My favorite part of Rudy opening Pokemon will always watching how the sorting piles change throughout the opening
I loved watching him haphazardly sort the cards. I usually only play MTG with friends and only collect a little, but I know my way around pokemon cards so I'm left wondering if he sorts MTG packs the same way and I just never noticed lol
@@ShinyEevee39 It seems to vary with every box opening haha. One of my favorite comments on an MTG video was something along the lines of "Drinking Game: Take a shot every-time you question why Rudy put a card in a particular pile".

As a Pokémon collector it is that quality - textured cards and awesome sets - what got me into. I was a former magic player and I still am but I like to collect Pokémon much more. I even got my channel about it, but it's a pleasure seeing you acknowledge the quality of the cards. You got an alternate art, that's really really hard to pull in this set.

You are totally right about all the super fancy borderless full art effects everywhere on pokémon cards. I miss the days of the old Pokémon ex, simple, elegant. And that galaxy holo that they don do anymore? That completely hits for me

I got a error card from the lost sword and shield origins booster pack its so crazy no one can believe I have shown. What do I do????..
Some sets have a subset in them - the Charizard for example is from that - Lost Origin Trainer Gallery slotted in the reverse spot before the rare or better

I managed to pull the alternate Umbreon vmax using my loves points on boosters from a truck stop. I need to get it graded. I don't really know what the best path for that is, though.
The vstar card is a gameplay marker to show that the person has played their vstar Pokémon for the game, Pokémon uses the code card with different backing styles (black or white) to mess with the weights of the packs to make them unweighable
the cards like the charizard and spiritomb are from the trainer gallery subset of the set which is why you can get that and a v/vmax in the same pack

The Perserker V full alt art is worth about $40-50. It's one of the chase cards of the set. The biggest is the full alt art Giratina being about $200.

The reverse foil, as it's called is the slot before the rare slot. It can be any rarity, as well as in some of the newer sets things like the Radiants, the "showcase".

Pokemon has its fair share of exclusive products. The biggest one recently is the celebrations ultra premium collection. MSRP I 119.99 if you were ever lucky to find one in the wild, but instantly was reselling for 300-400.

The nice thing that helps Pokémon TCG is that people buy packs and booster boxes without any expectation of value or ROI, like so many in MTG these days. A lot of kids just want to open packs and parents/grandparents/relatives have no problem buying packs for them. Plus, it has the backbone of a cartoon property that is known and watched worldwide. And yes, Pokémon did crash and burn after the highs - mid-level to more available high-level graded cards have dropped 50% or so... some ETBs were $60+ and some booster boxes were $150+ and then Pokémon reprinted a bunch of old sets and now ETBs are $30-$35 and those same boxes dropped to $110 or so - which is great, Pokémon shouldn't be super expensive for kids to play.
The main difference is the general Pokémon community rallies against scalpers and sealed investors - and the Pokémon Company will go back and reprint sealed product. Very different hobbies with different markets that overlap some. So yes, people will still buy sealed Pokémon product at MSRP, but the value you get out of sealed product is much lower than in MTG generally.

Galarian Perrserker was a slight miss on the other possible Alt Arts.. but you don't always get one per case. So it's still insane from one box.
Also, Im pretty sure pokemon has been doing texture for over 5 years now

I see what you mean about mtg vs poke, but poke msrp is ~140 with costs at a level that can endure the market when they languish around $100/box; with mtg's increased cost, buying in around market price isn't sustainable

Yeah, for some reason Rudy doesn't mention that Pokémon booster boxes are widely available at $100-$110 a box - and there is a lot of stock on shelves now. The Pokémon Company heavily controls what booster boxes can be purchased at (higher than MTG), so most LGSs and online retailers cannot take such a huge hit and fire sell them at $80 let's say - but that did happen throughout the last few sets (LGSs were losing money on some booster boxes and ETBs of Battle Styles, Chilling Reign, Fusion Strike, Celebrations, Pokémon Go and even Champion's Path depending on when they bought it and when Pokémon reprinted it). So not sure what "doing well" means to Rudy lol.
MTG has now adopted a similar pricing structure with Dominaria United - not quite as high as Pokémon, but higher than before. Thus, not many DMU set booster boxes are below $110 and draft boxes below $95.
