**IF YOU LIVE IN A WARM CLIMATE OR *SOUTH OF KENTUCKY/WEST VIRGINIA OR WEST OF WISCONSIN/ILLINOIS AND PLACE AN ORDER WITH CHOCOLATE PLEASE READ THIS***
Please pick second day air with a cold pack, if you don't we will have to call you and tell you that you need it. Although we love talking to our customers we just don't have the time to do that. So please help us help you get your order as quickly and painlessly as possible.
***WARNING***This video is made for educational purposes only, if you attempt to make this at home you do so at your own risk and we can not be held responsible for any injuries. Making hard candy is a dangerous process since such high temperature are used to make it. With that said, for those that are curious and want specifics this is how we make it.
For one full size batch we combine into a copper kettle 14 pounds of corn syrup, 7 pounds of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar and 2 quarts of water. We heat it up to 310°F, then we remove it from the stove and pour it onto the marble table and cool it down. Here we add in color and flavoring oil before stretching it on the hook. We stretch it to add in air bubbles which turns it white. We combine the stripes into the body and put it through our fancy candy cutter, then we just wait for it to cool down and bag it up for you to buy!

This is fun for a change. Normally candy making videos have music and they don’t talk but here they are having fun and talking and joking with each other. It kinda feels like we are apart of the family 😊
Right. I like that they're just casually doing what they do, instead of acting like they're trying to get a show on Food Network. This is what CZcams was made for.
Its not we its them
Lofty persuits is also a pretty good channel
We are all family👪👪

It looks like such a fun place to work. id love to work at a candy store. by belly wouldnt though lol

Fun? Look like papa bear won’t accept anything less than what he considers “perfect” . I think Max is perfectly capable and part of learning is making mistakes so he needs freedom to make decisions. My boss over “hovers” trying to tell me exactly what to do and how
The whole twist and pull method isn’t something God designed it’s somethingbtaffy pullers used to put air into their candy, and max is completely capable without papa watching every twist
I just spent half an hour of my life watching this....
Totally worth it!
Me too. And I'm a diabetic 😳. The torture ... the torture ... the tortture ... 😄😄😄😄
Love the slow mo shots! Theyre short and placed on just the right spots. Some people make them excruciatingly long. Beautiful work!
Tarin S Thanks Tarin!
I'd have to agree! Not to long and definially at the right time! Makes videos more interesting!
Awww. When Max was still learning. Now he is a pro!
Y’all are in such good shape for working at a candy place

if youre around something edible all day, you lose your cravings for it.. I couldn't eat pizza when I delivered because you have to just blend out the good smells..
ElBartoNR1 yeah, I worked at a bakery and after about a month I lost cravings for most sweets
Never knew the amount of physical work that went into making candy. I've kneeded and mixed dough by hand and that is hard, but this looks so strenuous. Im impressed and amazed.
But most of the more mainstream candy brands do most of it by machines tho. But yeah definitely.

Feels like making a youtube channel out of this is actually a more viable business these days than making candy by hand and competing against automated factories. Most of these small candy businesses have surely been wiped out already?
@@grantmalone I'm sure there's a separate appeal to purchasing hand-made candy than just buying from a manufacturer. If you just want to eat something sweet you can buy from a mass producer. If you want something that feels a bit more special you can buy hand-made at a higher price point (also you can probably have something custom/made to order, which would be pretty neat but also probably quite expensive). Depends on what you're looking for.
though I'm sure youtube helps as well lol. at the very least it's good publicity.
We need more glamour shots of the finished candy. We need to be able to see what all that work was for!

