    From the Roadburn festival website:
"Roadburn Festival is thrilled to welcome Godspeed You! Black Emperor to perform at the 2018 edition of the festival. They will be our main stage headliners on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 at the 013 venue.
Having spent the best part of a decade hoping, dreaming, plotting and planning; this is a band that has topped our own festival wish list for years. Also among the most requested bands by our festival patrons, Godspeed You! Black Emperor have slid smoothly into our collective consciousness, picked apart the very notion of what it means to be a band and teetered on the precipice between serenity and all out chaos. The diversity of their output and their ability to always keep us guessing is a big part of why their inclusion at Roadburn feels like a natural fit.
But despite our absolute delight, a large question mark swings languidly over the 013’s main stage as we wonder what energy the band will be channeling; what version of Godspeed You! Black Emperor will we be hosting next April? The Canadian collective have, over the years, adorned themselves with many different guises; each time they commit something to record they peel back another layer of themselves.
The broad descriptor “experimental” does nothing to uncover the many facets of emotive, sonic expression woven across the band’s five albums, and yet it is perhaps the only word that can attempt to encompass the scope of what they’re all about. Early indicators of their sixth studio album - Luciferian Towers, due out tomorrow, September 22 - suggest that there has been no let up from the complex emotional irrigation by way of tightly packed, intense crescendos and airy, sweeping symphonies.
Whether they are bridging the gaps between genres, or meticulously dismantling them piece by piece is a matter up for debate eternally. Regardless of labels, Godspeed You! Black Emperor have steadfastly trodden their own path, harnessing a punk aesthetic that is embedded in the very fabric of their existence. To the untrained eye it may be barely detectable underneath the swathes of orchestral, cinematic beauty, but it’s more than evident to us kindred souls. They have proven to be an inspiration not only to us as individuals and as a festival, but to many of the bands that have passed through our stages over the years.
Their varied back catalogue makes for rich pickings, should they choose to cycle back through previous representations of the band; should they opt to look forward, into the unknown, we await with baited breath to see what is delivered. With two separate performances scheduled for Roadburn 2018, Godspeed You! Black Emperor will have the space, time and receptive audience to present themselves however they see fit. Their live shows are renowned for being all-encompassing, immersive experiences, where even the visual aspect is overwhelming, usually including film projection performances that gain as much impact to the overall event as the music itself, the two interwoven as one. No doubt their Roadburn performances will be ones for the history books."
