    I think it’s funny how many times people say the words “i thought this was a disney movie” not realizing how disney has always had darker themes, messages and events despite the cute and lovable characters which adds to the animation is for everyone not just children, it’s just an accessible medium for multiple audiences. Frozen is a perfect example of it! Glad y’all have noticed it too

    • @Celestia282
      @Celestia282 Před 5 měsíci +12

      Not "always." They go through phases. They'll make movies with darker themes, but then when the movies start pushing too far, they'll lighten up and make fluff movies for a while. Then when those don't make enough money due to being too shallow, they'll start adding depth of story and darker themes. It goes in cycles, usually lasting around 10-20 years. The current trend of deeper movies started with Tangled, so we might be nearing the end of it, especially with all the controversy and fire that Disney has received from the conservative side.

    The Hans reveal is one of my favorite disney villain moments because when I first watched frozen I knew he wasn't Anna's true love obviously. But I thought they were going to pull a, he kisses her, but it doesn't break the spell thing. I was not prepared for him to actually have been calculating and manipulative this entire time from the get go.

      If the movie had come out a few years later I might've seen it coming, him proposing to her on the first day was a big red flag and his motivation was spelled out when he said he was essentially the runt of the litter. But because when it came out Disney wasn't really subverting expectations, I predicted their love wouldn't be genuine, but not that he was actually using her the whole time.

      Some people say he's a bad twist villain, but I honestly think they nailed it here. They set it up with the potential for him to be bad, but then he spends the rest of the movie doing outwardly nice things and 'proving' himself to be good. All his actions do serve his self interests in the end, to make him look like the best option as the ruler to look up to in this crisis. You can't predict someone can be THAT conniving until they show their hand.

    Someone mentioned it, Tangled and Frozen are in the same universe. But also, Rapunzel and Flinn are at the Coronation in Frozen. You can see them walking into the main gate when Anna is singing outside.
    Elsa and Anna's parents were on their way to Rapunzel's wedding. The theory is they're cousins. It was mentioned in the reaction, that Tarzan is their brother, but also part of the theory is the ship Ariel searches in their ship. The theory goes pretty far.

      I remember watching this movie in theatre and almost immediately twitching in my seat out of.. memories. Wicked was out during my time in high school (even saw it on Broadway for a senior year band trip) and, dear god, did it overtake high school music culture.. although, my senior year, Rent eventually took that space over (and "five-hundred, twenty-five thousand, six-hundred minutes" is permanently etched in my brain thanks to my HS band's clarinet section). But man, it's hard not to hear Let It Go and just get flashbacks to Defying Gravity. Pity the song got overplayed to the point *everyone* got burned out on it.
      Frozen's still tied with Tangled for my favorite recent Disney movie (although I'm biased and say Tangled, 'cause I'm a sucker for good villains and good villain songs.. and the Mother Knows Best reprise in Tangled scratches an itch that nothing in Frozen unfortunately could).

    - Hans Christian Andersen’s name was used for 3 characters first being the villain Hans, Kristoff is a reference to Christian, & Anna is from Anderson (Gerda is the name of the protagonist in the book)

    FUN FACT: I have the extended soundtrack where the song writers talked about a story arc called "The heir and the spare" where Anna is always the "other" princess. It really plays up an even bigger story between the sisters... where Anna is so focused on her problems she doesn't see how Elsa is suffering and likewise Elsa is so focused on her problems she doesn't see how Anna has been suffering. When Anna talks about Elsa coming back... the fight is about each complaining about the other not understanding their troubles. Later, when Anna is dying in the room, she and Elsa (out in the ice field) are singing a song where they are now understanding how rough it would have been for the other sister and how they regret not resolving these issues before now and may not get the chance at this point. It's a great song and I wish they had kept it to really give even more dimension to the relationship between the sisters. :)
    Early on there was a great song called "More than a spare" sung by Anna which I wish they had kept.

    Frozen is a great movie. People forget what i was like 10 years ago, when it came out. Sure, "Let it Go" might have been played too much, but it's amazing song that resonate with a lot of people. How do you think people felt when Lion King came out 20 years ago ? Don't you think the songs were played too much too ? That's the magic Disney lost for a couple of years now. Frozen and Tangled were the rebirth of Disney after years of movies that didn't worked that much, while other studios started to get some success. Frozen 2 is also an amazing movie that touch me on a deep level when I first watch it, especially "Into the Unknown" and "Show Yourself". So much wording in this movie that fits the allegory of coming out to family or a community.
    Elsa is told to “conceal it, don’t feel it” (a family telling their kid to hide their orientation out of fear), to be isolated from her sister for a decade (fear that one person’s sexuality will lead them to hurt others), and of course her changing her outfit from something she was always MADE/TOLD to dress like, to something that feels more like her, finding one’s identity. There’s also the fact Elsa was one of the few Disney princesses that doesn’t end up with a prince, and while her and Ana’s relationship never goes down a taboo route, they still reforge their relationship as sisters, and that still checks off for a good ending for 2 same-sex characters, even if they aren’t romantically involved.
    Disney will-of course-never claim those metaphors as being true, but they do match the unfortunate reality many queer youth have faced, and still do.

