it’s not the wires . If I even get a leaf on a panel it kinda kills the output of that whole panel
Sorry Jenna, winter hasn’t left your neck of the woods. Please don’t climb to the top of the ladder especially on ice/snow, if you slip who’s going to rescue you? Hooray for amps coming in 🥳 and the plow. Try to have a good weekend. Cheers 🍻✌🏻
I always keep a cell phone in my pocket just in case, haha. Have a great weekend also!
I would nail a horizontal board (2X4?) across the gable end of the roof at an appropriate height to lean the long ladder against, giving you access to both the solar panel and the chimney. You could make it more stable by strapping the ladder to the ladder rest with a bungee cord.
Watching from Florida; there are costs here too, like running from the hurricanes, high electric in summer, etc. Nice to watch you there in your cozy little abode. Very nicely outfitted. 😎
The joys of living off grid can definitely require a lot more work than those who are plugged in. You have this, love the way to troubleshoot. Thank you for sharing your daily life adventures with us. Stay safe, happy, warm and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
The trumpet and piano was a nice touch!!
That is a lot of snow. Bet it was freezing when you were out there shoveling. Thanks for sharing
Snow removal tip - I have used a push broom to clean off cars for years. Superfast. Get a 3 or 4 foot wide push broom and your done in a flash if it's not iced over. You could also get a pole that will fit the broom that has an extension to clean off your panels on the roof without using a ladder. 😀
Thank you for posting Jenna. I wondered if that last snow storm reached your area. I enjoyed your video, the forest is beautiful in the snow. Take care.
Winter is fun, definitely can turn in to survival mode. We got between 4 and 5 ft of snow in 24hrs Christmas Eve . Took 7 hrs to clear house roof and other buildings.. then driveway and paths.. been counting the days till spring since then. Lol Be careful with the wood stove and the hot coals.. heating with wood feels like a never ending task.
We got 12 inches out of that storm:( More coming Tuesday, just when our driveway is drying out.
Our first chore too, clearing the solar panels. The heavy snow frequently
unplug them.
Thoughts to ponder. Get some plastic pipe maybe 2 ten foot sections put together with a coupler and attach a good thick squeegee on one end so you can clean your solar panels off without having to climb a ladder. Using your creative skills, design a spray bottle with a pull handle to spray that can attach to your solar panel cleaner pole that has warm salt water to spray on the panels to melt the ice. The things I come up with might work, (maybe)
I've said it before, I'll say it again...Pump up the wheels on that rig and drag it down my way, I'll buy the first round! I did see the snowmobile and for a brief second I thought it was the ghost of Hilbert. 🐦🍻 Hang in there Gypsy, you got this!
Haha, the ghost of Hilbert sounds like my worst nightmare. I just gotta hope he stays away this Spring. He did disappear last year, hoping he flew off to torture someone else, haha.
Aw the joys of heating with wood everything is a tradeoff never let a setback slow you down . love your work
I live in Germany, in the Swabian Alps( Schwäbische Alb ) not far from Stuttgart. Sometimes there is more or less snow. This winter was extremely mild, almost without snow. Snow is a problem, but we have to live with it. It often falls at the end of April. In the Alps, Austria, it also falls at the end of May. Each car has eight tires (wheels). Four for summer and four for winter. Sometimes cars have tires for the whole year(all seasons tires), but I don't believe that's good. What is certain is that there has been less and less snow in the last forty years.
I am so glad I live in southern Arizona. We get snow but it is gone the next day.
Winters in Canada are a crap shoot. Lets hope this one is near done. Good luck to us all.
I know if your solar panel is partially covered or shaded it lowers the charge capacity. Weird. Common sense says you should have gotten some charge with yours.
Take care.
The snow was stoping voltage that carries amps the voltage has to be higher than the batterys to charge love the videos you are a inspiration to millions .
Solving the mystery of the on/off solar light inside the camper: The sensor saw the light and thought 'daytime' and turned out the light which made it think 'night time' and turned on the light, etc.
Same problem I have with my driveway. The plow pushes up my stone and I end up with big piles in the spring.
Replace the snow brush with a snow rake.
In winter I set my panels straight up so that the snow doesn't stay on them.
