  • @SiCrewe
    @SiCrewe Před 4 lety +3

    Love the way this starts off with Andrew showcasing his own truck but it's not long before he's outside, nosing around other people's vehicles as well.
    That 2-door Range Rover was beautiful, BTW.
    I recall Andrew saying, in a previous video, how the thing he likes about Toyotas is that they're always reliable so the vehicle, itself, is never something he has to be concerned about.
    I wonder if that'll change now he's driving a truck that he's built himself?
    I always find that building a vehicle makes you much, much, more aware of the potential problems each component can have and, as a result, you pay much more attention to everything, often to the point of paranoia.

    • @maverick2242
      @maverick2242 Před 4 lety +1

      It’s not the vehicle that’s the problem, as usual it’s the people that’s work on it before he and Paul got to it, unfortunately the down side of buying second hand, you never know what you are going to get until you take a bite and by then it’s too late, just like a box of chocolates, no give backs! I’m sure they will sort out the gremlins in the end. Moral of this story never buy unseen, the internet never looks as good in person!

    Fitted a bigger fuse.....what about heavier wiring? When I fitted a 270 amp (mil spec) alternator to my 100 series years ago, I used 35mm² (aka 2B&S) cable between the alternator and battery. The fuse protects the cable. Putting in a bigger fuse without changing the cable size, could result in disaster.....just saying.

    • @philhealey449
      @philhealey449 Před 4 lety +1

      On the same tack, your 270 Amp alternator charging at 14Volts would consume likely 5.5 to 6 kW of shaft power, so belt speed might have needed increasing and/or more angle of pulley contact from an extra idler.

    • @jonburchell2760

      You seem sincere, so let me help you out here - Black people generally are not into 4x4s, and less so into overlanding. We prefer our city life now and the cars we buy nearly always a cultural expression in itself - if you have "arrived" as a BP, you'll drive a Mercedes or BMW and it should have a big sound system and fancy wheels. I am an exception (happily) and have for some reason always liked 4x4s, my pride and joy being a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which I've rigged for overlanding (well, not quite there yet) Also remember that Black people are a minority in the Western Cape (where Cape Town is) and 4x4 owners among them are few in number. I'm from Gauteng and as a member of a club, take part in weekend events.
      But please tell me - do indigenous Australians (the ones you haven't killed off :)) attend meet and greets, and 4x4 events in general?

    • @atamanatlas3098
      @atamanatlas3098 Před 4 lety

      @@thabonchu1568 Initially I thank you for your response and I was sincere, I don't know much about South Africa, that is why I asked. I was unaware that Black people were in a minority in the Western Cape, which makes sense to me now. However, your comment "do Indigenous Australians (The ones you haven't killed off:)) attend meet and greets and 4x4 events in general?" comes across both facetious and disingenuous. In fact, you know nothing about me or my background. I am not anglo - celtic and my ancestors were not the ones who committed genocide against the Indigenous people of Australia. I say genocide in the true sense of the word. If you apply the historical facts of what happened to Indigenous people to the UN definition of the offence, not only in Australia, but also throughout Africa, India, The United States and South America you will see it was European peoples that committed those atrocities. However, I am not here to discuss history or more appropriately historical facts. I was genuinely concerned (Read: inquisitive) as to why there were no Black Africans at the meet and greet, was it demographics (as you state a minority of the local population) , was it geography (as in distances involved in traveling) , was it they are not into 4X4's or overlanding (which you answered) or was it informal apartheid still being enforced. I accept prima facie your answers which clears things up in my mind but your last sentence ruined your entire post.

    • @thabonchu1568
      @thabonchu1568 Před 4 lety +4

      @@atamanatlas3098 Allow me to assure you that my reply was indeed facetious! I am sorry if I offended you in any way - from what I know about Australians, they enjoy a bit of a dig at each other, as much as we do! As far as 4x4-ing in South Africa goes, I've always been made to feel welcome at any of the events I attended - more so than in Australia and New Zealand where I recently visited. As for "informal Apartheid still being enforced" does it not strike you that perhaps your comment was disingenuous?