I think it was so cute when they were sharing memories with each other. I’m 14 and lost my dad to suicide last month so it nice to see things like this! ❤️ really take in the little moments you share with the old guy. I know I miss mine🙃
I'm so sorry this happen to you. Suicide is a very difficult death to come to terms with for the people left behind. Please know that this was not your fault at all and there is nothing you could have done different to change the outcome of your Father's illness. My son lost his Father to Suicide. I understand exactly what you are struggling with and please know, you are not alone. I care about you and your Father cares about you even thou he is no longer here with you. I really love how Max is being tutored in all aspects of candy-making. He's a really sweet and agreeable guy, and he is an enthusiastic learner. Keep up the good work Mom, Dad, Craig & Max! I really like the livestreams/commenting on comments where you take comments and read them out to everyone in the shop, so they have a chance to respond while working.

these videos make me appreciate how much hard work goes into hand crafting candies.
I also loved the Simpson's reference: "oh, that's a paddling!"
I've done this in a candy factory that sold to Department stores back in the day when all dept stores had a candy counter. Various mints, taffy, turtles etc. Once learned it was pretty simple. All the machines, tables, kettles etc were at least 100 years old.
Good to see another American Family making it in America being able to open your own store and have a payroll is something i think every man wishes for.
Last year I let my son shop at the Dollar Tree for everyone’s gifts. He was 4 at the time and I just followed him around the store and let him pick stuff. His uncle got a bottle of ketchup! LoL :)
Staceylwolf best christmas gift from a kid ever. LOL

K , it really was! Everyone loved their gifts. We had dinner one night at my sisters house and my brother in law pulled out his “Christmas ketchup” to use :)

I love watching your videos because the camaraderie and way you guys all interact with each other is so enjoyable to watch. With all the negativity and anger in the world nowadays I find watching your family so refreshing and entertaining.
I just randomly clicked this from my suggested feed. Probably because my daughter watches a lot of hack videos etc. Found myself actually enjoying it! It was cool to see just a normal life situation that wasn't all staged for filming with a bunch of loud excited talking to grab my attention. It was relaxing and informative and just a good old fashioned learning experience. Why can't more of CZcams be like this?
I have no idea why watching these candy making videos are so satisfying?!? Also I watch the stupid commercials just because I want to support this family! I love that they are a small family owned company! 🥰 I was told if you watch the commercials it gives them more money ? If I am wrong please let me know so I can skip them moving forward! Lol
Idk why this feels like you are there it feels just like when the family gets together (just randomly checked my inbox and see this comment thx for all the likes ig lol
😮😮🤤
most wholesome thing i’ve watched in a while
Brian... You got to get a still pic of the combined hard candy, send it to a place to make it into a 500 or 1000 pc jig saw puzzle. Then you can sell them as gifts for holidays (pastel candies for Easter, primary colors for Christmas) on line and in the store. The ribbon candy mixed in a pile would be great too!!!
This is so satisfying to watch the candy being made. I love that we see it from the start of dumping out the proper temperature cooked sugar to the folding to the actual cutting of each piece. It is just super relaxing to watch.
Anyone else wants to eat that candy while it's still flexible 😥😣
It would be the last thing you taste buds ever taste 😂

How can a family this kind and wholesome even exist?
Lovin’ the slow motion sound effects! 👍🏼 Bringing a touch of Hollywood to Hercules Candies! Love it! ❤️❤️
in answer to the evaporating questions:
peppermint oil flavor comes from 3 main molecules: menthol (flash point=199 F), menthone (can't find it, but i assume it's comparable to menthol as their boiling points are close), and menthyl acetate (171 F). what you see evaporating is whatever the solvent is that those flavor molecules are dissolved in. if it weren't being diluted by the candy, this evaporation would make the peppermint flavor even more concentrated!
so unless your candy is hotter than ~150 F, the molecules that give it flavor most likely wouldn't evaporate en mass.
it's been a bit since organic chem, but this seems consistent with the 5 or so essential oil sites i consulted (flash point is also important for soap-making, as some essential oils can't be put in soaps very well as they evaporate at the temperatures needed to melt soap).
hope this helps!
lhiannonsidhe they take the candy off at 290 I think so it’s definitely hotter than 150
Its probably suspended in something like propylene glycol which will start to smoke ~150
If you can smell the flavor as it's cooking off in the hot sugar, you *are* technically losing some. If you can smell it, that means flavor compounds are hitting your nose, and not staying in the candy.
Fighting For Animals and dead bodies
Not exactly. It's the aroma. It's not actually coming off of the object. 😁👌
Not trying to be a nowitall
DinosaurDoc YT
For you to smell it, the particles need to be in the air.
This itself is just so wholesome
Like a family just making candy and enjoying each other’s company
Omg I can just taste the candy when looking at it keep up the good work
Love this video for so many reasons! Especially the fact that it proves you don't need to be a scientist to start a candy business haha! I totally understand the eye burn too, I was making my own Xylitol mints and I added in peppermint and cinnamon extract, and I couldn't see for a few minutes lol! Keep it up!
Must of been scary not being able to see for awhile!

