2 Designers Transform The Same Walmart Lawn Chair | Custom Crafted | Architectural Digest

- čas přidán 29. 05. 2024
- We gave a pair of designers with very different styles one day to completely transform the same folding lawn chair, turning one of the most familiar furniture items in the world into something more personalized and expressive. Furniture designer Alex Hsu operates with a thoughtful, playful and craft-focused philosophy while artist and furniture maker Lauren Verdugo describes her work as sculptural, functional, and sustainable. Which directions will inspiration lead our designers when they turn their eyes towards redesigning a classic outdoor furniture piece?

If this was made into a full length show I'd never miss an episode...
Check out the show Flea Market Flip, it is somewhat similar
Right?
Yeah, this should be a show. 100%!
agreed!!
Ellen's next great designer was like this but didn't last very long.
Both of the chairs came out beautiful. I loved how honest they were too, they were made more for aesthetic then comfort. I'm amazed at how this could all be done in a day.
THAN
The last scene of them enjoying each other’s work is so wholesome
YOU'RE wholesome.
I love how they did such similar things, but ended up with such drastically different end results!
Thank you to everyone that has shown our chairs and this video some love!
This was so refreshing and interesting, seeing two people passionate about what they do
Oh its such an intelligent, refresshing and intresting video,it totally changed my life and the way i look on things.Human courage is increadible and amazing.
Given they are designers they both might want to look into new glasses lmao especially the woman. God those clear glasses are hideous.
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep who are you?
My mom is a designer and every single chair in her house is impossible to sit in, but it looks amazing there interior-wise.
That doesn't sound too functional
@@adamharris5003 form > function
@@LucyTheLightbringer
Not always.
@@adamharris5003 Welcome to the world of design!
@@adamharris5003 There's a reason that some chairs from designers like Arne Jacobsen and Marcel Breuer become classics, because they find a way to marry form and function. It's very hard to do. And often the chair is considered the ultimate challenge for a furniture designer because there's only so many ways to make a chair both beautiful and comfortable.
Thanks so much for watching! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them!
Can you tell me where my keys are?
@@jonhohensee3258 you threw them out with the garbage.
@@sazennonumber - Ummm... you are not Alex.
Alex, one question regarding the cork, if that's okay. In your experience, does the cork still crumble after it's glued to a surface? I was going to use cork for a project, but I wasn't sure if it would crumble.. Thank you.
@@sazennonumber NO, it's NOT okay. OKAY???
Lauren's chair wins imo, it looks so much more comfortable and it folds perfectly. Amazing job.
why thank you!
I love how positive & respectful of each other they were.
Thank you!
It was so satisfying to see them both go through the same process at the same time, nicely edited! And i loved both results
Both of these chairs were creative takes on the original. For me, though, I'd have to go with that gorgeous wooden beauty Lauren made. Holy chatoyance!
She describes the armrests mistakes the way I would describe putting eyeliner on.
More of this content please, this is so refreshing to watch on AD
I LOVE these challenges of designers taking accessible items and making them bespoke designer pieces with thoughtful details.
Very inspirational
Thank you!!! Please make more challenges like these
This video is fantastic! I loved seeing two artists interpret a project on their own and compare. I really appreciated the intelligent discussion about art and design, and the artist's personal viewpoint. This was an excellent video, and I hope you make more like this in the future.
I love how positive you guys are of one another's projects!!! Both are awesone❤
I love this series so much, it's so educational to see the artist's intention and technique as they make it
A combo of both these approaches would be awesome. I really like Lauren's seat and armrests, and they look more comfortable to me.
I really like the look of the slats Alex made, and the saddle washers, and I think they make a really nice back.
What a pleasant way to spend a quarter-hour. Two lovely people, cool designers with great ideas, beautifully executed.
Both these chairs are so so good. If I had to choose one, I would probably have to choose Alex's quirky cork and laminate chair, just love the quirkiness and artiness of it, a statement chair. But I love the arm rests on Lauren's chair, the rounded edges and the grain, just gorgeous.
Wow, this video was a masterclass in creativity! It's incredible to see how Alex and Lauren, with their different approaches, both managed to breathe new life into a simple folding chair. It goes to show that inspiration truly has no limits. Can't wait for more collabs like this! 👏🛋🎨
Both are fantastic ideas that showcase the designer’s creativity and thoughtfulness. Now I’m eyeing my old lawn chairs with some ideas to transform them!
Don't do it.
I’d love to see a group of designers transform an all-white space into whatever they want!
OH MY! This was so good! Totally inspired!
Please make more of these "2 Designers Transform" videos!!!!
11:48-12:03: I love listening to professionals discussing their craft
This was such a great episode, love both these artisans. Both chairs are beautiful. Alex’s chair is reminiscent of a mid century aesthetic, very hip. And Lauren’s is warm and sleek.
Appreciate both of their work but for me in love with Lauren's chair, wowzers
I’d love more of these segments, showcasing all these talented and innovative artists
Both turned out really great! I like how they were learning from each other at the end.
They're both so, so talented!
My favourite part of this is the reveal. Both Artists did a stunning job. Wow. They were boring to listen to (explaining their processes of working), but their end pieces are BEAUTIFUL!! And they were very sweet with each other, which counts for a LOT in my book. I'm very impressed. Really lovely creations and both of them are talented craftspeople.
