    This music makes my studying seem so much more dramatic and intense...
    But seriously, Thomas Newman knocked it out of the park with this score

    This movie has affected me so much that I just can’t get my head around it that it’s so good. It’s gotta be one of the best movies to come around at this time.

      It's a stone cold classic of a film and one of the most beautiful and emotional in years. The music, directing, photography and British understatement in the performances just sends it off the charts. I can't remember the last time I was so moved by a movie. I wasn't the only person with tears in my eyes at the showings I went to. The fact it was made for just $90 million, a third of the Rise of Skywalker and infinitely better is amazing.

    “Sixteen Hundred Men” is very “Journey To The Line”ish and I absolutely love it. “The Night Window” is my second favorite song of this score.

    Thomas Newman is like THE genius for scoring films, I've been loving his soundtrack work since Finding Nemo, that he was also composer, was released on video. He knows the music to make you move and involves emotional depth like in Skyfall, American Beauty and WALL-E

      Otherworldly and eerie, like entering limbo. It definitely left a mark on me. Best depiction of the concept of NML's I've ever seen (and I've watched my fair share of WWI related media)

    See, I was wondering why "1917" gave me such an intense, uprooted sensation... Beyond all the horrific scenes of war-ravaged land and people, the music felt so... rawly *familiar*. Especially "Milk", with its' innocuous title, "Gehenna" and "The Night Widow" made me remember something.
    1994. The Shawshank Redemption.
    Thomas Newman scored tracks for both films, and I could feel it in my *soul*, those incredible melodies are in my memory for good. Dark, stoic, low, and heroic. All such breathtaking scores. War, prison, both dark and awful places, and these tracks perfectly suit both. But never forget, hope is a good thing.

      I agree completely. Yes the Joker also had a very effective score but it was quite simplistic and not on the same level as Newman's score. It won because of political agendas.

      Art is not made simply to win awards or to compete with other art. All of it should be appreciated and enjoyed.
      Joker had an excellent powerful score and Parasite was a fantastic and clever film. Neither of these facts (nor them both winning Oscars) takes anything away from the power and emotion of 1917 and its excellent score. You can enjoy one without having to be angry at another.

    Over the course of WW I, 880,000 British forces died, 6% of the adult male population and 12.5% of those serving. It was a catastrophic loss of human life and one that Britain never truly recovered from.

    In Spring 1918 during the German Offensive the Devonshires were surrounded but allowed enough time for the French and British to regroup. The held off the Germans and allowed their entire corp to retreat. 29 officers and over 550 men were killed. Almost the entire unit was wiped out. Only 40-80 men survived

      @AnHonestDoubter Před 4 lety

      @@Thesaeed23 for myself, I felt the film was so visually stunning that the non-stop dialogue and emotionally-cueing music broke the maxim of "show don't tell." To be fair, I thought the music was much better than the dialogue, which I found clumsy and saccharine. This is why I so much love masterpieces like "The Thin Red Line," as there is very little dialogue. Also films like "No Country for Old Men," which have zero soundtrack and so it lets the atmosphere and plot provide the cues for the audience.
