Theorists, did you know Tony the Tiger of Frosted Flakes fame is now a big time VTuber? Well, he is and like any Creator he has to have a fully customized PC to do his gaming on. So what is so special about this that I'm doing a whole Food Theory episode on it? It is his MILK COOLED computer! That's right. Tony is cooling his computer with MILK. Is that even POSSIBLE? We are going to find out!

If I had a nickel for every time a major food company decided to make a gaming computer, I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Are you secretly Dr. Doofenshmirtz?
🤖
A meat pie company in Australia ("Four & Twenty Pies") did it, as well as KFC and the furry-bait cereal company.
You just got 50% richer!!
Yeah, I remember KFC's attempt in making a console that cooks.
Quick fact, here in Mexico they had to remove mascots from all pieces of food in order to stop child obesity, frosted flakes just has a stripe simulating Tony's tail, really interesting stuff, would love for it to be a video
OMG McDonald's has a creepy pedo clown as a mascot, but it's not stopping kids from eating kids meals.

As soon as Tony said it was milk based, I immediately flashed back to Brian David Gilbert's Ultimate Gamer Space, complete with milk cooling system that doubled as his drinking source. Despite the fact as a cereal mascot...well...milk just makes sense; I choose to think Tony is just a big fan of BDG.
I half expected MatPat to bring on BDG to talk about his experience with his milk-cooled pc. thatd definitely be the crossover of the century lmao
Sponsorship money tends to go to his head

Me as well good sir
Bdg trademarked the milk pc this calls for a class action law suit,
Years ago I decided to get a box of Frosted Flakes. Hadn't had them in at least a decade. Looking at the design on the box and the taste I came up with my own Food Theory: The current Frosted Flakes are actually the low sugar Frosted Flakes from years ago.
I wonder how you would prove that. Seems interesting
3:25 The right answer, one which would have both been realistic and satisfied the question in a way that wouldn't upset people, is "both". PC gaming is all about choice, you don't have to use exclusively controller or keyboard and mouse. Some games work better with different input hardware, it's silly to think you can use exclusively one and that you need to swear allegiance to it.
But he’s a cat so of course he needs to use a keyboard and *mouse*
didnt expect frosted flakes to make a pc
Predictable
true XD
He’s a true gamer
i just didnt expect frosted flakes in general

Food theory video idea: What makes a person like or dislike certain foods or the taste of certain foods? And why are people’s opinions so different on it? (I might love a food you hate, vice versa.)
actual good idea there!
I love this idea! Maybe I'll know why I hate onions!
Well I could go on a semi nerdy explanation of this but I got here one minute after post and my specialty is more towards figuring out how to destroy tanks with lucid dream training.

I never expected MatPat to come this close to Dani's content. Amazing work.
HAHA MILK GO BRRRRR.
Just gonna give Mat some big props here. I'm a PC building enthusiast and even while he put in disclaimers that he wasn't an expert on the subject and redirected to other creators like LTT and Jay, this video was fun, enjoyable, and very well informed.
You know 1 person is gonna stop at the halfway point, hear all of Matpats good points, try to use actual milk, and find their PC gets ruined because milk eats away at copper circuits/tubes. There's ALWAYS 1 person...
except none of the coolant touches any electrical components. The loop is just a sepearate part on its own
My main concern with milk as a coolant is the smell. Anyone that's smelled milk that's gone off will know why. Spoiled milk still ranks as one of the top 3 worst scents and I've smelt literal slurry thanks to being near farms.
@@quantumsniper9433 did you watch the video? He did mention that milk corrodes nickel and copper. Can you guess what those water blocks and radiators are made of? It's definitely not made of plastic... at least the ones that are actively conducting and dissipating the heat.
@@triadwarfare and are they circuits? Nope
@@quantumsniper9433 Circuits aren't the problem, weren't even Tony's problem on stream. The problem becomes that the corrosion hampers heat dissipation. His PC burnet up as we watched.

