Here's to a great summer of reading. Best wishes.
Vigdis Hjorth's sister, Helga, wrote a book in response to Will and Testament called Free Will.
Have you ever seen the tv show 'Back to Life' on BBC iplayer? It's about a woman in her 30s adjusting to normal life after spending 18 years in prison. It's definitely got themes you're interested in.
No, but I just watched the trailer and it looks great. Thanks for the recommendation :)
It’s miserable here. Cold, wet and windy. I’m longing for some sunshine.
I’ve preordered The God of the Woods. Can’t wait.
The Go Between is a great book.
Will and Testament (because of the topic, and plz check the trigger warnings) felt a bit winter-y to me, because the drama .. well… gives me chills.
A coming of age recommendation
Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Haworth
Hi Albus ❤
I recently read The Safe Keep and enjoyed it. Was Surprised by it. I dnf’d Fellowship Point. Thought I would like it, but it didn’t hold my interest. Happy reading!
Added a few to my list from this!
Interested in what you’ll think of Revival Season. I read it a few years ago and it wasn’t for me but I’m curious if it’s for you, and/ or if I’d feel differently now.
I loved Fellowship Point. Such richly developed opposites, elderly lady characters. Without going into too much I felt it went a bit too saccarine at a few points for my liking personally, but it was only just shy of a 5star.
Girlhood, complex womens relationships, highly think you would like Strike Your Heart by Amelie Nothomb. Absolute short, sharp hit for me.
I was worried that Fellowship Point could be too saccharine for me - so we'll see! Thanks for the recommendation :)
I don't know if you've read it but I think you would really enjoy Firekeeper's daughter by Angeline Boulley (it's YA but still highly recommend it)
I borrowed it from the library before as I heard great things about it and then didn't read it in time. You've reminded me that I need to reborrow it!
I got halfway through The Safe Keep and DNFed it, hope you like it more than I did. Recommend The Wolf at the Table by Rapp for a family drama "darker" read and for a good beach/hammock read Summer Fridays by Rindell as well as Jackpot Summer by Friedland.
That's a shame. I just read the first couple of pages and liked the writing style so hopefully it will work for me. Thank you for the recommendations :) They all sound great!
I’m reading House Woman at the moment. It’s not an easy read. It seems more like social horror than thriller so far, but a little too close to things actually happening in the world.
Hmmmm, I'm even more intrigued now!
I have a copy of Lost in the Garden - looking forward to it. My ears pricked up when you said The Safe Keep had been compared to Sarah Waters!
They both sound so intriguing, don't they!?
@@MercysBookishMusings absolutely! And any comparison to Sarah Waters definitely has me interested 😊
These all look fantastic, and most of them are new to me. (Safe Keep especially is calling my name!) Thanks for posting about them, I’m looking forward to seeing your reviews!
I forget, have you read The Book of Secrets by Elizabeth Arnold or The Things We Do to Our Friends by Heather Darwent? They’re both well-written page turners about toxic friendships (and toxic families.) I think they might be right up your street!
No, I haven't read either of those so thanks for the recommendations!
Vigdis Hjorth is one of my favourite authors. The reason why Will and Testament caused such a scandal in Norway is because it is autofiction.
Could you please link the vlog you were talking about related to The Go-Between?
Ohhh, yes, I had read that somewhere and forgotten! The reading vlog is linked as a card. If you click on the description box it is a link at the bottom.
Re the go between. Try What Maisie knew.
Thanks for the recommendation :)
I read/listened to The Go-Between last year and enjoyed it very much. The boy's experiences at the Hall are just a rollercoaster of everything 🥺 Today I picked up Lost in the Garden, I'm really looking forward to it
Glad to hear how much you enjoyed The Go-Between! Ohhh, I hope you're getting on well with Lost in the Garden :)
