@@bencohen6645 The original quote was from Bruce Lee and is don't fear the man who trained 10,000 kicks 1 time. Fear the man who trained 1 kick 10,000 times. Chael is known for having the largest arms in west linn oregon
Something tells me that if Bruce Lee saw Royce Gracie submit guys in the early days of UFC, he would have been training BJJ like a madman before even turning the TV off.
Why does it cause you pain? He couldn't fight. He was a fake. He was quoted as saying he could beat Muhammad Ali 😂. He was a very talented showman, philosopher, entertainer. He was also a very talented liar and charlatan.
@@RyanSmith-km8vh I believed, he could handle himself in a real fight against the adverage person, but a real fighter no, but ya other than that I agree
@@theanarchy4003 Your coach at the local MMA gym tell you different? I swear, MMA guys have become worse than the traditional martial artists with their delusions of invincibility. Not to mention this attitude that real fighters didn't exist before cellphone cams and CZcams.
Chael will talk about ANYTHING. He fantasies about anything. Tomorrow he will probably upload a video with the title: "Could Jon Jones beat a 2 year old male lion?"
I remember when I was training in BJJ and my own body scolded me also trying to do boxing and Muay Thai and Judo once a week and lifting weights. It scolded me so much that one day I just couldn't get off the couch and that became a habit, day after day... As it happened, I didn't do any of that stuff again for several years. I'm not sure what my original point was. Probably something about diminishing returns or something like that, but I'm kinda depressed sharing that sad tale and think I need a nap.
Let's be honest. Bruce Lee likely wouldn't have been able to beat an MMA fighter in its current form. Now an MMA trained Bruce Lee would have been a whole different animal. But make no mistake about it. Bruce Lee still would have been a dangerous striker.
@@CallousCarter no doubt, but a signed MMA fighter to a national or global promotion that is ranked? I highly doubt it. Although there are a few people I think he could take. Bob Sapp is definitely one of them. "He broked-ed my nose" 😂

I feel that most people overlook Bruce Lee's ridiculous discipline. When people think of discipline, they may think of guys like David Goggins, Marvin Hagler, tough men like that. Bruce Lee was one of those guys, he spent time training as a monk in a Shaolin temple. He then went on to enlist in the Marine Corps in 1972, and received training at Parris Island. The dude is hardened to the bone. If he were to be a fighter in MMA today, he would be smart and disciplined enough to train with the best, top tier MMA practitioners and fighters, and exercise his variables in wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, etc. He must've been very fit and well conditioned back then when he was training regularly, so I feel cardio wouldn't be an issue, as a matter of fact his cardio would be insane. It's a fun fantasy to dive into, but I feel a lot of people sleep on Bruce Lee tbh
@@enterthebruce91 These are the most insightful comments I have read. Exactly this. He would have evolved with the sport and PROBABLY quickly. He was intelligent, super athletic, insanely devoted and passionate, philosophical and hugely ahead of his time with regards to innovation. The huge issue I have with these retarded debates and Chaels half assed thoughts, in this instance, is every one neglects to approach this with the question, if Bruce Lee was training TODAY, how do we think he would have done? And I BELIEVE AT LEAST - WELL! If not be a top level MMA fighter, if he so choose. He was breaking new ground when there wasn't any ground - it's not fair to compare what he was doing back then, with no real platform for application or testing, he chose to express his many theories via film. If GSP took to film instead of MMA and someone said how do we think he would have done vs MMA fighters, Chael would have laughed because he was a movie star and not a fighter - well, GSP chose and answered. Anybody get where I am coming from here? The proper answer is WE DON'T KNOW - but I have a feeling, VERY WELL, in his weight class.
Chael you seem to have missed three important facts: -What Bruce Lee did on camera was not what he practiced in real life -What Bruce Lee taught his students was not what he practiced in real life -Bruce Lee mixed TMA, Western boxing, fencing, Judo, Jujitsu, etc. etc. He was the original Mixed Martial artist.
And did he not get chuck Norris his first action film chuck went on to make many more chuck Norris was a point karate champion unlike Joe Lewis another of Lee's students who went on to leave point karate to start full contact kickboxing he said Lee was very fast and powerful especially with his hands blinding speed and should be considered he who was the greatest
@ the fact the only computation fighting at that time was none contact and the winner only received a trophy Lee was making money else where the late Jim Kelly also said that's why he stopped he had a family to feed so by the time full contact came about lee was a major movie star Lee was about making a martial art for the street not to win a trophy and you could say that about any so called champion of that time it was point karate no contact was made including chuck Norris hes a champion of none contact