And trix aren't even good. They're the worse version of fruity pebbles and even those aren't amazing. He has an entire channel dedicated to food but his opinions on food are trash
@@a.pigeon …Fruity Pebbles are fucking great and so are Trix. This is coming from a Sicilian 💀
@@ike3466 I mean I'm not the biggest fan of cereal in general so I guess you're opinion is fine, but what does being Sicilian have to do with anything?
@@a.pigeon We have fantastic food. If a Sicilian is praising food that isn’t from Italia, that really says something.
@@ike3466 Yeah, but I don't see why you're acting like fruity pebbles are some gourmet dish. They are fine for what they are but they aren't much more than something you pour yourself in the morning when you don't have time to make any actual breakfast. If I'm having cereal I would definately not complain with fruity pebbles or trix but I'd take eggs and toast over them any day.
Of course you can disagree if you want, I really don't really care about what food you like or dislike, I'm just voicing my opinion is all.
It’s actually WAY funnier to hear a person (or at least MatPat) actually say the “go brrrr” meme out loud, than it is to read it, which has already been hilarious from very early on.

Yes, i agree. MILK AND COMPUTER GO BRŘRRRRR IS FUNNY.
8:33 thermal conductivity is NOT "a lot of heat needed before it's temperature changes". That would be thermal mass or more scientifically, the specific heat capacity.
Both are important in making a good liquid cooler. High thermal mass allows the liquid to carry more heat energy per volume of water and high thermal conductivity allows the heat energy to transfer into and out of the water quickly.
Matpat: that really wacky unit

Tony the Tiger: "it's a *milk-cooled* PC"
MatPat: IT'S THEORY TIME!
Milk is a condenser so.
Mat Pat: we don't cool game consoles with food
Tony the Tiger: milk is technically a drink
I'd like to imagine Tony had his daily breakfast video call with Shaq before streaming.
7:31 on the topic of that linus does literally have a video about cooling a computer with ice water, going as far as having a giant heatsink that goes out the back of the computer, and then putting the computer on it's side to put said heatsink in a bucket of ice water. He does a lot of videos on weird/different cooling methods, the weirdest I'd (personally) say he's done is a concrete-cooled computer.
a random thought of mine: Alot of theory videos are basically: a question, and then an answer, and then a long chain of "but why?" to the answer, going into more and more details, and I love it
Standard procedure I guess 😎

Since Matt mentioned Linus Tech Tips
I'm actually kinda surprised that Linus's team didn't try "Milk Cooling" after that stream.
But also, that would be really off brand on their channel too.
Didn't they already use milk in their concrete cooled pc April fools video though?
It's LTT, they are an entertainment channel focused on tech. They aren't really as PC focused these days, and they already sold out to company marketing departments for companies of the products they review.

9:57 oh my gosh SIMPLYYYY!!
Just an addition for point #2. The overall coolant temp might range from 30-50*c. But at points of contact like the CPU block, or the GPU block it can spike to over 100*c depending on the overclock.
So the temp could curdle milk as well.
I don’t think there’s a gpu in that system
@@leoyamauchi5992 Tony's system? He's running two 3090 founder's editions, probably SLI. It's what the two blue cables are connected to.
They aren't in the liquid loop either, so that's good at least.
thats not how heat transfer works. otherwise the water would boil away every time it came into contact with the the cpu block.
@@agzarah I mean that’s done in industrial cooling systems the water boils away removing heat and then gets put back through a condenser to turn it back into water
Food Theory: “Can Chicken Noodle Soup actually cure sickness?”
@Bully peter thx
It can reduce symptoms and provide your body fuel to fight against your illness... The answer: Kind of.
Warm liquids help a lot, noodles are carbohydrates "the happiness nutrient" and chicken and vegetables help control inflammation. So at least it helps!!
I heard of a scientific study that actually checked this out. I dont remember the detail of the result bur i remember they were surprisingly positive.
That's actually an interesting thought along with alternative medicine.
I've heard that if you believe that it'll cure you, There's a higher chance that your mind would make your body a lot stronger to sickness.
hey, MatPat! I had this thought the other day, and I thought maybe you'd be interested. I think you could make a video about which microwave popcorn brands really have as much (or THE most) butter on their popcorn. Keep up the great work!
Fun food/film history fact: the actor who first voiced Tony the Tiger, Thurl Ravenscroft (from 1953 until his death in 2005), was also the (allegedly accidentally uncredited) singer for the original _How the Grinch Stole Christmas!_ (1966) song, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". He did a slew of voice acting roles for Warner Bros. and Disney, too, so in addition to voicing/singing in classic animations like _Merrie Melodies, Looney Tunes, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats,_ and so on, you might even catch his voice in some iconic Disney attractions at both U.S. parks:
1. The Haunted Mansion -- Uncle Theodore the Singing Bust (lead vocalist)
2. Pirates of the Caribbean
3. Enchanted Tiki Room -- Fritz the Parrot; Tangaroa tiki god
4. The Mark Twain River Boat -- First mate
*Honorable mention -- Buff the American Bison Head from The Country Bear Jamboree (closed in 2001) who now hangs with his two other animatronic head pals in the Jamboree's replacement, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
0:52 I thought that intro was real until this lmao
Quick correction: Thermal conductivity is the speed at which heat travels through a coolant. The amount of heat energy a coolant needs to absorb before changing temperature is called the Specific Heat. A good coolant needs to have high values for both of these properties.
I love how on every theroy channel we get a miniature history lesson, I would love you as a history teacher matpat

