- Beginning with Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo introduced new voice actor who will replace legendary Charles Martinet who was giving his voice to our beloved moustache Italian plumbers. Let's compare these voices and see if Kevin Afghani will manage to deliver cult classic experience!

His Luigi voice is much different than Charles' but that's not necessarily bad or anything, Luigi's voice has changed a lot as Charles has gotten older. Sounds like some of Charles' early renditions of Luigi.
I feel like if they pitched down Afghani’s voice just a bit it would sound closer to Martinet’s.

He kinda sounds like n64/early Gamecube luigi where they didn't know how he should sound yet. Infact im here after searching up smash melee Luigi lines since they are just pitched up Mario 64 lines. I like this voice for him, oddly familiar with the past rendition yet still a bit recognizable from the norm

He did a good job, although he made Luigi a bit too overjoyed for my taste, if I'm nitpicky.
I’d say it works, Mario Wonder is so expressive compared to NSMB’s animations. Fits pretty well for some badge actions
Tbf they prob directed him to be more like that rather than he himself choosing it.
I don't mind that it changed, and I like it has MORE character direction, but at the same time now it sounds more like some cartoon in syndication. You can sort of hear more about who he is and that he's FROM somewhere, through the nuance in the accent. A bit like the Canadian dub to DBZ or the English voice in Xenoblade.
The character direction doesn't stand out next to Mario and it sounds more like people pretending to be twins, than actual twins. The exact thing you'd want to hear to distinguish a whole different person. This is a deep cut but exactly the arc of Hikaru and Kaoru in Ouran high School Host Club. Of course that was easier to achieve with different voice actors.
I would NEVER hear a pitch shifted Martinet and mistake one characer for another. They all stand out as their separate characters.

His Mario voice is pretty spot on, but his Luigi voice is noticeably different. I wonder if that was Nintendo's intention to give Luigi a noticeably different voice from Mario.
It's still good, but obviously a lot different from what Luigi has been.
I think it also sounds spot on. He makes Mario and Luigi sound younger which makes perfect sense because they're only 25 years old
Considering the age gap between Martinet and Afghani, I don't think Afgani 'tried' to make Luigi sound younger. I think it's just the natural outcome because Afghani IS younger.

luigi definitely sounds younger with the new voice actor. its not bad, but its more noticeable with luigi than it is with mario.

I don't hear any difference between Charles' Luigi voice nor Kevin's Luigi voice, so Kevin's voice for Luigi is pretty much spot on.

Yeah I think it's pretty clear that Mario, Luigi and Wario all sound "younger" with Kevin voicing them now.

Kevin Afgani has a more younger version of Luigi, being more enthusiastic and energetic with his voice. At the same time it also sounds like a mixture of Martinet’s Luigi and his Older long forgotten voice actor.

Luigi is one of my favorite characters, so I can’t say I’m a fan of the much more noticeable change to his voice than Mario’s. I loved Luigi’s old, nerdy, quirky voice. This new one sounds way too tryhard, like a cringy kids’ cartoon character, not an endearing and genuinely funny character loved by the whole family. Really hope this changes to sound more like the real Luigi in the coming years…

I don't know why people hate on his Luigi. I think his Luigi sounds better than his Mario... yeah, some clips sound worse than others, but when his Mario clips sound off... they're REALLY off.

Charles earned his retirement. Can't expect him to voice the characters forever. Kevin's doing an excellent job, as well. Giving his own rendition on these characters, while retaining the essence of their voices.
It's reminiscent of Kermit the Frog. Kermit's gone through several actors, and each one brings something to the table. It's hard to say any of them do it "wrong" even if nobody will ever "be" Jim Henson.
I think Kevin's voice acting will grow on the fanbase. It's weird to experience change, but this is an excellent casting, and he's got the right energy. Once people get over that feeling of "wait, mario sounds different from normal" I think they'll really grow to appreciate and love Kevin's work. I'm looking forward to seeing how he builds his voices for these characters!

When will we get to know more about Kevin Afghani? I would not like it if he is reclusive as it wouldn’t be right for him to be that way considering how public and nice of a guy Charles Martinet is. Well I have sent him an email politely asking him to please tell me more about himself by telling me anything he is comfortable with sharing about himself as well as asking him some questions (20 in total admittedly) such as if he ever met Charles Martinet and if he is a fan of any other video games franchises other then the Mario series. (From what little we know about him at the current time we do know he is a fan of the Mario series) I often have bad luck getting any Mario voice actor to respond to me (Scott Burns being the only exception) but maybe I will get lucky as I just want to do a sort of interview with him so that we know what he is like as a person.

Too much credit to Kevin Afghani. Doesn’t sound any better than a random guy on the street. He has no chest voice, especially important to keep Luigi’s reserved nature; it’s how Martinet made Luigi.