God, I hate Bruce Lee talk because now we have the fanatics who think he was invincible, and then the opposite end of the spectrum of idiots saying 'he was just an actor'. Essentially, Lee's hypothesis of fighting has in a sense been proved in MMA. He was definitely a visionary, and inspired many fighters of today's age. How would prime BL fair in the UFC? Probably not very well if he couldn't defend a takedown. However, with training and time, given his ridiculous work ethic, I'm quite sure he would have done very well. Chael, you refer to Chuck Norris as real because he competed, yet he competed in point karate. How about Joe Lewis, considered the godfather of kickboxing, who BL became affiliated with and soon after Lewis went on a huge win streak, becoming the champion. Then there's Mike Stone, and Gene LeBelle. Anyway, what we know: - he had great technique, as observed through film and demonstrations - he had the knowledge of many martial arts/fighting. Why would world champions train with him if he had nothing to offer? - he had the physicality - he grew up in street fights in HK, so he wasn't a stranger to a fight What we don't know: - how well he could apply his principles in an actual fight - how well he could take a punch I think if he was around today, he would be working with and training many top UFC fighters.

I train primarily in street combatives. I've trained with mma and boxing guys. Watching a boxer or mma guy try to defend a full on knife attack. Do we bring 25 year old Bruce Lee over here and give him a few years at American Top Team or AKA? With modern training principles, diet, and the 25 years of MMA knowledge we have today, putting Bruce Lee in the Mix at the 125 weight division might make some noise. There is no question he was a gifted athlete, and a lot of what goes into MMA is those natural gifts. With modern training and diet, Bruce might be a smaller, more technical Barboza.
125? Bruce lee was 170 pounds of pure muscle at one point. 6% body fat. He was curling 60 pound dumbells and eating flank steak every day. The guy was a monster at 5'8.

It was a burnt clay brick which is the same kind that is used to build houses. My cousin walked up to Bruce and he said, "Sir, no offense, but if you're for real, then you should have no problem breaking this brick." He then handed it to Bruce. Bruce Lee would need exactly what every MMA fighter needs to enter a fight, practice. His style of fighting used a lot of techniques that would cause him to lose a fight because they would be against the rules. He would need time to get the feel for the sport's safety restrictions. Out the gate almost every fighter in his weight class would beat him because he just doesn't have the programming for what techniques to use in what situation based on the rules. He would have to think before acting. The rule book would be playing in his head. He also was just starting his ground education which would put him at a disadvantage skill wise. Let's face it, for his time he was amazing but MMA is the byproduct of what he and other martial artists (which there were others) started. They just started breaking from single systems and started mixing them. Modern artists have the benefit of growing up in an open system and learning what works and when for far longer. Take him at his prime and give him a year or so to do dedicated training for the purpose of fighting so he could build the muscle memory and he would be a handful. The more experience he developed the more effective he would become. The potential to be a champion is definitely there.
Bruce lee as he was in the 70's would get whooped in modern mma. If however bruce was born in this generation, and trained specifically for mma, he would be a world champion.
Chuck Norris and Joe Lewis (the Karate Champ, not the boxer) both said Bruce Lee was a handful in sparring. Also, after meeting Gene LeBell, he started incorporating grappling in his arsenal. If you watch the beginning of Enter the Dragon, you'll see Bruce sparring with an opponent, both in tight shorts and gloves that allowed for grabbing. Looked very similar to what we call mma today. He was way ahead of his time; his vision of what mixed style, competitive combat should look like is basically what we see in the UFC. In the film, we see him land some strikes then take his opponent down and tap him out with a crucifix. Lee may not have been a professional fighter but he was a martial artist who emphasized full-contact sparring, cross training in other systems, strength and conditioning training at a time when that stuff wasn't popular in the martial arts world.
There are professional Martial Artists that competed during his day that have come out and definitively made statements stating that Bruce Lee was the real deal!
@@cuzz63 Maybe because he trained 3 people that became full contact karate world champions, 2 of them being the greatest of all time, one of whom went on to create kick boxing.
Very good analysis with styles of the time. Maybe he may have learned those grabbing skills if he was in this time. Remember he mentioned be like water. I don't know why they didn't get him on competitions. But his demonstrations were very impressive and he really looked good in his art. Imagine how much knowledge and skills he might have learned or added to his portfolio. But it's also difficult to compare then and now. E.g fighting styles, fighter abilities, and using the word if, because the word if is just an imagination. I appreciate all the lesson because they are all great contributions and inspirations.