Absolutely LOVE the way Alex used the laminate samples 😍😍😍
Please do more videos like this!! I really enjoyed it! They both did amazing work 👏 👏
Sometime it’s good just to have a conversation piece
I loved both designs….but honestly the woo was my favorite. What a new pickup line….’want to make some sawdust’. How cute
The woo???
@@jonhohensee3258 Maybe he’s talking about Alex and just can’t spell his name? Good question
Two great designers with the synergy of possitive thoughts and ideas. Lovely piece, AD..
possitive?
Wow, those workshops are beautiful, love the tool selection. 💖👍
Love the chairs so unique beautiful craft work 😍 👌
I really enjoyed this. Not even for the design challenge but just to see the approach to woodworking. Seemed almost identical for both designers.
I think it is because we both were formally trained in woodworking! It was nice to not play a "DIYer" role :)
Lauren’s chair was beyond beautiful, she used all the ideals she designs by and the result was just beautiful. I think her chair would be comfortable, she took time out to create curves that would make it comfortable. His chair is merely for looks, a plant holder or something like that.
these 2 seem like some of the chillest ppl of all time
This was really cool. I'd give my vote to his chair because he was more venturing into different materials and it came out more interesting.
She was playing on a safe bet with just slabs and natural beauty of rosewood. Definitely more beautiful chair and more comfortable, but dead simple.
YOU'RE simple.
I’m first impressed they got the chairs to fold. Secondly I’m impressed with how quickly they got it done. Thirdly even though I personally don’t like their designs, I love how creative the designs are. I would buy these chairs for no other reason than the fact that they are different. Finally I think this is a great idea for someone who wants to play around with any medium. All the ergonomics and mechanics are there’s you can design around them.
Lauren Verdugo won the contest in my opinion. Very pretty result.
Was it a contest?
@@jonhohensee3258 Sort of a contest simply because people have opposing opinions. The main reason for these 2 folks doing their own unique designs was to see their unique results.
@@curtischildress9580 WRONG
@@jonhohensee3258 OK. We all have opinions. You'll discover this fact as you journey through life. Enjoy!
@@curtischildress9580 Some opinions have more value than others.
please post more these transformation furniture piece. amazing!!!!
impressed. You can tell they really love their craft.
the original and the finished project chairs are beautiful!
Love seeing this kind of applied creativity. Great video!
This should honestly be a series
Oh my! My hat off to you both! It's so nice to see young people design and create art!
this was AMAZING, please more of this stuff
Loved this! I’d love to see more videos like this.
this series is the best!
I love how it shows a range of crativity and possibility so respectfully towards the designers and the original product
awww.... Love love love the unveiling part. so sweet. both pieces are amazing. it's interesting to watch and the suspense is real :)
Not only did I find this video interesting, but I also appreciate how it shows the time required to make a custom piece.
Love both chairs but I think im gonna go with Lauren's one. Simple yet effective design, seems very combortable. I love the colors Alex used for his but the surface would feel uncomfortable if i was to sit wearing shorts lol
Thank you! haha
Both are made equally incredible!!!
Hats off to these designers..
This was cool, I wouldn't mind seeing you guys work with like a week or a month of time but that's more involving to be certain.
These are fabulous!! I would definitely watch this as a series 🙌♥️
They were both so fantastic!
Great chairs, both of them. Especially considering a deadline. Well done Lauren and Alex!
I have been binging these videos. They are great! I love the support the artists give each other, I love the cool projects they come up with. Great concept!
Wow! What skills and creative chairs. More.
Oh, Lauren's chair is so amazing. I wanna do it myself too.
🤗
Wow! You are Both So Talented!
I Enjoyed your video very much!
Thanks! 🙂
Both chairs are fabulous! I love both of their approaches. Great content.
you gotta make more 2 designers videos
I love both projects!
Fantastic! This was a lot of fun to watch artists/craftsmen do their thing! Two beautiful end results!
I really love these challenges please keep em comings & salute to both of them I liked both chairs each one is unique
Love this video! Absolutely would have that natural wooden chair, but the slat chair also had some interesting features - like the cork!
Both turned out beautiful!! 💗
These are two very talented designers!
Beautiful work on both sides! Thanks.
Both creative and beautiful. You two have so much talent. I have a few of those chairs that really need an upgrade, but since I don't have all those wonderful tools will have to use the good old sewing machine.
Satisfying to watch, inspiring for the future. Thx for your efforts & creations.
Keep doing this series!! Sooo good!
Lauren is very endearing. Alex also. They should film more stuff together if they haven't already
Love these videos! Beautiful work 👏
These two are very talented. Bravo 👏
Suchhh a cool challenge concept! Would definitely love to see more of these. Amazing job to both designers!
The two chair is beautiful!
Two lovely, talented people x
You guys did an awesome job 👌
Amazing to watch parallel executions,
with tremendous results by both. 2-thumbs up for both Alex and Lauren, and of course AD-for a video well made! (Do some more!)
I loved this. What lovely people.
This was so great! I loved hearing the reasons behind what they did.
More of those videos pls 🙏☺️
What a fun episode! Thank you! Would love to see more like this one.
Beautiful
Everything about this episode was enjoyable to watch
Me encantó el resultado de ambos. 😍
Very talented young folks ❤
Love them both
whoever came up with this series at AD needs a raise
They both seem so wholesome and I hope they become best friends for life.
This seems like such a fulfilling project, loved it!
