- This was a solo passion project of mine, i did all the research on the subject and all the editing and sound mixing, it was very time consuming but i knew this was something i couldn't quit on because it matters so much to me, also this is my first time using a professional mic so i apologize for both the sound and my acting, i'm inexperienced but was determined to make this short documentary despite my shortcomings due to my love for Thomas the tank engine, i hope you find something entertaining and or educational in it, i did my best with what i had, thank you.

(Update 1. 9/23/2018): checking back and seeing this hit almost 15,000 veiws is crazy, I honestly didn’t expect many people to watch this let alone like it, so this is a extremely pleasent suprise, thank you to everyone for your kind words, it really means the world to me, and i hope in the future i can make more content for you all. Other videos are bound to be different, this was very tame because that’s the tone i wanted and needed, so don’t think that this will always be a family friendly channel. Again thank you all!
(Update 2. 11/30/2018): it’s taken me much longer than intended to say something about hitting over 100,000 veiws, that is absolutely nuts to me! I honestly did not expect this and am so happy you all enjoyed it and was able to learn something from it, again thank you all!

Yeah same here I just don't understand why they put a hydraulic arm on a locomotive. I know that in the scrap handling industry many claws are used with special ones for shearing, crushing, and sorting. I just have never imagined one on an engine. @Not_darealruvgamin I remember taking my Wooden Railway D10 and making pinchy hit his face, even though pinchy isn't supposed to do that on the WR model. I thought that the scenes where I included him were too scary so suddenly AW PINCHY PINC- NO NOOO STOP PINCHYY!!!
The end touched my heart alot because I've been through alot, and this little blue tank engine has gotten me through ups and downs
Luis Reyes makes two of us, After a hard day at work and in addition of being through a lot myself, putting on episodes of everyone’s favourite tank engine has always proven to be the perfect remedy.
Makes 3 of us I would never give up
That makes 4 of us. If I'm was going through a hard time at school, I'd always put on my Thomas Dvd's Series 1-5
makes 6 of us ever since i could remember i loved trains because of thomas and his friends and now i have 3 model train sets
Luis Reyes hahahah what? I remember reading the little engine that could in first grade. 😭😭 that little train was my inspiration
I always loved the actual trains and the imagination they created. Once it went to all CG it became both unrealistic and too literal at the same time. The CG took the magic and imagination away. There was one I saw that still had the real trains but with CG faces and that wasn't too bad. Also, nobody beat Ringo as a narrator. Thanks for the informative history, I always wondered what happened.
Talking about Season 12 of the show, the season that featured both a mix of animated faces and models from the eighth season, yeah, I remember watching that season on my grandparents' living room TV and on several Season 12 DVDs and no VHS tapes were found for that season as the DVDs featured a lower tone version of the opening, Roll Call, and closing to the show, besides that, the first season inspired me to make my own series called "Thomas Trackmaster Revolutions and Classic Adventures," a series of remade stories from every season of Thomas & Friends, from Season 1 all the way to Season 24
Season 12, got it. Will watch your videos. Cheers.

I really like Journey Beyond Sodor! In my opinion, the plot is new and action-packed, the songs are amazing, and the new characters are there for a reason! Frankie and Hurricane are some of the co-protagonists and the experimental engines help Thomas save James from The Steelworks. In my opinion, it is the BEST Thomas and Friends movie!
Despite people saying it was the worst thing since mold on slice bread. But I agree with you, it does show action! That’s what people want; ACTION! It’ll be pretty boring if there’s no drama and action.

all enngines go you mean? yeah,, seems like britt alcroft needed a legacy for when she dies, because she's 79 years old now, but now she created something that in a short matter of time had a video on youtube that was called "50 Things Wrong with All Engines Go", and the hate for all engines go is crazy, she's ruined my favourite childhood show, and lots of other people's favourite show too.
This video brought back so many good memories for me when i was 5 i broke my leg on a trampoline and couldn’t walk or do much because of the full leg cast so my mother went to the attic and pulled out my older brother’s thomas and friends vhs tapes dvds and toys which i still keep close to my heart to this day thomas was my first friend as a child and i still love him to this day as a full grown adult
Its interesting to see, Henry, Gordon , and Edward were the originals. Imagine if Mr.Awdry made a Gordon model. Would Thomas not exist who would it be Edward Henry or Gordon the engine. Maybe thats why Gordon and Thomas have a rivalry.
First came Edward, then came Henry, then came Gordon and all the other characters.
And the reason why Gordon is pissed off throughout the show.