Right but the way Loma uses his style is far far different than what was taught in the Tao of JKD especially since he does so much stance switching a la mike tyson.
Plenty of boxers worked champions fought that way before Loma bro. Oscar De La Hoya, Winky Wright, Rigo and countless others. Most Cubans train to fight dominant hand fwd. Js any expert laughing at that isn't really an expert. They're just biased to their own ways/views.

No you’re wrong. Do you consider Joe Lewis to be “a fool” who didn’t know martial arts? Lewis was a greater fighter than Norris. He won more heavyweight karate championships and went on into full contrat karate. He trained UNDER Lee and credited him for some of his success. He said on film that Bruce could punch like a heavyweight and was the fastest guy he had ever seen. Lee did not compete becasue he said any competition would have restrictions on what moves could be performed and was therefore not the real deal. Blaze 11 sound statement as most on here have forgotten that the man himself studied all forms of Martial Arts combat. Bruce was forever evolving. And if you we're to put a prime Bruce in today's world with all the current training to go along with his mindset, I would feel confident on betting on him contending for a belt. He stood five feet seven inches and weighed 135, however his strength for a person of his stature was unmatched. His work ethic was also unmatched back in the day. Hey Chael big fan, I have a question for you I am not sure if you have been asked before. In the martial arts world are their guys who join a dojo or class or whatever and the instructors or sensei after training with them for awhile realize. “Hey this guy shouldn’t be here or is here for the wrong reasons and I no longer want to train this individual”? I ask because it’s like a person wanting to buy a gun for the wrong reason. They buy a gun because they can and they are just waiting for an opportunity to use it. I am sure in the martial arts world there are guys who want to learn it and walk around just waiting for an excuse to use the skills they have learned. Have you being an mma fighter ever seen this or guys behave in a manner like this. I have seen countless CZcams videos where mma fighters like Roger Huerta have tuned up a guy whether they had no choice or because they simply could. Thanks Chael much love and keep up the good work.

Even today you hear people argue about grappling vs striking and which is best. Bruce felt (and I agree) that that is foolishness. There is no superior art all the time.- Bruce Lee.
Bruce Lee actually trained in both stand up and grappling arts.. but he wouldn't beat any modern professional MMA fighter at 125 / 135 / 145. Though Bruce probably could beat some regional fighters of a similar size. Bruce definitely could have been taught to become an MMA fighter with his base skills, that's for sure. Like if you threw a prime Bruce Lee into AKA or ATT.. in about a year or two.. I wouldn't want to fight him.
Absolutely. He may have actually done okay with his existing skillset as long as he got to spar in the usual 6month build up to a fight. If he had competent MMA guys sparring him for six whole months I'm sure he would figure a lot of basics out like simple double legs, how to sprawl, cage defense etc. We should also remember that the way he acted fighting isn't necessarily the way he would attempt a real fight. He obsessed over footwork of martial arts like fencing and western boxing. Who's to say he wouldn't have attempted some Dominick Cruz type movement?
@@INeedJesus55 he won a boxing tournament, and he trained people that went and got belts man , he was black belted in judo , the dude with modern tools would smash anybody Because his work ethic was mad
Anyone who’s fought understands offence is only half of fighting. Being able to handle a punch or fight through a fractured face or jaw is something Lee never proved he capable of. Nit a fighter he was a Martial Artist/Actor.

