What Your Insurance Company Doesn't Want You To Know Regarding Your Insurance Claim

  • Whether your property damage is minimal or extreme it is important to contact your insurance company promptly to discuss your claim. It is important to be prepared to present your claim because regardless of how well you know your agent and how well you pay your premiums, the first response may not properly address all the damage. The goal is always to get back to the original condition of your property, no better and certainly no worse. Insurance companies often find ways to deny your claims or offer very small values that clearly won’t cover all of the damage. Many policyholders see how long it takes to get that far and it discourages them from challenging the denial of their insurance claim. Insurance companies expect this; therefore, they often deny, delay, or defend claims. Insurance companies know there are not many who will search through their policies and seek outside sources to help them through the stressful process. Insurance properties seek profit so they aren’t always going to cover all that they should based on the policy and the premiums you pay. It is in your best interest to search and see if you can push your claim and receive greater coverage for the damage.

Rates go up regardless of claims filed or not because insurance doesn’t want any responsibility for loss, they will just pass that loss on to other customers and keep raising premiums for everyone else to avoid dipping into their profits, Which are quite substantial because they invest money from all the premiums to make more money; it is a wealth building scheme, it is never about covering losses. What they advertise and what they do are in absolute conflict with each other. Insurance is the racket of the century.

The government bails corporations out but not corps as in dead bodies. A mortgage is a death pledge. Why do they call dead bodies corps then turn around and call a dead entity a corporations? Where do dead bodies end up? At the Mortuary. Mortgage is a pledge you stay dead. The whole trickery of it all is you don't even know you're dead spiritually. But that was your pledge.

Even the small ones will have billions in cash sitting around. I'm not one to put pressure on them just because, that cash is there in case a large storm event happens and there's a few hundred thousand or million full rebuild payouts that need to happen (until they hit their reinsurance deductible, at least).
But given how many of them weakly pretend that they don't owe for coverage specifically listed in the policy? No sympathy whatsoever. If they just paid fairly the first time, there'd be no issue. But way too many times I've heard the exact thing happen in training meeting that Nicole describes - deny all the claims, we don't pay for X despite code requiring that material to be installed and the policy covering code, send everyone nothing or a few hundred for repairs - then the 15/20% that put up a fuss, okay, fine we'll look at the photos of damage and see if we actually owed you for proper coverage.
Really needs to be an expensive class action payout to make all of the homeowners whole that have been screwed over year after year.

Another thing I worry about is that if I insist on a complete pay out for damage, even when it complies with the terms of the policy, the insurer will raise my rates. One time I called in to ask about the feasibility of starting a claim and had my rates increased even though I never filed the claim!

Apparently once you file a claim, it's classified as a claim no matter if it's denied, under your deductible, or anything paid out. Sad state of affairs. I would move for the maximum legal payout with no deductions. I am dealing with Liberty Mutual. I have already filed a department of insurance complaint. If I don't get resolution over what is a simple wind damage claim, I'm going to hire a lawyer and they can pay that cost as well. I joined the premium linkedin and also emailed the CEO of Liberty Mutual naming names and telling him of my displeasure with the competence and attitude

I am suppose to get a depreciated value.. but I have not finished some of my own repairs to the roof.. some roofing companies wont fix other stuff involved with the damages that was done especially inside.. so I am puzzled.. on what to do.. anyone have an idea?

This is the conversation that I had with my State Farm Roof Appraiser this morning, " The State Farm Roof Hail Storm adjuster denied that my roof is damaged severely for a new roof. Even-though several of my neighbors on my street have and have gotten new roofs.
The State Farm Adjuster mentioned that I should take the $2800.00 dollars that they are paying for the damages to my roof and put it in the bank instead of getting a new roof that I do not need.
This sounds very frustrating to me since my insurance rate may increase to pay for all the new roofs that my neighbors have gotten. My roof is approximately 10 years old. Insurance companies are guaranteed to make a profit.
For now I will wait and see how much State Farm Insurance will pay for my roof damages. Also, recommend that I removed the diverter on my gutter that could cause the leak in my gutter.
Now I have two State Farm Insurance adjusters that have turned
down my claim for a new roof. They make me feel like my neighbors claims are not Ligitimate and I that my neighbors are taking advantage of the insurance industry.

Lesson here is to do what they said...self-insure. Buy the lowest REQUIRED insurance policy your Bank/State requires. Take the savings and open an investment account which you could tap if needed for personal losses. The money in said account should be invested like the regular Insurance company invests. This information is available. Simply build a portfolio which mirrors theirs. Mirror what warren Buffet Geico is buying. Eventually move to a 100% self insured model by paying off your loan.