I had my first pair of contacts at 11 in 1972, they were hard contacts not even gas permeable that came after, and it felt like I had dust or dirt particles in my eyes, but my eyeglasses were so thick I told myself I best get used to the feeling or I'd be wearing the dreaded eyeglasses for the rest of my life and automatically, they felt fine after that. My dad was a veterinarian so he bartered with the Eye Dr he would take off some of the charges for the care of his animals in a farm in exchange for the contacts fee so i never knew how much they were...This was back in Panama, the country, Panama City, we lived in the capital. I moved to the US in 1974 and continued using contacts. I've been back to glasses for the past 10yrs, got tired of the contacts after wearing them for almost 40 yrs more or less. Sorry for the rambling..lol... brought back memories! BTW my son bought gifts for everyone in 3rd grade. He's 21 now and I still have the little battery charged radio he got me

Childhood memories right there. My uncle made candy for Red Bird candy factory in Lexington NC. I was able to visit often. He was very good to me growing up.
I remember those scholastic book orders lol. I remember getting a glow-in-the-dark bat with a Halloween Magic School Bus book, and a rubber rat with an educational book about the Plague lol..
The Magic School Bus!
I loved them as a kid and when my kids were in school. I could give the girls an inexpensive treasure. And we would have bed time stories and sometimes a bonus gift i still have the Clifford the big red dog cookie cutters and some halloween stamps from another book.
OMG I lived for those!!! Pleas tell me you guys have started mailing the ribbon candy at Christmas! I don’t CARE if it gets broken in shipping !! It’ll still taste the same.
Lol I ordered from one like let week and one time a got a lot if dumb stuff
Awesome video, Craig!! Loved all the slow motion shots!
Max, you are doing great at learning all of this! Some people may not realize how hard it is for a left handed person to learn something by watching a right handed do it! Or visa versa! Plus, the tables are set up for working the candy right handed and that is why you have to do it differently than Steve. My mom is left handed and I am right handed and I remember her trying to teach me how to crochet! 😂 It was a big mess! LOL I kept telling her to quit doing it backwards and maybe I could learn! Steve, try doing it left handed, from the right, and see if you are able to pull the candy with one hand following the other! Same with working the candy on the hook! 😂 You make it look so easy and it flows real smooth, but try doing it by making your left hand be your dominant hand. That would be a great video! 😂😂😂
I love you guys and very much enjoy the relationship you all have with each other! Just one great big happy family!

Weekly Readers with a toy were the best. At book fairs I would look for a book that came with something extra. It didn’t matter the subject of the book, it was all about the toy. 😂 I think kids of the 80’s appreciated them more than kids today. It was a treat to get an Weekly Reader order in, or buy something at the book fair. ♥️

During the warmer months, why dont you guys automatically charge the cooling pack fee and pack it with all orders? Instead of relying on your customers to see that option and decide they need it. You guys know better than we do on that stuff. Or some people will just think, "Nah, it'll be ok"...and they get their chocolates all melted. It's easier just to charge the 2 bucks automatically with all orders and give us the cold pack whether we think we need it or not. Everytime I have had some kind of food shipped to me, it automatically comes with a cooling pack and I didnt have to ask for it, select the option online etc.