Fork In The Road Official
Yes and now you see that is why the the railway series stories are so good Ive got my Thomas the tank engine centenary library of all 26 railway series books the ones written by the Rev. W. Awdry and later on I’m going to be collecting the railway series stories the ones written by Christopher Awdry
And on a true side note on that I really feel that Andrew Brenner is such a good writer and has written some very good stories and that what I feel my motivation to write stories between Awdry, allcroft, Brenner, & myself to make them believable as possible as can determinedly just I come up with a story idea in mind like Thomas instead of going through magic buffers, imagine him going through a magic tunnel to some magical places. (and not an island that’s covered in mist) just as good as any story ideas you guys can come up with some story ideas that children around the world and Mattel creations will enjoy marvelous adventures of what Thomas the tank engine would become the next 70 years to come.

i have tons of dvd of episodes of thomas put together to be the length of a movie, more or less, and, with some of them, there were activties in the episodes, like connect the dots to make an engine, help the engine find where their supposed to go, and, with other ones, there were activites with the main menu, that you could pick to do, or there were pick an episode selection thing, and, i think as well as with some of my thomas movies, there'd be these info option things that you could select, there'd be info option things that you could select that would tell you info about characters like toby, thomas, percy, gordon, henry, mavis, spencer, bulstrode, etc. and it was just so fun, the classic thomas was the true thomas, and it was just beautiful ❤❣😍❤❣❤

As a young kid in Arkansas, I LOVED Thomas. Tatmr was my favorite movie, and even though now I know it's not great, it will always have a special spot in my heart.
Same, I grew up watching it ages ago on VHS tapes and reruns on TV
Man, it's so weird to see how the Thomas sections in the Shining Time Station really stuck with me. George Carlin told a great story without "baby talking" the plot. The modeling and special effects inspired me to start the modeling hobby as a kid, but never had the luxury of doing it or knowing how. I return again to it in the form of Warhammer, terrain building, and 3D printing... and it feels almost like it did when I watching the show as kid.
But I wondered why I remember Thomas being something I held dear, but never knew the origin or what became of it when Shining Time Station was taken off PBS.
Thank you for making this video!
When I was 4 years old in London in the 1960s, I had almost all of the small hand size Thomas The Tank Engine books with the great artwork by Reginald Payn. Although I could not yet read, I would spend hours and hours looking at the beautiful pictures. God Bless the Reverand W. Awdry for creating this iconic method of moral storytelling! The model Train version was of course after my time, but i would have loved it! The CGI Sucks!
So your a boomer that agrees that the cgi is bad? When I first came across this comment literally just now I thought:
I like this one
Also it seems like you had a good child hood where times were simpler.
@@jessicalupton331 It what I personally grew up with, so I fond memories of the books!
For me personally the classic era (seasons 1-7) will always be the best in my book and while I still enjoy Thomas and the RWS books for nostalgic reasons, I'm not involved with the fandom community because the majority of them are either immature or just down right anti-social. The problem is they take it far too seriously there's a lot more to steam and railways than just a children show such as the documentaries by legendary steeplejack and steam enthusiast Fred Dibnah, never keep your eggs in one basket as the old saying goes.

Don't worry they are giving life back to Thomas and now I believe it's alit better off.....at least its not the older CGI series right?
@@robertspringen1524 the Miller era...*shudders*
The show was never that realistic on railway practice since the 5th season. Heck there was bouncing was in MRR when Gordon shuddered at the fear of Diesel 10 and no one went up in arms because of that.
It was still movement though to express emotion, like what the CGI series is doing now because kids actually like it and even if they were years apart it is still movement.
Very nicely done. I grew up loving the classic Thomas The Tank Engine show, and it still holds a special place in my heart. Even The Magic Railroad is special to me because I loved it so much as a kid, even if it does have problems. This documentary was cool because it had some information that I didn't even know about, and now I'm interested in learning more. I haven't really watched the show that much the last few years because of the things you discussed, but if the show has been improving somewhat, maybe I'll have to take another look at it.

No s__t. I used to refuse to watch Calling All Engines! because the scene where Thomas asks Diesel 10 for help near Gordon’s Hill scared me.
I was 5 when Thomas and the magic railroad came out. Honestly I don’t even know how many times I watched it. I loved it.
Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends will always be a part of my childhood Forever and honestly once in a blue-moon I watch an episode to bring back all of the memories of the smiles and laughs that I had and still have today.
R.I.P Rev. W. Awdry & George Carlin.
Don't forget Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis!
I hated when I was younger and they started to animate the show. I was always a fan of the real toy model engines. And I loved their first movie, I feel like the animated version ruined the show.
Oh yeah, CGI.....
The Model Era Was The Most Realistic
I liked the older ones even some of the books.
The crashing sequence in most of the show's episodes just like the books really did carry on for lesson learning on the characters so they would learn better at a future momentum but we don't like it when the trains crash; it's too dangerous. That's also why I want the show redone without the characters crashing, having an accident or featuring drivers and firemen.
Gotta admit, Donald & Douglas’ theme is a tune I hum to myself when I’m pushing busses around when they breakdown or when they need a push around the yard when they can’t start (something I like to refer to as ‘shunting’)

