Classic Game Room HD reviews VIRTUA FIGHTER 3 for Sega Dreamcast from 1999, also known as 3tb, as in "Team Battle". This is an example of an awesome Dreamcast game that may have gotten better with age. Back in '99 we were all talking about Soulcalibur and DOA2 on the Dreamcast instead of Virtua Fighter 3th.... thirth! This overlooked gem belongs in any Sega fan's arsenal of virtua fighter games because the gameplay is solid, smooth and predictably virtua awesome. It includes a characters not seen in the excellent Virtua Fighter 2 and has improved visuals and backgrounds that are far superior to anything that the Saturn could deliver. Virtua Fighter 3 is sure to please fans of the series, even if the Dreamcast controller is a bit awkward for arcade and fighting games. Pick up this excellent budget Dreamcast game today and kick some virtua ass. This CGR review of Virtua Fighter 3 on Sega Dreamcast has gameplay from Virtua Fighter 3tb on Dreamcast showing Virtua Fighter 3 TB game play in HD action. - Zábava
This game looked amazing in 1996 when this came out in arcades.
It's even better on Dreamcast, but when it came out on Dreamcast, it didn't get much attention. Virtua Fighter 3 is so overlooked.
Retro Gaming Guitarist What do you mean? :V the graphics and sound got downgraded in the Dreamcast port, it wasn't even ported by AM2 but instead by Genki in just 6 months!
To this day nothing beats VF3tb on Model 3, i hope we get an arcade perfect port one day.
I hoped for an arcade perfect port oof VF3tb in Yakuza Kiwami 2, but they cheapened out and gave us VF2 again. Meh.
Takehaniyasubiko Makes sense considering how easy emulating model 2 is for them fun fact: the guy who made the Model 2 emulator in pc was hired by SEGA to handle emulationg for Model 2 games, thanks to this the pc emulator is abandoned.
I know it's easy for them. That's why Yakuza Kiwami 2 has two Model 2 games, but VF2 is way too outdated and we already had it in Yakuza 5. They really cheapened out with this one. They should have put some effort into this. Oh well, they've been shitting on the VF franchise for ages now, so it's not like I'm surprised. Just sad.
I recommend playing Virtua Fighter 3 with the Dreamcast arcade stick (HKT-7300). When playing Virtua Fighter 3 with the HKT-7300, set A to guard, X to punch, Y to kick and the rest of buttons to no use.
HAPPY 20th Anniversary Virtua Fighter!!
Virtua Fighter 3 is kinda of the "Lost Game" of the series. Back in the day I don't remember seeing the game in magazines or the like. I had a Dreamcast, if I knew of this game back then I would have bought it. I kick myself for not knowing sooner, because VF3 is awesome! Virtua Fighter 3 is a Dreamcast game that deserves at least more attention.
I remember the time I played this at the arcade........I was able to beat Dural.AND THAT WAS THE ONLY ARCADE GAME I WAS ABLE TO BEAT.Virtua Fighter 3tb is the most epic game in the VF series.
my first ever game on first ever console, Sega dream cast.
This game is underrated and to think that further graphical improvements would have helped the game sell more , to sold less that 100,000 copies in north america and 300,000 plus in japan it should have at least sold 1 million worldwide
Just the arcade graphics would have helped a lot, but this port was rushed as hell being made in just 6 months and not even by AM2 but instead by Genki there wasn't enough time to get a good port.
Fans love the game because there is an insane amount of depth added to the fighting with only 3 buttons.
Actually there are 4 buttons. The fourth is called the dodge button and it's used for side step maneuvers.
This is one my favorite games in the series. It feels VF2 and I love the levels.
VF4 and VF5 are fun, but I wish the levels were a little more creative like this game.
Same, VF3tb also has a bunch of easter eggs like flying trains, a snowman in the desert, Lau's portrait replaced with a dev cosplaying him, secret taunts and other wack stuff, this game had a lot creativity put in to it, sadly the Dreamcast port doesn't make it justice in terms of visuals and sound, i hope one day we get an arcade perfect port of this amazing game.
I wish more fighting games would have uneven terrain or obstacles, it makes 3D fighters more interesting IMO
That’s why I’ve always felt like VF4 was a step backwards somehow.
Agreed! I feel Dead or Alive is the only 3D fighter series that still fully utilizes 3D space like this
I use to always go to the arcade to play this, loved this game
Lord..."Virtua Fighter 3th" cracked me up so hard the first time he said it.
LOL the "thirth" and the wind sound are so awesome.
this looks like the best VF ever. Maybe thats because I love the Dreamcast so much. There is no other system that has the feel and look of the Dreamcast.
It still is the best to this day
I'm definitely going up to digital press up in Jersey this summer and picking up one of the copies I saw there
this guy is a certified virtuaholic, awesome!
I liked Wolf's, Lion's, Shun's stages and thought Sarah looked pretty good too.
this on the model 3 in the arcade was amazing!"
