I was hooked on your site when you poured the coffee. I’ve been shooting film since the 60’s. Thank you for a wonderful video

Pretty good tips. From the 1950s to the 90s here in the US, I would have added to books, some of the photo hobby magazines. These were wiped out by the transition of interest to digital. They had a lot of advertising and some fairly trivial editorial content, but the basics were taught every year or two. Into the mid-2000s, England still harbored several good magazines focusing on B&W film. Do not know if those survive.

I dont mean to come across blunt, just out of curiosity why do so many photography based videos have some sort of coffee/drink related intro? i see that kingjvpes does it also. A minute of a video wasted watching you make a cup of coffee. Aside from the drink, great video!

ehh its just coz if you go back all i used to drink was instant coffee so its a step up ;) but glad you enjoyed the video

All the past masters were compulsive coffee drinkers. We must study and learn from their habits and daily rituals, so we might someday produce photos as good as theirs.

Baruch Cohen wow, here we go with the mommy insults. how old are you, 11?
You’re trying to tell me that drinking more coffee leads to take you better photos. Doesn’t this sound dumb to you?

Canon Ae-1s are overhyped right now and you can get better cameras for less money but that being said, If you want Aperture Priority, get the Canon AT-1. It is exactly the same camera except aperture priority instead of shutter. I always recommend the Nikon FE/FM cameras over the ae-1 and k1000 (also overhyped). Those Nikon's are much higher-end cameras (built better and were much more expensive when new) but can be found for less $ now than the overhyped cameras

Garvin Kelly I only shoot a Canon ae1 because I inherited it from my father. I took some time away from my canon 5D mark IV and Sony Alpha to go old school. I like the little gadget.

Good tips. One of which I will reinforce- It is often said, that the lens is more important than the camera body. This is true in the digital world, but even more so in the film camera world. Think about it- a film camera body just toggles the shutter curtain. This is true for my Leica M2 as well as my Minolta X-700 and Pentax Spotmatic F. Any well maintained and properly functioning Japanese film camera body, performs exactly the same role as an expensive Leica in flipping that shutter. I would not worry too much about the body as long as it is performing within its specs. Put your money in lenses.

Could not agree more thats why as film photographers we can make images with a box and a hole in it 😉
as fun as it is to play with different cameras it all 100% about the quality of lenses

  • @bcegerton
    @bcegerton Před 4 lety

I’ve picked up a couple of Minolta cameras and some point and shoot ones, dirt cheap, mainly for display but but I picked up a Minolta Dynax Af 5000si with 2 lenses, a flash and bag for £12, I thought I’d give it a go. Now though after watching this film I think I’ll keep a look mouth for a cheap Canon one if I like it as I have a Canon EOS 1300d/Rebel T6 and had no idea my lenses would fit on the earlier 35mm

Great tips, I bought a fujica stx1n for cheap as chips not knowing anything about the brand. The metal body of the 1970/1980 cameras just feel so solid and nice to shoot with. If you see camera in good condition for a few quid with a lens you don't have much to loose - just don't rush & wait for the bargains.

Started with film photography, 1 years ago, with a Nikon F55, beacause i have a Nikon digital system and a lot of lenses, so at that time i thounght it could be a good choice. First roll was so bad, 'cause the lightmeter didin't worked well; so the next one was an Olympus OM10, which i really love, and i suggest to everyone! By the way, the Praktica is a good camera, but you have to pick a good one, beacause most of the time they suffer about lightleaks, even though i don't like Penatcon lenses. My favourite combo, right now, is Zenit B with Helios 44-2 f2.0.

  • @analog_process3156

New subb, going through your videos. great stuff. Jaw dropped at 2:36, literally ordered my first film camera (currently shooting FUJI X-E1) this past weekend and guess what it is? drum roll please, a PRAKTICA Super TL2! Can't wait. Fell in love with the aesthetics and can't afford an Olympus OM-2N or PENTAX MX yet (hopefully by end of year) but wanted to get stuck in without waiting anymore. Can't wait for the delivery. Great content mate. TC

Hey, if you want to improve your coffee even more I would recommend getting cone filters that are compatible with v60 and getting freshly roasted coffee from local roasteries (or subscription from Pact if you live in UK). The easiest thing that you can do is to bloom your coffee - first, pour enough water to cover the beans and let it sit for about 30 seconds; after that time pour in the rest of the water. It allows to release the CO2 trapped inside the beans and enhances its flavours.

Thank you so much for this video, loving your channel! Just getting started with film and these videos are super helpful!! I'm starting from scratch and wondering as far as lenses for the camera go-would you recommend the lenses for the Minolta X-700 or the lenses for the Canon AE1? (or can't go wrong either way?)

I don't know why but when I take a digital image it just isn't quite as satisfying as using a film camera. Kind of like decaff coffee, looks like coffee, smells like coffee, even tastes like real coffee but it's just not quite the same.....