Close call with the ember...Yes,a sturdy 8ft ladder would be safer, you're up on the roof in summer too. Take care and have a good weekend Jenna 👍 it'll melt in a day or two
You're right, I think we are getting rain in a few days so that should either take care of it or create a slushy mess lol
I hope your managing to keep warm enough and take care
Hey Jenna! Yikes on that fire ember 😳. My goodness trying to stay warm up there can be hazardous. Stay safe girl. I live in a flood zone so that is my Achilles. We don't "flash" flood, as it takes 3 days for the river to rise but it's equally terrifying.
Oh yikes, that is scary! No flooding here, thankfully. Hopefully you don't have any flood issues anytime soon!
If you do have all that snow yearly I recommend putting the solar panel low enough so you don't have to use a ladder to clean it.
Oh how I can relate to this. I live in the Sierra Nevadas, and we got hit with so much snow. We lost so many trees it's been chaos.
Oh my goodness. I am sorry to hear. Hopefully it gets better for you there soon
@@gypsyjenna Thank you for your reply. Yes, it is much better.
Hello from northern Canada :) camper Jenna , you be careful with those sparks, looks like you have a beautiful little spot there, you would need a big stove to stay warm in a camper in my parts lol ! no I see you have it rigged up pretty nice skirt around the bottom that was a very smart choice :)
Jenna another great show 👍😀 thanks for sharing have a great day 😀

I just wanted to se some snow so I watched this again ☃️❄️
Hi jenna yes I’m very jealous of your snow. Think we get a dusting if where lucky.then it’s gone ☹️.and I live in Liverpool home to the Beatles uk 🇬🇧
It snowed. Amazing.
the solar panel it built with solar cells, that panel of your most likely has 60 cells to make up the hole panel. Each solar cell is in series all 60 of them, so if you block even one cell it can shut down all the power from the panel. hope this helps.
Great video Jenna
any part of the panel being covered up will render the panel virtually useless... The row where the wires are exiting the panel cause the panel to have an almost infinite electrical resistance causing the zero amps output... Maybe an idea to have a sweeper system which you can operate from below, some ropes, some pulleys and a diy broom of sorts which you can pull along the panel...
solar panels only work when every square inch is in the sunlight/light of day
Hi Jenna just came across your videos, great content fun to watch. I noticed you keep saying we in your videos but only see you?
I sure hope you stay warm pretty lady and safe and I hope you have enough power...I know you said you take your showers some where else in the winter months.....
I wonder if you can put heat tape or something on the solar panels to make them easier to clean?
There are probably some options but by the time I think of any, there is snow covering the panels, haha
Came across your video, watched and subscribed to your channel. Really enjoyed your video!
your flue pipe is melting snow above the solar might be why it iced up
Get your toboggan out , ah the memories . Love those insulated rubber boots good for -40 kinda. Nice to hear from you again.
Haha yes they do still require some warm socks, thankfully we don't deal with -40 much at all here
I'd suggest looking to see if the wires might have a cracked in them.. might be shorting out . Just an idea. I insulated my wires this fall to help protect them from moisture and freezing
Nice video...... You look like you are doing real good.
I couldn't imagine dealing with all that snow on a regular basis...we rarely get snow here...but our summers are brutal most of the time...
We are actually lucky when it comes to snow, other places get it much worse but I just really...really don't like it lol
I try to set up my place so there's a minimum of digging-out to do to perform my daily activities. I like to be set up so I can take days to "dig out" or wait for roads to be plowed. I'd love to be far enough out to need a snowmobile to get to town!
Snow's more of an issue to me, now, I admit, but when I was young, it just meant you changed to different sports.
The house type roof above the camper is very cool,is it hollow up top or insulated?besides the snow insu ?
Insulate it silly, heat rrrises....or bubble wrap your ceiling🤐,besides my input i think you are very intelligent camping wise. Good luck n stay warm.
U know, could it be that it is the top of the panels where the wires are that generate the electric? Hum! will have to do more research on that. Maybe insulate the wires? Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day.
Awesome !!
Nice little setup there … 👍🏻
@@gypsyjenna I wanna just get myself a small piece of property and do something similar. Of course the shop will be humongous 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
I would not climb up that ladder 🪜. I would get a long pipe with a scraper attached to stand on the ground and pull the snow off . Safety first
But the best thing is you don’t have those door knocker’s when you want peace and quiet.
Howdy, fun adventures with the snow and stuff...
How about some hot coco for the plower and some kind of signage to ask for a bit higher plowing to prevent the moving of the gravel...
