I loved coming home from school and curling up on the couch with a snack and watch this show, as the warm wind blew the front porch door in my face.

Mom let me watch an hour of tv in the afternoons. I remember this well. Thanks for posting. Brings back other memories. I'm a little nostalgic sometimes. (Boomer born in 1953). The theme song popped into my head today, as other things do from time to time with all of us, inexplicably. I sang part of the song for my wife and asked if she remembered it. She didn't, but she laughed and understood because I sing and whistle to myself, and she also likes an occasional walk down Memory Lane. We don't pine for our childhood years, but it's fun to "visit" them sometimes.

I saw this on Sally Starr's Popeye Theater here in Philadelphia when I was in third grade back in 1966. I even sang along to the theme song as well.

What a brilliant show! So enjoyable. We have lost the spirit of these groundbreaking shows which didn't treat kids like kids, but kids who were on their way to becoming adults....

In New York (on WOR-TV), a daily "FUNNY COMPANY" show featured Morty Gunty as host.

I knew I recognized that voice of the old guy in the cartoon. He is Hal Smith, aka Mr. Whitaker in Focus on the Family's Adventures in Oddysey. But what is Hal Smith most famous for? He is Otis on the old Andy Griffith show,

As a 1956-born Boomer, I enjoyed this trip down memory lane. The Funny Company was education wrapped in wholesome, nice-natured fun. Is the tarantula voice the same voice as the Frito Bandito?
The Funny Company probably would not be made today. If it were made today, the president would probably be a girl or there would be no president, and there would be no Super Chief. Some today will maintain that this cartoon is culturally insensitive or non-inclusive or such. In my view, a closer look gives a different picture: 1) The Super Chief is as welcome as anyone, as is the older gentleman. 2) The song lyric is "where kids in every neighborhood belong," 3) In the mid 1960s, the USA's Hispanic and Asian populations were a fraction of what they are today, so their absence is to be expected, 4) The show includes an obese character at a time when childhood obesity was much less common and was more often stigmatized, 5) People are offended by things today that were unimaginable when the cartoon was created.
The Funny Company is sweet, clever, very nicely done. As with anything else, those who insist on being critical should consider a matter's historical context.

Nunca vi un negro en esta caricatura, había animales hablando y un indio que nunca se le permitió hablar, pero jamas apareció un dibujo animado que interpretara a un negro. Me parece que esta serie era racista.
