2022 SW Road Trip 5 - Carlsbad Caverns 4k

On the 8th through 9th days of our 2022 Southwest roadtrip in September we drove from Taos Ski Valley to Carlsbad Caverns which was our turnaround point for the trip. Along the way we went through Santa Rosa to see the Blue Hole and stopped in Roswell at the Alien welcome sign. At the caverns we experienced the awesome Carlsbad Caverns bat flight where between 200,000 and 500,000 Brazilian free-tailed bats (we lost count at 30!) leave the cave in the evening for an evening of hunting. The next day we hiked down from the natural entrance to do the walking tour of the big room. Afterwards we went to White Sands National Park to see if it's possible to jack up an Escalade on gypsum sand (spoiler alert: it is). Then it's off to Las Cruces to buy some tires.