Virtua fighter is freaking hard!
Nearly forgot about this game; hopefully there'll be more Dreamcast reviews coming up!
VF 3th! The good ol' days.
this was my first dreamcast game :'-)
VF my first 3D fighting game in sega satrun
can't wait VF5R !
Nice review, you should do virtua fighter 4 evolution here soon
this game was great on dreamcast back then! wish it had online
this review is awesome....im a HUGE fan of virtua fighter.....i have the first and the second on the sega saturn!! :D
Dreamcast was way ahead of its time!
I want to play this game so badly again because of Sarah's voice and alternate outfit! I miss this Sarah Bryant!!!
Virtua Fighter 3 is still the best fighting game ever. Way better than Tekken or Soul Calibur.
+Ujdul Ujdaae I can't believe how fucken great the Dreamcast is period. Borrowed my buddies old one and have been having a blast. The n64 and PS1's and ps2's fighter library stunk in comparison.
+AnnoyingReply Saturn as well. Sega was always mad underrated. I've always preferred them over Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
eh
Nah
Call me crazy, but I actually like/prefer Virtua fighter 3 over Virtua fighter 2. I thought the gameplay was solid and faster, you can actually sidestep now, I thought the graphics weren't that bad (actually good in my opinion), I love the 3D stage layout platform designs in VF3 (I think this is what inspired Tekken 4 with their similar 3D stages as well), I felt that the AI was a lot easier this time compared to the first two VF games (There have been times that I could never get past Pai or Lion in VF2), and the fight with Dural at the end is way better than VF2's bonus fight were you fight underwater and in slow motion. In VF3, she's fast and furious! Also, I liked that they mixed up the battle order this time oppose to previously fighting the exact same opponents in the exact same order every time in the first two games. In my opinion, Virtua fighter 3 was a step up from Virtua fighter 2 (as amazing that game may be to many hardcore fans); and it's one of my personal favorites in the series.
You're so true about the controller! I am - and always will be - a saturn style controller person. Thank God you can get it for pc, so emulation gets real :)
@ProtoMario thank you! i knew i was not alone!
Dreamcast and Virtua Fighter.....Good mix :D
good game to pass the time with friends while you wait for a cab or that pizza you phoned up for
the dreamcast gave us ideas for the games with have today remember that
What is the best all around controler? that wound be a interesting video to post up, in my opinion.
Virtua Fighter series is very under rated hopefully we get a new installment soon.
@Blaxot THANK YOU
Your right, this game still looks dam good :o)
i love this game
My friend thought it said 3th on the box and we discussed how stupid it was, but I learnt it was TB when I looked at the instruction maual.
Hey mark if you had to pick a favorite character from any of the virtua fighter games which would it be mine is jean kojo I don't know if he is in any other games but I started playing the new version of vf5 on xbla and he quickly became my favorite over Kane and akira
The SegaNet keyboard and mouse was a must for FPS's yeah
Moar Dreamcast reviews please! I'm going to buy one and need to see what games are worth picking.
Ah haha. at the "Sultry" part with Sarah's VS portrait. That was random.
@Brandonapprove PS2, PS3 controller or the Genesis controller, in my opinion. What about you?
I noticed your point about the DC controller, some third parties made 6 button Dreamcast controllers, the extra buttons are usually just the triggers, so it lets you have a similar experience. (Usually though the extra buttons area centimeter below the original 4x button group, so its still not the same -_-;)
The best Virtua Fighter for me. :)
This game is BRAND new and sealed on ebay for only £3.75.. I don't even have a dreamcast (will get one pre-owned eventually) and I had to buy this!
5 years later did you get one?
The price went up on EBay in 2022! The Neo Geo system and Games are extremely expensive! 😬😬
This game needs to be in a Dreamcast Classic re-released console if it'll happen along with Power Stone 1, Power Stone 2, Zombie Revenge, and Mortal Kombat Gold.
@alexneszmer well, i like the ps2, gamecube and wii classic pro, but the snes and sega controllers were also good considering the type of games that were playable on their consoles.
Still my favourite VF
I have all 3 versions. Saturn, Dreamcast, Game Gear, the Sports edition of the Dreamcast. Only major things im missing is the Nomad =(.
I absolutely love my Sega Dreamcast, IMOP the graphics stay very true to the virtual fighter genre. The gameplay is just like the arcade version of the virtua fighter so not much disappointment for me in this game. a whole lot of fun to play.
long live to dreamcast !!! XD
I remember VF3's graphics being pretty much the best in gaming when the arcade machine came out.
You're exactly right that it appears to have aged well. I remember that I was a bit disappointed with this game when it came out, but then I saw this and I didn't know why. But that's right...it was competing with Dead Or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur, which seemed a generational leap ahead of this game, even if this seems nearly a generational leap over Virtua Fighter 2 (which despite that is still my favorite of the series).
one thing that really surprised me back then is how sega farmed out such flagship title to third party developer genki.
i had to make sure and come here. My version of the game (which is a ripped ISO And must be a NTSC US version) plays in slow motion on my Pal console...
it's probably 30% slower...
