    • Easy Binding Tutorial ...
NOTE: Please keep in mind that this is just ONE way to demonstrate how you could go about making a simple journal, and [of course!] you can change things about it to make it suit you! There are never any rules it is all about personal preference!
I made this video specifically for those of you that are beginners, that have asked about making journals and where to start.
This video doesn't go into great detail, however I hope it can help you break down the steps and make your project less intimidating!
There are SO many different ways to do these things, and there is no right or wrong! Learning your own techniques and style comes simply from trial and error. And the best part is you can usually use what you already have on hand, especially if you are just learning, or practicing your technique.
Here are some binding tutorial videos I believe to be very informative:
    -Marianne Kensington (poketfullofvintage):
    • Video
Sea Lemon DIY channel she has multiple tutorials on different binding methods:
    / sealemondiy
    SUPPLY/MATERIAL LIST:
    - recycled cardboard (cereal box, biscuit box, packaging etc)
    - Paper trimmer (Mine is American Crafts)
    -Scissors
    -PVA glue
    - cover decoration (I used scrapbook paper but you could also cover yours with wrapping paper, plain paper, paint, newspaper etc)
    - inside pages (I used scrapbook paper scraps but you could use anything you have including plain copy paper, newspaper, wrapping paper, junk mail, brochures, note paper, etc)
For binding you will need a needle, awl, thread and possibly a ruler, pencil and paper if you wish to make a template, please see my binding tutorial for more details.

Hi Patricia, I am just replying to you as I am 76, and have been making journals for over two years now. I am in the process of writing little stories for my great grandchild, and I think this is a lovely way to do things. I began after a car accident, and became very absorbed in it. You will love it once you get going.

      Right? :)
I found old letters once that my grandmother & grandfather send each other while he was in a clinic for his alcohol-problem.
I asked her, of course, if I could read them & she happily agreed.
I read them to her & it was beatiful to see her relive everything, all those good memories of her husband who passed long ago.
He was a good person & tried hard to get better for her and their children.
They loved each other unconditionally & it was amazing to be able to read those things! :)

the lego you stepped on. I had a similar experience recently, I found a journal my grandmother had when she was in high school. She passed 7 years ago, I couldn’t ask her for permission but my dad eyeballed it, and it didn’t have anything personal, just reminders, events, recipes, and notes of classes, I even found some poems and signatures from her friends when she was young. It certainly made me cry, it made me realize all of the things i didn’t knew about her, all of the memories that journal held and was now in my hands, her life, her identity, something only pages can conceal now that she’s not here. It’s beautiful. And it has inspired me to start my own journal. I want to be remembered.

If you do it very carefully, you'll see that your abilities, knowledge and confidence slowly rises during every step you make. Good luck :D If you want to see a guy who learned out of nothing through hard work how to make one of the most astonishing and beautifull notebooks on the world, go see Stopan channel. I don't have the time to watch someone looking for their supplies, phones ringing, tv and kids in the background. Some explain what they are going to do and don't even start the project for 7-8 minutes, then there's 20 min of paper cutting. The only complicated process was the binding and you gave references. Again, very professionally done! Now I will watch again. Thank you

I consider myself a pretty creative person, I do a lot of DIY's, I draw, paint, ect, and I write a LOT. I'm currently working on my second novel (just to give you guys an idea of what/how much i write. I'm not trying to brag I swear) But, despite all that, every time I've used a journal, I've hated it. I just never had any enthusiasm. About 5 months ago I started a bullet journal, and I LOVE IT. SO MUCH. Yeah, but journals in general just weren't for me.
    (I have a point I promise)
Your vids have made me want to try to journal properly. I've got loads of notebooks and stuff around, and I think I'm going to challenge myself to start journaling in one of them. Nothing crazy, just one or two bits of drawings or writings a day.

I really like this tutorial and how you put pockets on the pages you have string on. That way you dont see the string. I just started learning about this journal style this week. I wish I had know this when the kids were growing up. I love crafting and making new things. I do tutorials as well. Crafting is passion.

Your way of doing art reminds me of myself. I'm not usually precise, instead I just eyeball measurements and go with the flow. And I thought I was being messy and disorganized. But seeing your amazing work, it affirms me that, yeah, we just have our own ways of going about things 🌟 I'm inspired.

One of the best simple videos I’ve seen on how to make a quick simple journal. Thank you so much. I’m already imagining taking out my seed beads and adding them to the exterior binding as I go along. Now I just have to buy some papers, as I don’t scrapbook and don’t have scraps. I do however, paint. Maybe I’ll add some of my old discarded paintings, or old book pages, or see what pretty magazine pages I could use. You’ve got me running to my pantry to see what box I can abscond with.

Love the ideas e.g. of using scraps for the pages, large hair clips to hold the pages, how to make pockets etc
and especially reusing a cardboard box for the journal cover.
Stitching the signatures, I will need to replay a few times and look at other videos to help do this,
but I got the general idea. Thanks for all the information. Awesome.
