targets set by their managers and directors. The reality on the ground is quite different. It is probably a middle class citizen working at these banks with mega financial dreams (nothing wrong with having high aspirations) trying desperately to make it large in life without realising that it takes a lot of hard/smart work and patience to get there. They see such opportunities as shortcuts to get them closer to their dreams. This segment of society is also the most competitive and cut throat that they are willing to do anything to get to their goals. Morals are secondary at this point.       I am happy you brought up the issue of morals and ethics. The truth is that these values are losing their shine and today's generation actually does not care and understand the importance of these values. All they want is to grow even if the growth comes at the cost of immoral practices. They do not understand that such practices are burdensome and will keep haunting them.
      As for the update on the case, we are working with more than 92% resolution success rate and this particular case is currently pending for a decision by Permanent Lok Adalat, Mumbai. We are expecting a decision soon. Regards

    My sister runs a small school and has an account in a public sector bank. Her employee forged her signature on a cheque for 15,000 and ran away with the money. When my sister went to the bank to complain, an employee said, "Really, this isn't your signature? Please sign right next to the forged signature on the cheque so we can compare." She trusted him and signed. Right away, he said, "Now that you've put the correct signature on the cheque, I will say that it was there originally when your employee brought it in. You have no more case against us."

    Financial education is a must . I am a banker in a PSB . Have account in both osb and pvt . Better to invest in govt schemes like ppf nps and bank products like fd rd . never park your money through any agent.

    SBI bank does the same. I have got 2 policies from them. To buy the policy becomes compulsory if you need bank locker etc.

    Fully agree. I was also conned by the ICICI Life agent . He was introduced to me by the branch manager. But when I had some queries about the policy , the same branch manager washed his hands off. Ditto is the case with ICICI wealth managment. All of them out to swindle you.

    This is common practice now. Agents are sitting inside bank and bank employees are redirecting customers to them. Always look for ID card and ask for details in written.

    I am a victim of a similar scam from Yes Bank. They told me it's a product, but they sold me a policy. I feel we should investigate a lot more before investing rather than trusting these RMs. I've stopped listening to these guys now, and others should do the same.

    Always go to your bank and do transactions. Use your nearby bank.
    Do banking with bankers, not through agents. Most of the salaried class person do at the most four transactios in a month. ATMs are their for daily cash requirements. Cash deposit machines are there. Use standing instructions. Randomly check your statement of account.

    Thanks to the family for coming forward with the details. Almost everybody has been cheated by the banks at one point or the other. Main issue is the “agency problem”. Agents enjoy commission but dont take any form of responsibility and dont face any consequences if customer suffers.

    It takes lot of courage to come out and speak about what mishap happened by a big brand like ICICI of which i am customer myself, i wish the family get their entire savings back along with the compensation for the sufferings , and the fraudsters being put to justice .     At that time, ICICI operated like a pawn shop under Chanda Kochhar. My father was also sold a high value policy on fake description. Several people in my knowledge had huge mismatches in savings and loan accounts, and managers were given fat incentives for manipulating accounts.
    Congress awarded her as CEO of the year several times for this noble act of running this scam Nexus. Thankfully, she is now behind the bars.

    All of you saw recently how one private bank manager shout to their employee to bring customer by current/saving account and sell insurance policy. This is the culture of private bank. Its always better to have account in "nationalise bank". Migrants who works in private bank do misselling. You can see the difference between employees of Nationalise and Private bank. Anyone with graduation degree can get a job in private bank if s/he ready to do sells job. Its a free entry for migrants to come in Mumbai.