Does it make sense?
Ive always thought that but as much as I love both I can help thinking that he VF characters would just be juggled infinately till there death, tekkens a much more flashy game
5:38 the guys pecks flex lol
I like Pai's outfit, minus the hat.
now that the greybar doesnt auto-pop when moving my mouse close to it it aint rly that bad.
To get rid of that annoying grey bar delete the "&" in "1&videos". Thumbs up and spread the word!
lmao face plant@ 2:30
OMG YOU HAVE A DREAMCAST?!
I somehow smell the Dreamcast 2 is cooking now
Very true about the controller. When it comes to fighting games, the Saturn controller (and the Genesis 6-button) is superior to the Dreamcast joypad. If I were the samurai warlord in charge of bringing back the DC, I'd probably redesign that controller to bring it back in line with the Saturn (mk2) design.
Can you play with Lord Karnage in this game??
dont you like have a dreamcast arcade stick, mark?, don't know how that would work with virtra fighter though
i know its called classic games room but i dont think anybody would be mad if u did up to date reviews too lol
I want a vectrex port
I believe Shadowman is by far the creepiest game ever made. The weirdness and the atmosphere combined with the great gameplay and controls is still something that Silent Hill and RE has NEVER been able to capture. I mean, you have a gun that shoots souls which make evil zombie creatures actually scream end explode into chunks, and all of the voodoo elements, and having having a buddy who is a snake with a human skull for a head, wearing a top hat, speaking with a scottish accent... awesome!
@Blaxot Thanks for the info, I don't need youtube shitty bar popping up.
@Brandonapprove The gamecube controller :D
@sutjas16 Same here. I mainly like the genesis controller because it works with so many other systems. Their both good though.
I dont know about you guys but i think the DC controller for fighting games is the best period out of any console to date! but thats just me and it is also pretty good for shooting games as well!, although i have been modernized and am use to how fps games are played on xbox and xbox 360 and such so going back to archaic control's is some what of a leaning curve again but non the less still awesome! thank you Sega! for making one of the greatest consoles of all time! Dreamcast lives on!
Oh come on, Mark! Virtua Fighter 3tb kicks ass? Well, you're right but you could have just said that the Dreamcast kicks ass!
The good old days.*sigh*
did you kno in all the games the ends of some combos sound like stuff from tekken
Rofl 2:30 but i must disagree i really enjoy the xbox controller over a lot of other ones. My favorite controller is the Gamecube, i absolutely hate the wii mote and the psone,2,3 controllers they feel way too lite and rough. Rounding it out really makes it feel good. I way prefer the Xbox controller and even have one for my controller.
@1ex1uger He is probably talking about spaceship shooters like Mars Matrix and Fast Striker.
cool
If these reviews have made you want to buy a dreamcast like it did for me... make sure you read the description or you get a broken one +9 games that you can't play. :)
@ThrashMetalForces Yes. Yes it does.
that because another company made the port not sega or am2, in fact the dreamcast is more powerful that the model 3 hardware
To get rid of that annoying grey bar delete the "&" in "1&videos" in the URL. Thumbs up and spread the word!
@Kulawendin THey see me trollin' =w=
I can't remember but I don't think this game had online support well any way they should port this one to the 360 arcade put in some online multi player some hd as well and we'll be set.
@gamesDAMNED i liked the dreamcast controller the only thing i'd do if i were releasing it again would be to make two versions of the controller one with triggers and the other with an extra 2 face buttons
I remember playing a Dreamcast version, which was not TEAM BATTLE version... I remember the stage of Taka Arashi not being at sunset time, but morning... And Jeffry's island was daytime... Is my memory mixing something up?
Dude... You can easily pick the vanilla 3 stages in 3tb by holding start and selecting the stage, if you wait until the time runs out while not letting go of start you can play the Dural versions with different music, almost all stages have 3 different variants to choose from, this feature is also available in the Model 3 arcade version and the graphics look even better! Not bad for a 1997 game.
Ps home august 2010 review !!
Now is OLD SCHOOL to play 2player games in the smae TV lol
They couldnt port the 3 on saturn, so in turn we got fighters megamix.
hey how about reviewing LEGEND OF DRAGOON for ps1?
wow...the difference between 3 and 4 graphically is crazy. pretty much on the same level of hardware power, too.
TV-Y?
9.9.99! Dreamcast's North American release date!
@KRbertsproduck5 not on ebay... :I
@NCloud he already has :D
As you were saying it wasn't eye candy I was just saying in my head that thought it looked really good lol. Its leaps and bounds better than Soul Blade (Soul Edge) but Soul Edge is probably older too.
TB stands for Tuberculosis lol