    • @lukasr5867
      @lukasr5867 Před 5 měsíci +3

      There are many things people are (made to be) ashamed of or afraid of others finding out, not just ones sexual desires. Some just because their social norms don't allow it, some that are actually bad (or at least dangerous, as in this case). While the parents went a bit over board (pun intended), asking her not to use her magic (while still a kid), at least while unsupervised, seems quite reasonable (just like you wouldn't let kids play with powertools while you're not there with them).
      I'm pointing this out because viewing this story as allegory for sexual concealment vs freedom would actually mean that, in the beginning, they DID go down the "taboo route", as you put it, Elsa and Ana doing "the thing" together and Elsa even "shooting" on Anas face at the end. And I don't even know what that would turn Olaf into. Sexualizing this isn't really that wholesome ...
      So, I'd rather keep it as a story about general shame that everybody can see their own personal shame in and maybe learn to grow from, rather than focussing it on that one particular issue.

    • @jack5280
      @jack5280 Před 5 měsíci +3

      Even if they wanted to, I don't think Disney would have made this movie an allegory or metaphor for sexuality, because this situation isn't exclusive to that. It's similar, but queer people aren't the only ones who have these scenarios.
      Me personally, this movie related to me on my emotions rather than sexuality.
      I struggle to feel emotions or grasp social concepts, so I was constantly taught methods for how to pretend to act like everyone else without saying or doing creepy things. The problem, though, was that when I did feel emotions, they were too strong, particularly anger.
      I would get angry and black out, hurting classmates without knowing it, once waking up to my friend bleeding from his head on the ground at recess.
      I spent more time around adults than kids, and was taught a lot of different things to handle both issues.
      Of course, this is different from sexuality, since being queer doesn't inherently hurt people on its own. In my situation, I still believe in controlling myself and a bit of concealment is needed to avoid undesirable situations.
      It's better that they keep the movie open to interpretation, so it can affect a larger group of people.

    5:47 The theory, if I remember correctly, goes that Anna and Elsa's parents were on their way to Rapunzel's wedding or something (going from Norway to Germany, basically) and that their sunken ship is the one that Ariel explores in The Little Mermaid (off the coast of Denmark)
    While the theory does also say that they're also the parents of Tarzan, it simply doesn't fit in logically, like, a ship sinking on the way from Norway to Germany off the coast of Denmark makes sense, but a couple where the mom is neither pregnant nor has a baby with her, having a baby boy in her arms right as the ship sinks (engulfed in flames, btw) as they're also suddenly off the coast of Africa somehow? That just doesn't connect (and that's not even comparing the parents visually to tell that Tarzan's parents also looked different from Anna and Elsa's)
    The theory's still great without Tarzan in the mix though, especially considering the Rapunzel and Eugene cameo on the bridge when Anna leaves the castle

    the fact you guys didn't see Rapunzel with her short hair when Anna was opening the gate for the first time while singing rapz was walking by
    also the theory of Tarzan being their brother was due to the fact that when the parents ship was ruined due to the waves its similar to when Anna and Elsa's parents ship sank and survived with only the baby(Tarzan *)

    Before the times of freezers, you had to harvest ice and snow to keep things cool. Ice was a heavy export of nordic countries, norway in particular since they have close access to mountains from harbours. It is why your fridges has ice boxes, cause you put your ice in there to keep it for longer.

    Makes me so happy to see you guys loving the movie! I do understand the annoyance of the songs constantly playing but I enjoy them. Probably helps that I don't have kids so I have full control over how often I hear them 😂. Anyways my point is that it's sad how much hate the movie gets because of the songs. Like I wish they would focus more on the message of the movie like the importance of family more specifically the bond between the two sisters. Like do you have any idea how many Disney movies have done that? Not a lot! 😂

    This movie definitely has an issue or two what with them trying to shoehorn in our man Hans as the twist villain and what not, which is arguably what started the disappointing trend, but I still love it a lot.
    "Let It Go" is, despite being played to death, is definitely a song that you can't help but have a fondness for. It's genuinely like... THE power balad for the antisocial.😂

    • @wiinownaa
      @wiinownaa Před 5 měsíci +3

      Bcs they didn't want to follow the love at the first sight route, they seemed to mock it even in this movie. They were trying to break some routes that the previous Disney movies had.
      1. Love at the first sight
      2. True love
      3. Obvious villain since beginning
      They could easily make the Duke evil, but it would be too obvious. With Hans, they had much more reasons and play with the story line and interaction between the protagonist that made Hans a twist villain. Also, why would you need 2 love stories in one kid movie? The other thing is, Elsa was supposed to be the villain. So, they don't have a love story prepared for her.

    26:44 "Maybe just don't shoot ice at her again."
    I mean the thing is when Elsa and Anna's parents brought them to the trolls, and they told them those "advices" (+ the parents literally isolating Elsa from everyone) - it made Elsa, as a child, believe her powers are dangerous. They never taught her that it can't be JUST harmful. And they only taught her to CONCEAL it, not CONTROL it. So, she grew up with fear that she'll harm everyone unless she stays away like how she built her own castle, far away from everyone to keep herself hidden.

    18:03 since you guys watched the second one, the reason Elsa has it is because since her mom saved her own enemy, the queen was gifted to have her first kid get a gift(connected to the 4 elements where she grew up as northauldrian). Not related to the trolls but it’s believed that book the king grabbed is the same language as what their mom know/grew up with-too hard to spell)