I can relate to your despair. I had State Farm & I had a huge tree branch fall in my home. Didn’t do as much as it could have if it had fallen straight down. This was 6/2021. The adjuster came out & everything that I showed was damage, he asked, “Are you sure it wasn’t like this before?” Basically, calling me a liar. I was so hurt! This was my first home claim after 32 years & 3 homes with State Farm. So this should show everyone the kind of company they are! They are not a good neighbor at all! The adjuster low balled my claim, I learned that they had increased my deductible without my knowledge. It went from a $1000 deductible to a percentage based deductible, which turned out to be $3000. When he finished my claim, I would get $500 reimbursement claim for debri removal & $500 for the damage to my home. Now you want to talk about low-ball? This is outright theft! Then to add insult to injury they cancelled my insurance for damage that is filed under the claim. For example fix railing on deck. The tree tore the railings down, this is covered under my claim that you won’t agree to settle. They canceled my homeowners with an open claim. It is nearly impossible to get another company to insure you with an open claim! Anybody know the steps to take to get all my records including pictures? My requesting hasn’t seem to help at this point. An attorney is my next stop. This has been the worst experience of my life!

@ Ricardo Trejo Please get 3 estimates from different roofing companies with detailed estimates. Go with who you like & tell State Farm to pay. Call everyday, keep records of date, time called & first & last name of who you talked to & what they told you. You just may need a lawyer as well. Did any of your neighbors have State Farm, if so, talk to them about the process. Used who they used. Believe it or not, contractors & the insurance adjusters know each other. The adjuster is hired to save STATE FARM money regardless of the cost to YOU the customer. I was told the squeaky wheel gets the worm. Do not let them promise you something that they won’t send you in an email. Ask for telephone # & emails of persons you talk to & about what. Keep all this information in one place. Do not tell them anything you know, or do much talking to them. Do not accept that measly amount for your roof. Stay in them everyday until they pay you to go away. Otherwise, get a lawyer if they won’t cooperate. Report adjusters to your state insurance commission only after claim is settled. You can report adjusters to your agent & ask for them to escalate your complaint to someone higher up in company. You can also file a complaint against your agent at 1-800-State farm. You should get a case # if they are filing a legitimate complaint. Keep records & ask for emails & letters as forms of communications, so you will have proof of what they said they would do as opposed as to what was done. Open all letters immediately write on each page & envelope it came in “received in mail in 5/3/22” then make copies of everything, including envelope & keep neatly in separate place. Keep it need so you can refer back to things. Now you have a file to show a lawyer as well. Let me know how things are going for you after trying these tips.

Call back. Tell them first two adjusters were incorrect. Ant damages since the claim? Time and date everything on a legal pad. They will send another adjuster. If you hire a public adjuster they will take 15% off the top of settlement to pay him. Another scam. Call the insurance Commission in your state. File a complaint. Were they unbiased? Apparently state farm is bad. Lookup Chad Wilson on CZcams. He's a lawyer that sues these companies and wind. Hope I helped you. Don't give up. There weak people. Remember desk adjuster is not out in the field. Cool.

How do I find out if the lawyer ripped me off. Noone would speak to me because I told them I had an attorney. So where do we have so I know there was bad faith and deceptive practices. Insurance required tree to be cut, tree service dropped a heavy limb on roof. Roof started leaking and insurance claims 150 as scope of damage to paint over water stains. Painter came out and said 300 to paint over water damage. After contacting dept of Ins about increased premiums and the loss that was ignored by insurance. The loss was increased to 620 to replace drywall, does not include exterior damage (bent gutter) or additional work to repair damage to roof. Insulation in ceiling may be water damaged or have mold. Insurance believes a contractor will work several days for next to nothing or just do a bandaid repair to conceal the damage required under the drywall disclosure law. This happened over a year ago and I had a discussion with the claims supervisor indicating the scope of damage was not even close to get a professional to do any work or restore the loss to acceptable standards. If the claim settles for 100K, does that mean the client gets 50K less fees? Or does the claim settle for 200K and the client gets 100K? Huh? I've always wondered what goes into rate increases. Might this have something to do with it? Just a thought.

If I knew I could get my clients 50k instead of the replacement they need for $12k that they are ENTITLED TO per policy requirements, I'd have them all lawyer up on every negligent claim denial. That 50k pays a new roof and then some for proving that insurance denials are often caused by fraudulent adjuster reports or lack of reporting in general.