Bruce Lee's philosophy was actually to "truly express oneself" . Martial arts and the screen were his mediums but his philosophy can be applied to any individual and any medium. Essentially you take Maslow's pyramid and make expression as, or more important as food and shelter. I have found the philosophy to be extremely powerful / accurate.
Bruce was about ending a fight in the fastest way possible. With binding speed, accuracy, and power. You're wrong about this one Chael. Bruce in his prime trained in mma would take anyone in his weight and likely the division above him. My opinion but I truly believe it.
The only division for Bruce Lee’s weight would be woman’s straw though lol. And after watching Joanna and Zheng. I think they’d both take him in today’s world.
If we jump into conclusion that someone has got everything figured, then it may be possible that someone can come out and prove that person wrong. There is the likelihood of many talented people... Wonderful analysis
You're right on the money, Chael. Bruce Lee's philosophy was very simplistic and straight forward but that was his point: to inspire people to take the most "simple path" to success in combat. I think that the fact that he didn't join competitions was his choice. He felt the competitions had limiting rules and didn't actually portray a real fight. I think he would've actually enjoyed what the UFC has accomplished. Many world champions that did compete (Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis) would seek to be trained and train with Bruce Lee; I don't think they would have the same respect for someone like Van Damme or Segal or others that haven't contributed much to MMA. Bruce Lee himself knew that the biggest argument against would be just that, "but he didn't fight" so he even addressed it and responded "if I say that I am good, you will say that I am cocky, but if I say that I am no good, you know that I am lying" Check it out, from a multi-time World Karate Champion and the first Kickboxing champion, Joe Lewis (min 4:10) czcams.com/video/AXdG577px94/video.html
He trained on his grappling and wrestling privately with Gene Lebell for over a year, returning the favour of teaching Lebell how to strike. Does this mean he could go out and beat a prime ufc fighter, probably not. But he had a better foundation than almost anybody to get to that level, his speed power and conditioning coupled with maybe a year at a good academy like aka or att training with elite fighters, and then a full 10 to 12 week camp. I think he could of easily done well against current professional MMA fighters.
Bruce can also train like any other fighter. He's a freak of an athlete, more so than Reyes, so if he fought, definitely had a chance to become champ to the highest of levels.
Bruce Lee would’ve been the kind of guy who constantly adapted his game he would’ve made himself an elite level wrestler to back up his striking he always looked for ways to evolve as a fighter
Short answer: No. He would not beat a high level MMA fighter of UFC caliber. No matter the weight, height etc. He would lose very easily to any top 10 bantamweight.
But you are comparing Bruce Lee from 1970s to mma in 2020. Bruce was 30+ years ahead of his time. IF he were alive today and coming up in this era, why would he not be 30+ years ahead of his time? Skillset wise we will never know. But Bruce Lee in 1970s beat world champion martial artists like Joe Lewis and Chuck Norris in training fights. Simply Bruce Lee is the greatest martial artist/fighter of all time.
Wei Chun because of him mma exists he had to exist to show mma was the best without him doing that fighters 30 plus years away would still blow most likely lol
Have to realize that bruce was the first to mix martial arts but he did not grow up in this new style. That being said i think he would do well in his weight division.
I have to agree with Chael, Bruce Lee was ahead of his time and an early fore father of MMA but Bruce Lee has nothing that would challenge pro MMA fighters in this day and age.
I think Bruce Lee would do well with his athletic ability and his obsessive work ethic. He would stay in tip top shape year around and would have been the ultimate student of the game I honestly think he would be a worthy champion
Bruce lee did train grappling, it's in his book also it's known that he won a boxing tournament in his early age and on CZcams you can see him fight blindfolded , also most of his kicks where real kicks , Bruce lee trained like a maniac , the dude had his own abs exercises invented , also imagine if he had modern tools , also he probably has lots of streets fight, who wouldn't challenge him back in the day