Mhmmm, skillful means~
Win win... or leave a thermal and see if they just want to pour themselves some hot liquid...
Any chance in creating a heated pipe system to take the heat you generate to defrost the snow on all the areas you find... mhmmm, warm water... but would you need a water pump for faster circulation...?
You can make it so you are able to turn it on & off (pipe flapper thingy... lol)
Cheers!
// yeesh~ I'm glad you didn't burn down... lol, life is too short to deal with all this craziness...
Invest in a snow blower or a blower , I love your set though, totally awesome!
That type has to be cleared it will black the power your cleaning It is power from top to bottom you had them all blocked
maybe where sensor was
Another storm coming next week, I am your western neighbor from Bangor Maine area.
So beautiful 😍🥶🥶
i have a home in gresham or. we got your snow, what the hell, how did you do that? my son wants to pitch tuk, lazy (cat) outside would have looked cool for a picture ,cat is black and white
_
Word !
And you said yesterday, Spring was right around the corner. Must be a big corner. If it’s going to hit Chicago and Detroit, you’re probably going to get hit.
If you would go get you an extended paint pole handle you probably wouldn't even have to get up on the ladder to clean your solar panels
But wait! There's more!!!
SNOW RAKE!
Good 👍😊
Price of the luxury of living there, we NEED the precip, get used to it.
😊😊😊😊😊
Where ya at?
You should buy yourself the 8ft ladder because you're on top of the six-foot-one if you had the 8-foot letter you would be right where you're supposed to be you're not supposed to stand on top or the second one down anyway we all do it be careful
Good idea. I'm a little too frugal sometimes but one of these days it may really cost me if you know what I mean lol
if you can get some heavy rope and a friend, you guys might be able to pull off the snow a bit easier. had this in idaho and my roof collapsed before we could get it all off.
Try rubbing alcohol on car windows defrosts faster.
Thats not very safe standing on the top rung of that ladder🤔
We’re spoiled because we live in the Philippines no snow🇵🇭
Did you remember to eat breakfast before doing all that work?😂❤
Please never stand on the vary top of your ladder ! Vary dangerous. Stay safe. May the good Lord watch over you and your family. Peace and Love.
nice ❤
and there more snow coming this weekend and we are in Michigan.
@@gypsyjenna same here we do to. Can't wait for the warmer weather comes.
Nekadar güzel doğa ve doğa olayları ile baş başa kalmak, onu yaşamak ve hissetmek.Bayılırım.Böööyle tüğlerim dikkken dikkken olur✨😆✨HARKULADE✨🙏✨
It's a healthy chicken soup day. Everytime you get on the step ladder my heart cringes wish you had a regular ladder be careful please
Oi hey neighbor!!!!
Ok am I missing somethin
Schönes Wetter 😅
Without storm windows it impossible to heat those trailer in CANADIAN winters. AND propane gives off water too much moisture.
🇹🇷💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍
omg you freak me out when you stand on the top of the ladder. You obviously had lots of practise.😵💫😵💫
Don't like the weather where you live? Then move.
Jenna up there keeping all the snow for herself.
Can't share it with the rest of us..
alot of complaining.
Is the snow unusual for your area? So much complaining about snow and having to clear it again? That’s what snow is why do you live there then
Lately it's unusual, I live on the coast. Probably the second warmest place next to Vancouver in Canada..yes I dislike snow and the future goal would be to avoid it in winters if possible. Just not feasible right now
You're kind of complaining right now. But it's all good, I'm not gonna complain about it.. lol
Jenna, the solar cells on the panel are connected in series and paralel, just 1 cell covered in snow in 1 corner can affect the whole panel, same whit shade, try keep it clean and whitout shades and u will have better production always. So imagine the ones connected in series, when it is covered,it doesnt let electricity through, its like a switch,it turns off the whole panel completely,it has nothing to do whit the wires behind.I hope this helps, love U girl:)
Ok thanks for the info, it seemed strange to me, I hadn't seen that before!
@@gypsyjennaq
Great knowledge!!! I will always keep that in mind...rite now I have a very small system 200 watts of panels and a 500 watt 66 amp hour solar battery for my minivan no build camper ! Thank you for sharing!
Not to mention that if there are any exposed connections, the snow could short the panel.
Was going to say the same thing.
My husband said maybe the top was the start of the series.