Yes due to the climate of people suing. Raise your liability on your auto to 250/500 and buy a one million excess PUP. If u accidentally kill someone while driving you are much less likely to be sued for personal assists as the co may pay out the one million PUP. Consult your local agent for required underlying limits. Years ago ins co only required 100/300 auto as underlying limit to a 1m pup. Let’s say you change auto but keep your pup and home with the same co. Now years later that PUP now requires 250/500 auto limits but when you changed auto insurance, they only gave you 100/300 because that’s what you had. Now fast forward to a serious claim. Your 100/300 has a gap and the PUP won’t kick in until the 250/500 limit is met due to you lost the (grandfathered 100/300) underlying requirement. Just make sure your 1m excess LI has the correct underlying limits on your auto and home if you have different carriers for different policies.

Depending on where you live, talk to your family and friends to see if they have a recommendation. If there is someone in your community you respect, ask them as well. If you have used a lawyer in the past for any reason, call that lawyer. He or she probably has a friend or even a law partner who can help!

Unfortunately my home was affected by the recent storm in Texas. My tankless water heater broke causing water to leak into home damaging carpets and baseboards etc...
I started a claim for the damages, but just realized I took out the home owners insurance while living at the home but since then I moved out and put it to rent.
Does the fact that my tenant lives there and not me affect anything?

    • @rockymntain
      @rockymntain Před 3 lety

From my experience, insurance companies want to insure the property as a "rental." This way they aren't on the hook for personal property of someone other than you. They even put clauses in that stipulate that they will not insure a property after sitting vacant for more than thirty days. If you file a claim, you might not want to put it out there that it is being rented out. Have the tenant leave when the adjuster shows up. A renters policy usually covers the structural part of the home and your probably paying more for an "owner occupied" policy. And, if you have the "actual cash value" (vs. replacement cost) on property on the policy you'll be hosed down by the "depreciation."

    • @stephenjohnson5157
      @stephenjohnson5157 Před 2 lety

If the renter is living in the home and you are not depending on the type of policy you have that may not be covered. A homeowners policy is written under the assumption that the owner is living in the home. If that is not the case and you hide that fact from the insurance company, that from my understanding is Insurance fraud. You should have a landlord policy which covers the dwelling and some personal property like utilities (washer, dryer and so on). The renter should carry renters insurance which will cover them for their personal belongings.

How can they lie and manipulate numbers to take people's property. If I did that I'd go to jail for fraud. How come they never do?

They have your money to pay for better lawyers. Even a small insurance company will have billions in cash sitting around. It's not that they have the right, it's that not enough people have gotten together for a class action that will really make some change.

Well, I'm an underwriter for the insurance companies. I'm not an adjuster, but I will tell you that the lawyers are no different. If they recognize that you have a case that may have a potential large pay out, they will drag it out just like the insurance company as long as they can and bill you as many billable hours as they can. Why you ask? FOR MONEY!

    • @Timetravel1111

Not really no. It’s because they’re waiting to get responses back. The attorneys are messaging writing and the insurance companies take forever to respond so no it’s not exactly the same thing. It is so difficult to get a hold of anybody for insurance companies. We had a claim all my neighbors were getting roof repairs done for major storm damages, and I got one phone call from my adjuster and then I could never get a hold of them again emailed phone calls after same thing with the chiropractic office. It is terrible now people are going to these digital and no way to contact someone when you really need to. It’s not like there’s customer service anymore. They hire a few amount of people less and less employees because they get more money and pay less and they think they can get away with it and they do especially after Covid now everybody thinks it’s OK to have a skeleton crew of staff. It’s total BS. PS after I made a claim to get my roof done my rates went up $124 a month. That’s a criminal law against morals and values. It’s terrible.

They keep blaming my phone number being incorrect which I've talked to 3 different people now to correct their error despite me leaving my number in every voice mail. The adjuster has still failed to contact me. The lack of customer service is horrible this time around. I can only assume I am being punished for costing them money. If you read your Mortgage document, you will probably find that the bank requires you to have homeowners insurance. Your mortgage payment probably requires you to escrow money to pay property taxes and insurance premiums. If you don't purchase homeowner's insurance, the bank may have the right to foreclose on your property.

I mean, yeah that's something to consider, but their work isn't free. If they took the claim from "nah, we don't owe for anything" to "fine, you got us, we owed $20k for full replacement" and they take 1/3, you're still in a better spot than you were. I just wish the attorney fee was required to be paid by the insurance company on top of correct claim settlement. Like, I had to hire an attorney to keep you people from defrauding me, and you think I should be stuck with the bill?
Insurance should take a lesson that it'd be cheaper to not play games to begin with. If it went from 10% pushing back to 80% pushing back, with all of the extra expense it'd take them? They'd start playing fair out the gate instead of playing games. Shouldn't be mad at the attorney, should be mad at the insurance for putting you in the spot where you need an attorney.
