- Hey, guys in today’s video I’m showing you my Disney Movie Club Exclusive’s Blu Ray copy of The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea 2000 and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning 2008 Combo Pack. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea is a 2000 animated direct-to-video musical fantasy adventure film produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, and the second installment in The Little Mermaid trilogy. Directed by Jim Kammerud and Brian Smith, the story of the film takes place 12 years after the original, and focuses on Ariel and Eric's daughter Melody, a human princess who longs to swim in the ocean despite her parents' law that the sea is forbidden to her. Many voice actors from the original film returned for the sequel, including Jodi Benson as Ariel, Kenneth Mars as King Triton, Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian, and Buddy Hackett as Scuttle in his final film role before his death in June 2003. Pat Carroll, who voiced Ursula in the first film, returned as Ursula's sister Morgana, the sequel's new villain. Tara Strong joined the cast as Melody, Rob Paulsen replaced Christopher Daniel Barnes as Prince Eric and Kay E. Kuter voiced Grimsby replacing Ben Wright who died four months before the first film was released. The film received largely negative reviews, with criticism directed at the screenplay and rehashed plot points, though the characterization of Melody and Strong's performance thereof were praised. In 2008, Disney released a third film, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, which is a prequel to the first film. The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (also known by the working title, The Little Mermaid III: Ariel's Beginning or The Little Mermaid 3: Ariel's Beginning) is a 2008 American animated direct-to-video fantasy film produced by Disneytoon Studios, with the animation production being done by Toon City and DisneyToon Studios Australia. The film is a prequel to Disney's 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid, the third and final installment in The Little Mermaid trilogy, and the final direct-to-video sequel after John Lasseter took over as chairman for the Disney Animation Division. It is also the first in the chronology of the story running through the series and it is based on the fairy tale The Little Mermaid of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen and Disney's The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Animation Japan and Walt Disney Television. Directed by Peggy Holmes, the film's story is set before the events of the original film, when Ariel is still young, and when all music has been banned from the underwater kingdom of Atlantica by King Triton after being heartbroken at his wife's death, and Ariel attempts to challenge this law. Jodi Benson and Samuel E. Wright (in his final film role) reprise their roles as Ariel and Sebastian respectively, while Sally Field voices the film's new villainess, Marina Del Rey. Jim Cummings takes over the role as King Triton, replacing Kenneth Mars, who had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The film was released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on August 26, 2008. Though critical reception was improved over its predecessor, the film received mixed reviews that criticized the score, while the animation, screenplay, and voice performances were praised.