Bruce Lee had at least one real fight with a karate master, Yoichi Nakachi. Also, we know Bruce Lee sparred with karate experts, and we know what karate experts said about him… In 1960 at age 19, Bruce fought Yoichi Nakachi, a Japanese black belt in Karate and Judo. Yoichi had pursued Bruce for weeks, wanting a match, and they had finally agreed to fight on a handball court at a local YMCA. Ed Hart timed the fight, which lasted just 22 seconds. (According to Doug Palmer the actual time was 11 seconds but Hart doubled it, not wanting to embarrass Yoichi!). Bruce hit Yoichi with a flurry of punches, then kicked him in the head, knocked him out cold, and fractured his skull. Yoichi ended up in the hospital. "This guy was a black belt in Karate and Judo," said Jesse Glover, Lee's first student. "He was fast, and his technique was excellent." The Japanese fighter arrived in his all-white karate gi with a black sash around his waist. Lee wore street clothes. Yoichi assumed a karate stance. Lee stood with his hands at his sides. Yoichi threw a kick. Lee parried it, then all hell broke loose. "Bruce straight punched the guy, landing punch after punch, all the way across the room," recalls Ed Hart. "The guy was punching back, but his punches just weren't getting there. He came off the wall and tried to grab Bruce, but Bruce spun him and hit him with both hands - one in the face and the other in the chest - and the guy flew through the air and landed on the floor on one knee." Lee closed the distance rapidly, then launched a front kick that ending up flush on Yoichi’s face with such force that he flipped over backward, ending up on his chest. "I hollered, 'Stop!' Glover says, "and the guy was out cold. He looked like he was dead." Most of Bruce Lee’s other interactions with Karate experts were more of the sparring variety. And we know what Karate experts who sparred and trained with Bruce said about him… Chuck Norris won six consecutive middleweight Karate championships and opened a chain of Karate schools, but he became a student of Bruce Lee. Norris told Black Belt, “The truth is Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiselled physique and technique… Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size.” There is a 1973 handwritten letter from Chuck Norris to Bruce Lee, on Norris’s official letterhead, in which Norris admitted that he was a student of Bruce Lee and said it was a privilege to learn from him. I take the letter to be a lame apology for Norris making public statements in which he tried to make himself out to be Lee’s equal or superior and said they were training together rather than Lee teaching him. Other people may have different interpretations of the letter, but it leaves no doubt that Norris was Lee’s student and that he learned from him in a student-teacher relationship. Here is the letter, followed by a photograph of the handwritten letter on Norris’s stationary. The original letter is in the possession of Dan Inosanto and can be viewed at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Marina Del Rey, California. “Dear Bruce, Just a note to wish you great success on the movie and to clarify any misinterpretations you have heard about our training together. I have told hundreds of people I have trained with you. My ego is not such that I am ashamed of it. It was a privilege learning from you. One thing I never do is mention you in the same breath with Kung Fu. I mention you as a master of the Martial Arts because of your proficiency in all of them, so I always say you are a master of your own Art. Anyway that is enough of that. Bruce, I hope 1973 is a great year for you and give my regards to Linda and the kids. Take care, Chuck” William Cheung said Bruce Lee defeated Chuck Norris and that Norris became Lee’s student after he was defeated. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who took lessons from Bruce Lee, said that when Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee sparred, Norris’s face look like an apple. Mike Stone was nicknamed the “Animal” and he won a record 91 consecutive matches in Karate tournaments. Mike Stone also became a student of Bruce Lee. Joe Lewis was nicknamed “the Muhammad Ali of Karate” and has been called "the greatest Karate fighter of all time." But he too became a student of Bruce Lee. Herb Jackson said the great Joe Lewis “couldn’t touch” Lee when they sparred. According to Jake May, in an online discussion, Dan Inosanto told friends that he witnessed Joe Lewis and Bruce Lee spar and Joe was helpless to hit Bruce. And Joe seemed to confirm this himself… Joe Lewis, voted by top fighters and promoters as the greatest karate fighter of all time, was awed by Lee’s speed and ability. During a video demonstration of Lee’s speed punch, Lewis that he couldn’t hit Bruce with it because he went into “zen mode” and “you couldn’t hit him with a bullet, he was so fast.” The great Joe Lewis admitted that he was unable to hit Bruce. I have placed a link to the video at the bottom of this page. In a video Joe Lewis said, “He had blinding speed, especially with his hands.” Joe Lewis has a video on CZcams titled “What Bruce Lee Taught Me.” Now he teaches others what Bruce