Purdue is Back and Better Than Ever

  • Purdue basketball had one of the most shocking losses last year in the NCAA Tournament when they became just the second #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed in Fairleigh Dickinson. A lot was made over their style of play and the pitfalls that led to their early March demise, but that hasn't stopped them from being one of the best teams in the country in 2024. Behind likely repeat Wooden Award winner Zach Edey, and an improved backcourt group in guys like Braden Smith, Lance Jones, and Fletcher Loyer, Purdue looks just as good as last season, and dare I say, even better.

      Don't let people's BS talk get you down and especially don't buy in. Smith and Loyer were both freshman going into NCAA tournament as starters. They have the experience now and have proven themselves. They won't repeat the loss of last year. Go Boilers.

    Ready to see Braden Smith and Loyer go absolutely crazy in the tournament like Cline and Edwards did in 2019. Like 25+ point games from both,50% from 3 for both in multiple games. If they do that along with Edey scoring high + Lance Jones and Kaufman, they could win it all. Would make for such an entertaining tournament.

    Great analysis, Braden Smith with a great season (4th in assists nationally). Good highlight selection as well, I remember seeing lance jones' handles in the backcourt live and new it was a highlight.

    I’ve been a Purdue fan since Painter took over as a 2005 alum. We’ve had some horrible luck but I like our chances this year because we actually have strong guard play this year. 🚂⬆️

      Yep. Smith and Jones are so valuable. Plus they have guys who can punish teams for sending multiple defenders at Edey.

    Great video! I have been following Purdue since 1981 and this is the best I have seen. I predict a slow start to the NCAA tournament but strong finish with double digit wins in the final four and championship game! BOILER UP!!

    Lance Jones has made this team better, giving Purdue the athletic wing playmaker that they lacked last year. However, this team looks like a second weekend team at best this year. I still think they're susceptible to teams that can spread them out, athletic guards, and a different kind of whistle in tournament play than what they've seen in the B1G. Keep in mind, last year there were ZERO #1 thru #3 seeds in the final four, and this year has been even more chaotic. There are no great teams, but there's lots of good ones. I'd be surprised if there's more than one #1 seed in the final four this year. For the record, I dont expect UCONN, who IMHO has the highest ceiling of any team this year, to make the final four either because repeating is so difficult in this sport.
    But, good luck. Purdue is good and they'll be a tough out.

    • @BobbyDouglasBasketball
      @BobbyDouglasBasketball  Před 3 měsíci

      Right now I'd have UConn winning it all. With the repeat thing, UConn is gonna be the first title team to improve their seed by 2+ lines since Florida. I kinda just think they might've gotten better (relative to the sport).

    My age . I walked to class at Purdue behind Joe Barry Carroll who went to the final four my Freshman year. We've been stopped in the tournament when we're awesome by mostly injuries or all star future NBA players. Mitch Richmond killing us when we had Troy Lewis, Mitchell and Stephens, the year a pre-senile DickVitale pronounced us the best backcourt in the country. Grant Hill going off against Big Dog. There were others. Santa Clara raping and injuring Isaac Haas, instituting the hook and hold technical the next year. End of season baby Boilers we're playing as well as any team I've ever seen when Hummel went down, ending any realistic chance at a deep run. That's why Braden pogo stepping and collapsing brought this old man's heart right into his throat. Because I really, truly believe this Purdue team could beat ANY of those teams I mentioned. I don't think a future NBA star will be able to stop us. Only two things, in my mind, possibly can. Purdue getting in our own heads and forgetting we're top five national three point shooting team, or injury. If we remember we're good and play focused and loose, and aren't injured, I think this is my best chance since 1980 of seeing Purdue in the Final Four. That being said, I can barely sleep this week for fear of Grambling and some stupid ref fouling us all out calling fouls when their out of control guards go crashing wildly through the lane with no plan other than heave the ball in the air and snap head back and scream. Nightmares.

    Great video, this 2024 Boilermaker team is the best team in the country.
    The only thing that can stop them is the tournament refereeing. That is referees that allow Zach Edey to be fouled and restrict his movement as being unfamiliar with his size and agility. But that said, he has teammates that need to just score more to overcome poor officiating. Boiler up and Hammer down!

      Yeah it's funny I get both sides of the Purdue Edey refs complaint. I think it just comes down to the refs have never really seen a player like Edey so it's hard to officiate consistently.

    Purdue has had bad luck with its best team’s . Robinson’s pulled back muscle, both Hummel knee injuries, and the hook and hold that broke Haas’s elbow. Last years list was hard to stomach because they just fell apart. This team seems like they are hungry and they are more battle tested.

      You'll never get better value in bracket pools than picking the 1 seed that lost to a 16 seed the previous year to win it all.