Its worth noting that the biggest benefit for water cooling versus air is the decrease of moving parts in the form of more and more fans and the sound they generate. A water pump, while still a potential point of failure, is relatively quiet, and the heat is taken to radiators, larger and farther away than what the air cooling fans can logistically be, and then the fans wicking said radiator can potentially be run at an RPM that's less likely to create any whine that's perceptible over the noise floor. Since streamers need clean audio and a powerful system, they fit in a cross section that would make water cooling a potentially advantageous investment.

hi Matt! since you mentioned Sogginess in milk for flaked cereal. I need to tell you about freezing. if you keep your cereal in the freezer then pour milk over it, your flakes will stay crispy for far longer. This is uniquely good for flakes as they are less likely to clump than other cereals exposed to moisture. but Corn Flakes are the Best and even FrostedFlakes are amazibg when frozen and eaten with milk.
small inaccuracy regarding thermal conductivity at 8:34, thermal conductivity only determines how well a material transfers thermal energy, what was described is specific heat capacity, of which water also has a really high value

PC cooling reminds me of a time I was working as an operator and we had machines that were basically in customer data centers that they were able to access over their own networks to do heavy duty financial calculations. One of them was going down because It was getting too hot and I checked the ambient temperature on it and saw that it was like 90° in the data center. Called up the technical account manager and was like hey your customer's data center has a broken AC so we're shutting down their system. He was like no it's not, I'll figure it out. Minutes later, a call back was made and he's like yeah there AC is broken
10:17 ok, but milk is more expensive than plain water and as someone on a budget I tend to look at performance per dollar.
There isn't a significant enough difference to use a $5 gallon of milk a gallon of tap water is less than $1 and does practically the same thing.
Sure for really small price tags like that it doesn't mean much but with nvidia heavily overly inflating the price of GPUs and scammers selling absurd $1000 HDMI cables you got to look for optimizations that significantly improve performance not just throw away money just for the lols.

Actually, almost all watercooled pc-systems use aluminium radiators (and therefore aluminium waterblocks) due to it being much cheaper to manufacture.
Also, the loop is fully water, and mostly airtight, so I'd expect the smell to be almost non-existent, and I would *assume* that the bacteria couldn't form without oxygen.
As a sidenote, most PCs are actually cooled with coolant, not water, as a safety messure, because the coolant isn't electrically conductive.
You shouldn't assume bacteria can't form without oxygen. Many bacteria are anaerobic, and some can't even survive in the presence of oxygen at all.
A milk-cooled pc already exists, Tony needs to give BDG his credit.
8:35 Thermal conductivity is how good a material is at transporting heat through conduction. Heat capacity is how much energy is required to heat up a given material.