Lee taught him. Why would all-time great martial artists like Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris and Mike Stone seek training from someone who “was not a fighter”? It makes no sense to say that Bruce Lee was “just an actor.” Expert witness testimony is accepted in courts, but Bruce Lee’s detractors deny the testimony of experts and ignore other evidence when they claim he was “just a celebrity” and “not really a fighter.” Again, why would the greatest martial artists of his era go to Bruce Lee for training, if he wasn’t a great martial artist and a great fighter? That would be like going to Sylvester Stallone for boxing lessons - it makes no sense whatsoever. From what I understand, Chuck Norris studied under Bruce Lee for two years. Surely great martial artists would have recognized if their teacher didn’t know more than they did, and would have canceled the lessons as a waste of time and money. As noted in the comments by Esosa: “All these guys, including Norris and Lewis, paying him his due as the real deal, what more do ya want? I mean, I’m a karateka myself and I know about their humongous egos. So if these guys were willing to train under Lee…?” In the comments Dave Owens observed: “A buddy of mine is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He later went on to study Lee's Jeet Kune Do. He said it's the difference between tiddly winks and chess.” Dave later added: “He summed it up in that Bruce Lee took every single martial art attack from every discipline and then he figured out a counter for each one. It resembles nothing else. There aren't too many Jeet Kun Do studios because it's so stinking hard to master! You just about have to get a black belt in each discipline before you can even be a white belt in JKD.” It also bears noting that Bruce Lee’s detractors have a timing problem. They make it sound as if Lee had no martial arts credentials and that, after his death, other martial artists tried to “piggyback” on his fame as an actor. But that makes no sense because the best-known martial artists studied under Bruce Lee before he became famous for his movies. If they had all piggybacked after the fact, the detractors might have a case, but Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis and Mike Stone became students of Lee’s after his demonstrations at the 1967 Long Beach Tournament, based on what Lee was doing in the martial arts world, not on his future fame in martial arts movies, which was unknowable at the time. Jim Kelly won Karate tournaments and he, too, trained under Bruce Lee. Jim Kelly said Bruce Lee was: "Untouchable" "the Michael Jordan of martial arts" "the Greatest" "a level above everybody else" Hayward Nishioka was a Judo and Karate expert who told John Little that Bruce Lee was “on a different level” and that “you couldn’t grab him.” Tsutomu Ohshima, the great sensei, observed that Bruce Lee made Japanese karateka look foolish. Mitoshi Uyehara, the founder of Black Belt Magazine, told John Little than “none of them [the other martial artists he knew] were at Bruce Lee’s level.” Bruce Lee performed demonstrations at the George Dillman Karate Institute in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1967. George Dillman, a karate instructor and Muhammad Ali bodyguard, later admitted that he was unable to compare with Bruce. They sparred and Dillman was unable to hit Lee. Skipper Mullins was a Karate expert who was friends with Joe Lewis. Mullins taught martial arts in the Marines and also to FBI agents. He won seven championships and had a career tournament record of around 1,100 wins with only 15 losses. According to his brother Dan Mullins, Skipper Mullins said that he would choose Bruce Lee in any street confirmation and that Lee was a phenomenal martial artist. Bruce Lee did demonstrations at the 1967 Long Beach International Karate Tournament, which was hosted by Ed Parker, a Karate master who taught Karate to Elvis Presley. During his demonstrations at the Long Beach Karate Tournament, Bruce Lee beat Dan Inosanto in an exhibition match (which was recorded). Inosanto later became a Bruce Lee student. Jim Kelley recalled Bruce beating everyone, and the participants included names like Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Jhoon Goo Rhee, Ed Parker, Vic Moore and himself. As further evidence we have the fact that some of the biggest names in martial arts soon became students of Bruce’s after the Long Beach Tournament. In September 1967, Bruce Lee began training martial arts champion Mike Stone. In October 1967, Chuck Norris became a student of Bruce Lee. In January 1968, Bruce began giving private lessons to Karate champion Joe Lewis.
He was a great trainer and Martial artists, but he is not a proven fighter, Bruce Lee would lose to any Top 5 MMA contenders and champions in any MMA organization. People use to debate about who would win Bruce or Chuck.....Well Chuck Norris was tapped out in 45 seconds by one of the gracies, maybe Bruce would of done better or worse but the result would be the same. The idea that Bruce could waltz in into a MMA organization and beat proven fighters in the cage or on the streets have no idea what they are talking about.