There should really be a movie about the creation of the series similar to the first 30 minutes of "Christopher Robin" in a way.
I absolutely loved and still feel fond of Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
There's something special about Lady, I really love her design and I still find it sad she's not been used more.
I love Lady and Stanley. Lady is so colorful and so awesome!!
It’s so underrated! It’s my fav movie!
I claim Thomas and the Magic Railroad, the first of all Thomas and Friends movies to be one of the greatest; it's the main reason why I want the show by all three versions redone without the characters' drivers and firemen, accidents and crashes since it was lucky to be made that way. I can also make the Island of Sodor a reality if the new product I thought up, Land Paste would be created.
I disagree on Magic Railroad being the greatest cuz I'd rather watch the Great Discovery, and I don't like the movie, the lack of realism is what grips me the most, and seasons 2-5 tried to make the engines as real as possible
As I said 2-5 tried to make the engines real, the movie completely ignored that and Thomas ain't really contributing as much cuz he ain't the main character, and Magic Railroad in my opinion alone was a mistake from the start, it's not the worst film but it's a film I don't really care for or seeing again, and not gonna lie the movie to me in particular was kind of boring, Diesel 10 in my opinion was the best part of the film, a film that Awdery perhaps never approve on, and Edward ain't in it sad 😢
“Tank Engine Thomas Again”
We’re really working overtime on these titles.
19:13 I died at that part.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anybody think a movie about the rev. W awdry and the creation of the railway series? Im surprised it hasn't been done
Brenner might take it into consideration if he sees this
You predicted the mister Rodgers movie
A film with a retelling of the original stories in-between. Either live action with real steam locos or models. That would be amazing!
@@tjmfarming9584 who sees this ? What do you mean he
i mean a movie about the creation of the railway series with real human actors, ya know?
The history of this show is a good story of what happens if you let gold fall into the wrong hands
I used to love this series when I was a little kid , But I always wondered the backstory behind it. This feels like closure to me
7:42 Thomas sure does have a vision
He’s probably thinking about how he’s become BADLY MADE CGI
I cried at the last part

Dumb
Something unfortunate is the switch to computerized methods in modernized animation. All of the heart has drained from it now.
This show has make me joyfull and hopefull.this show will remain in my heart forever
Seasons 1-7 were the best, Season 8-12 were good, Seasons 13-16 were ok, Season 17-20 were also good and Currently Seasons 21-present are So Bad!
21-present is actually pretty good if you get used to the bouncing
@@Parappadarappa2 but Season 22 sucks. I wish Mattel never bought HiT.

I can agree with some aspects, but I respect your point anyway.
Dear everyone who has seen this
I know that all of your opinions really truly mater of Thomas and friends but my opinion is that all of us should stop thinking about all the bad things in Thomas and friends and start thinking about all the wonderful things that Thomas and all his friends have brought into all of are childhood harts. You may think they didn't make this right or they made the screen crooked. I mean doesn't only mater what are children and grandchildren think and what the inside the kid in all of us think. When are children get's sick or upset or do bad things. Thomas and his friends shows the good in all of us even when the parts of the world is being so and so. It made me happy when my grandson was a kid he always sat down and watch Thomas and friends and when that show showed him about how to come are fears and see the goodness in life it always warms my hart and made me really happy.
Sincerely Mr. Matthew Holiday
PS. I hope that some of you will agree with me.
Ahhh yeah you true I haved all toys as kid :)

all engines go just ruined Thomas's reputation. I will remember thomas in my heart
I loved Ringo Starr in the 1st seasons of the t.v. series, but secretly what if Rev.W.Awdry himself was chosen as the narrator instead?
There is little doubt it would've been a grand treat. But considering his past experience from companies mediating his books, he was skeptical on doing it, so he wanted to make sure the narrator was legit. Apart from having never read the books, calling Thomas "Thomy" and having disagreements on how to voice The Fat Controller, the Reverend thought Ringo was a great choice
@@adamzabielski3685 I guess you're right but all the same it probably would've been nice if Wilbert had narrated some early episodes. Considering he was the author and creator of those RWS books.
@@adamzabielski3685 wait Ringo Starr called Thomas "Thomy" behind the scenes? He should've done that in the show
@@Mr_Gamer-Random Awdry would never allow it. Whenever Ringo did, he instantly corrected him
Its great to see that u appreciate it unlike others seeing it as a kids show.
Thomas and the magic railroad was a great movie!
I agrer. It was a staple of my childhood and still sticks with me to this day. I thought it was a great film as a child, and as an adult I still see it as a very well put together children's film. I'd say it would be a film I woukd share with my children one day.
I always thought it was pretty bad
@@toadthebreakvan4518 yes, too American
I loved it

Funny enough there was actually ANOTHER attempt at making The Railway series into an animated show by Andrew Lloyd Webber. While the project never got off the ground it was instrumental in the creation of his musical, Starlight Express.
Still my favorite Thomas documentary all these years later

worst line ever to said in thomas history
I remember watching this back around late 2019 and not to long after I remember getting back into Thomas thanks to this. All I wanted to say was thank you man :) happy 2023.
if this was made when the 2021 reboot was coming out, i wonder what he would say about it
