    great video and a really good look into wheels! this is what people used to do back in the day when bearing wheels first came out! I remember you could buy Winkler Wheels/Flat Face wheels without bearings, with bearings, or you could buy bearings just to glue into your Tech Deck/other bearing-less wheels. Those days were exciting because we started to see brand new gear coming out for the first time, like tiny bearings, the first 32mm decks, the first BR trucks, etc.

  • @AndToTheRepublic4WhichItStands

    I hand crafted my own decks out of multiple different types of wood veneer pressed between two tech deck decks with two c clamps and titebond wood glue between each layer of veneer. Even used food coloring to dye the middle layer of the decks just like the real ones have. And colored crafts sand over a light layer of wood glue to make my own grip tape layers on the top. These would have been amazing to have back then.

    Tech deck really need to add the bearings

    • @TardSoftQB
      @TardSoftQB Před 2 lety +2

      The bearings usually cost more than the board itself and the boards themselves take some time to make alone, add the fees of bearing parts, building them, and having to install new machines that work with the bearings, the typical wheel shape for a tech deck can’t fit bearings, plus the tech decks price would rise alot, and it’s spin master making these, spin master is a toy company meant for plastic toys, making something like adding bearings or pro parts is very rare. The only instance it might happen is if there is some sort of cheap way to make a bearing out of plastic. It’s like a Walmart board, real skateboards have very expensive part where it’s the same for Walmart boards.

    Me being product designer, no it really is as simple as putting some urethane in some silicon molds then doing a final sanding just like normal skateboard wheels. except there's a whole lot less surface area to sand it's much less work just the same process and a whole lot less material used

      The secret is marketing somehow they got kids that obviously don't skateboard thinking tiny peices of plastic and wood are worth so much 😂 honestly kinda makes me sick to my stomach but also a temping business idea I'm quite conflicted maybe if I mixed in some cool dyes I would feel a little less guilty for ripping people off

    I wouldn't say "fingerboarding is dying since" at all - that's just how it appears when you compare things to the great fad.
    Skateboarding is a big industry nowadays and firmly established which makes us forget that skateboarding started out as a fad as well back in the 60's before it died completly around 1970 and only a few punks were still doing it. There was no mass movement and no money to make, but that's precisely the time when the foundations of a legitimate scene were laid in between 1970 and 1975 as well as the foundations of modern skateboarding as such, they pushed their passion underground and independently of any big industry to the point where the public image of skateboarding shifted completly and it became marketable again from '76 to 79'. It experienced another fad, grew rapidly, money got made for the first time and things got professional with brands establishing which are still around.
    And then it all suddenly collapsed again around 1980, but the hard core (more experienced and more numerous than last time) kept the scene alive until it got appealing again to the point where skaters of the Bones Brigade gained humble prominence and caused a vert hype in the mid 80's whose eventual downfall would lead to the hard core to develope street skating which again had mild mainstream success before it shrank again until you had the big mainstream hit of THPS and skating hitting stronger than ever.
    What I mean to say:
    Such periods of perceived decline had been crucial for skateboarding, its culture and future developement because it forged a scene which didn't rely on mainstream success and kept pushing - and I think the same holds true for fingerboarding in a smaller scope just as well.
    It's the decline of the fad which made fingerboarding what it is.