How would prime BL fair in the UFC? Probably not very well if he couldn't defend a takedown. However, with training and time, given his ridiculous work ethic, I'm quite sure he would have done very well.

Anyway, what we know:
- he had great technique, as observed through film and demonstrations
- he had the knowledge of many martial arts/fighting. Why would world champions train with him if he had nothing to offer?
- he had the physicality
- he grew up in street fights in HK, so he wasn't a stranger to a fight
What we don't know:
- how well he could apply his principles in an actual fight

We have fallen in love with the theatrics but this man was also the real deal as backed up by many people, Chuck Norris and Dan Inosanto and Robert Wall, just to name a few.
The argument is that you pick him up and drop him into the cage as he was, in which case he'd get wrecked, but yeah I'm sure he had the athleticism and work ethic to hack it. Might have even been champ.

I laughed when i seen the head line.. LOL, I'm still laughing! He would kick your ass Chael!
Shinigami Bruce lee would destroy most mma fighters Just with speed alone
@@INeedJesus55 he won a boxing tournament, and he trained people that went and got belts man , he was black belted in judo , the dude with modern tools would smash anybody
Because his work ethic was mad
Anyone who’s fought understands offence is only half of fighting. Being able to handle a punch or fight through a fractured face or jaw is something Lee never proved he capable of. Nit a fighter he was a Martial Artist/Actor.
@@cherobinson6371 he was in a boxing tournament , he done multiple tournaments of karate , the karate tournaments are online , also if you where Bruce lee back in the day, you would have been constantly challenged, and he was , he was in lots of streets fights , so you just call him an actor but, also he done tons of sparring so actually you believe he is just an actor , but no you have some brain damage , there was no one that would work harder then him you clueless person
The absolute perfect breakdown of Bruce Lee!
Bruce Lees weight was lighter than Mighty Mouse on fight night.... I hope that answers this question
125-135?
A trained from a young age in mma bruce lee would be top class, devastating speed and power, shocking stamina and athleticism, technique etc
Bruce didn't have shocking stamina. Listen to his wife interview when Bruce had a real fight. Bruce got tired quickly because the fight took to long.
@@johna.favata5909 your on crack

News flash..movies arent real.
Bruce was about ending a fight in the fastest way possible. With binding speed, accuracy, and power. You're wrong about this one Chael. Bruce in his prime trained in mma would take anyone in his weight and likely the division above him. My opinion but I truly believe it.
@5AMURA1 I really doubt Bruce Lee could take the undefeated, undisputed Chael P. Sonnen
@@Eric-ih5mb they wouldn't
No he won't
The only division for Bruce Lee’s weight would be woman’s straw though lol. And after watching Joanna and Zheng. I think they’d both take him in today’s world.
@Alex 物の哀れ definitely no one in modern mma but 90's mma he probably could whoop some of them
If we jump into conclusion that someone has got everything figured, then it may be possible that someone can come out and prove that person wrong. There is the likelihood of many talented people... Wonderful analysis
Thank you for this
You're right on the money, Chael.
Bruce Lee himself knew that the biggest argument against would be just that, "but he didn't fight" so he even addressed it and responded "if I say that I am good, you will say that I am cocky, but if I say that I am no good, you know that I am lying"
Check it out, from a multi-time World Karate Champion and the first Kickboxing champion, Joe Lewis (min 4:10)