      When I took loan the SBI also asked me to mandatorily avail the Insurance policy@10000p.a. some of my friends was even asked to avail the Life Insurance@1Lakh p.a.

    same thing happened to me in 2016 with SBI
    exactly same thing
    wrong signatures
    wrong email ID
    wrong mobile number
    wrong family background
    wrong profession
    wrong annual salary
    different agent (some lady name i never kno)
    i took 6 lakhs policy, no cashback was given by agent, he said hes bank employee and its directly from bank, but i saw agent n agent code in my policy documents
    thank god i reported it quickly, a month after i got policy hard copy and SBI investigated it and found the agent guilty for many frauds like this and fired him
    infact after that her sister (probably the lady agent) came to my house crying "please take your complaint back, my brother is getting fired by SBI
    i didnt even opened the door and asked her to leave
    after few months i heard from many sources that he has been terminated by SBI and his agent license has been cancelled by IRDA

    I hope they get their money back. Also take this as a example why financial knowledge is so important nowadays. Never blindly trust any RM or advisor. Our Education system never teaches us these things which are actually applicable in real life to EVERYONE. Always know where your money is going. If you do not understand something then either research about it or completely ignore it never just go by the words of someone.

      Multiple insurance policies have been sold to this family under the garb of issuing (hybrid) fixed deposits without following the norms and regulations of the regulating authorities and now the amount deposited by this family in these multiple insurance policies is under danger of getting forfeited by the insurance company because this family is not in a position to continue premium payment in these policies. The insurance company was required to verify if or not the client can make regular premium payment in policy and because the insurance company did not performed it's task properly the family is getting punished and the insurance company is being benefitted although the entire fault is of the insurance company only

    If we r going to bank for FD, then bank people will try to trap for other insurance, policies n SIP ex.
    Will try to show dream after few years you will get lekhs of money…..

      You nailed it with very appropriate comments. They should come out and explain why so many policies were issued without following the rules and norms prescribed by IRDAI. Why no Pre Issuance Verification call process was adhered to? Why Icici Prudential did not called for ITR/income proof related documents of the customer to verify if he or she would be able to continue premium payment for all these policies or not.

    This is undoubtedly an unfortunate incident, however, thugs are everywhere, we shouldn't rely upon anyone, especially in case of money
    We have a nearby HDFC Bank which opened very recently . One day I went there to enquire about availability of locker facility for the preferred customers. Instantly they started insisting me to do some policies. Even the lady who was mainly saying this, seemingly she was not even from HDFC
    I reported this to HDFC over social media and then all of a sudden I started getting calls from operations manager, branch manager and they said they didn't have locker at that time and they will inform me as soon as it is available. And just tried to bypass the policy thing. Eventually they actually gave me a locker but this kind of things they always do to the customers for doing some policies or demat account or something.

      Hi Sir,
      I had filed a PIL in Hon'ble Rajsthan High Court and later also escalated to Hon'ble Supreme Court. I had highlighted more than 100 such cases of fraud done by Icici Prudential to poor farmers, widows, senior citizens and students etc. But they wanted that only victims must come forward and therefore the PIL got dismissed.
      This particular case is currently filed in Permanent Lok Adalat, Mumbai. We are awaiting a decision and will keep our audience informed as and when we receive any update. Regards

      unforntunately that is case in moody lingam rajya. moody has no lingam btw. In USA such lawsuits are worth 100x the lost amount and will be have fastrack hearing.

    I have a similar case to quote being scammed first by payment manager of Bank of America at Delhi&later by the scheming official of this govt in july 2022.Some 14 banks/Institutions/agencies being involved including CCI& Consumer Forum Delhi. Self a retired EPF0 pensioner at 62.

    Being a banker i understand a bit about the policies. all of these policies lock our money for a period of time. people need only 2 products in their life time 1. health insurance 2. term insurance . & for investment mutual funds / SIP is there even not FD. good to see your initiative. Did they got their money back ?

Please help me what should I do??

    My dad worked in KVG bank (Govt rural bank) for 35+ years and retired last year, they served people by informing proper rules and policies, also explained individually gov.t benefits and subsidiaries etc... In the retired speech they mentioned don't trust any PVT. bank people they tell only the advantages but not mention other side, It's our each and individual responsible to avoid any pvt. bank people, until it is necessary for us not to them

      Your father must be the honest employee of that bank. Many governemnt employees do their job with honesty but overall condition of government banks is also not good. They survive because government put money in these banks called as recapitalization of banks and private banks don't have that facility.
      There is a need to create strict laws for banking and finance instead of blaming private or government banks.