Gabe Ruettiger?? Maybe?? The "carry me back in coach" guy.
2:10 There were quite a few judo guys cross-training in my karate gym though, in the 90's
Pot-smoken bruce lee fans...
Warren Angub wth was that about...
Warren Angub i swear every fan of bruce lee smoke weed
Bruce can also train like any other fighter. He's a freak of an athlete, more so than Reyes, so if he fought, definitely had a chance to become champ to the highest of levels.
cant tell if ur trolling or not
@@jcbsalexyahoo I don't think he is honestly
Reyes is not a freak athlete he lost to volkan
Bruce Lee would’ve been the kind of guy who constantly adapted his game he would’ve made himself an elite level wrestler to back up his striking he always looked for ways to evolve as a fighter
This question is in the same vein when talking about which fighters would win if you picked them from different eras.
Short answer: No. He would not beat a high level MMA fighter of UFC caliber. No matter the weight, height etc. He would lose very easily to any top 10 bantamweight.
A really good college wrestler would beat him.....sorry
There is a video of bruce in an exhibition sparring match, and his striking is on point in that
JCVD was a real fighter before he went into movies. So dont get it twisted.
Modern day NFL players would kill old school NFL players. It was a DIFFERENT time. Bruce is still a damn legend.

He was not the 1st...just the most famous.
I have to agree with Chael, Bruce Lee was ahead of his time and an early fore father of MMA but Bruce Lee has nothing that would challenge pro MMA fighters in this day and age.

Wow, great and honest assessment of Bruce Lee from Uncle Chael!
Some people say Bruce lee could beat Jon Jones. Absolute nonsense.
Chael goddamit if you had him train some grappling and told him the rules he would learn quick and be a beast

Also, we know Bruce Lee sparred with karate experts, and we know what karate experts said about him…
In 1960 at age 19, Bruce fought Yoichi Nakachi, a Japanese black belt in Karate and Judo. He looked like he was dead."
Most of Bruce Lee’s other interactions with Karate experts were more of the sparring variety. And we know what Karate experts who sparred and trained with Bruce said about him…
Chuck Norris won six consecutive middleweight Karate championships and opened a chain of Karate schools, but he became a student of Bruce Lee. Norris told Black Belt, “The truth is Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiselled physique and technique… Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size.”
There is a 1973 handwritten letter from Chuck Norris to Bruce Lee, on Norris’s official letterhead, in which Norris admitted that he was a student of Bruce Lee and said it was a privilege to learn from him.
Take care, Chuck”
William Cheung said Bruce Lee defeated Chuck Norris and that Norris became Lee’s student after he was defeated.
And Joe seemed to confirm this himself…
Joe Lewis, voted by top fighters and promoters as the greatest karate fighter of all time, was awed by Lee’s speed and ability.
In a video Joe Lewis said, “He had blinding speed, especially with his hands.”
Joe Lewis has a video on CZcams titled “What Bruce Lee Taught Me.” Now he teaches others what Bruce Lee taught him.
So if these guys were willing to train under Lee…?”
In the comments Dave Owens observed: “A buddy of mine is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. You just about have to get a black belt in each discipline before you can even be a white belt in JKD.”
It also bears noting that Bruce Lee’s detractors have a timing problem.
Jim Kelly said Bruce Lee was:
"Untouchable"
"the Michael Jordan of martial arts"
"the Greatest"
"a level above everybody else"
Hayward Nishioka was a Judo and Karate expert who told John Little that Bruce Lee was “on a different level” and that “you couldn’t grab him.”
Tsutomu Ohshima, the great sensei, observed that Bruce Lee made Japanese karateka look foolish.
Mitoshi Uyehara, the founder of Black Belt Magazine, told John Little than “none of them [the other martial artists he knew] were at Bruce Lee’s level.”
Bruce Lee performed demonstrations at the George Dillman Karate Institute in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1967.
