One thing I appreciate about your reviews that I've only realized lately is your commentary pacing. You're very aware of when you comment, and that allows the song to breathe alongside your commentary. I've always gone to your reactions first because your taste is closest to mine, but also you're the most viewer-friendly reactor in the field right now. Props to you, I'll be sticking here for the long haul

Definitely agree. I've seen other reviewers show themselves listening to the whole song and only speak a couple times throughout. Really appreciate that Adam's commentary is thoughtful and he doesn't show all the excess time in between comments.

I think Oxygen is really underrated. Starlight is also my other favourite. If We'll Ever Be Remembered is a perfect way to round off the album. Yes, still prog house and harder tracks, but there's a mix for everyone - that's what an album should be imo. Good video mate!

I wasn't even considering listening to this album, but now that I hear snippits of some of these tracks (especially the darker, clubbier front half), I'm really intrigued

Let's say I enjoyed every single track in Sentio, especially all the progressive house tracks. Some really surprises me (such as Good Morning and Limitless).
Probably Quantum is my least favorite, but that's just me - I put a lot of expectation when it comes to Martin and Brooks
And Funk - it might need more time to absorb all the elements cause it's just really weird to me (though now I have got used to the flow)
I'll give this one between 9 and 9.5 out of 10 (yeah partly because Martin is my favorite DJ/Producer of all time)

I think the album is more like Martin Garrix put into one. After 2015-16 he has vastly expanded his sound. 2015 and earlier is was strictly like Bigroom music (Animals, Tremor, Turn up The Speakers, Virus). After 2016, he has multiple styles under the "Martin Garrix style". I think most the sound of each song has been done before by him. Like if you if you listen to Game Over, it has a similiar sound to Limitless.
I think the album is more like him collectively deliverying his "sound" in a single package. I think the definition of "Album" does not qualify here as it can be an EP/LP whatever it is called. Albums as far as I know have a common theme and sound and all of that. This is not the same actually. It is more in the line of his "7" EP he released years ago where he released 7 songs, all collabs with other artists.
But yeah I really like it. I am more of a festival/mainstage music type fan, so I was not expecting to like the "club"-sounding tracks but I think that is not the case. It is a really great one.

Limitless is my favorite song of this album. Melodies are awesome, chords as well and the sound is so unique. Basically, all the club songs of his album are really cool but the progressive ones are just a copy paste.

Favs were Follow, Reboot, Starlight and Quantum.
Funk and Good Morning would go absolutely crazy live but I don't think I'll go back to those ones tbh.
The other tracks just felt super uninspired to me.
Overall I think it's a solid project, nothing really creative but still enjoyable nonetheless.

Hey man have you ever heard of the artist BUNT.? He released his debut album a couple weeks ago called Folktales and it's extremely solid. He's the closest producer to Avicii in my opinion, would be cool to see you react to something of his!

  • @Jef_
    @Jef_ Před 2 lety +10

First 4 tracks are awesome, then it falls back into this safe mainstream prog house. Still a solid album, but theres a lot of missed potential in the second half ( and when I read the comments, I don't think I'm the only one that thinks about it like that). Great review tho

5 months late but here I am haha. I really enjoyed the album overall but I agree with you on the part of it not being really clubby it that makes sense. I get your point about the progressive house tracks that are not something innovative or too original, but that's still his sound so I'm okay with them being kind of a copy paste of older stuff. I'm an EDM fan and not just a Martin Garrix fan, so I always try to be the most objective possible. I really liked the album also cause of the old EDM memories it brings in it. Follow sounds insane to me, that reminds me a lot of that older electro house years but with a way more powerful sound design. Then there's Reboot, that sounds so new and original. I mean it's a mix of a lot of stuff and I don't understand why he announced it as a club album, but I honestly like it a lot. He did an amazing job imo! I'm a big fan of melodic/emotional stuff so those progressive house tracks really hit me. I'm also a big fan of harder stuff and tracks like Reboot, Follow and Good Morning made me go crazy. As a Garrix fan I really missed this kind of music during the covid years so yeah I'm really happy with what he released. Loved your video and love the fact that you're always honest, even if you know that your comments may raise some anger/hate as in this case. Keep doing what you're doing bro!

Always enjoy hearing your takes even if I don't agree with them because they are always well explained. As a huge Martin Garrix fan, I enjoyed this album a lot with Starlight, Oxygen & Reboot probably being my top 3 tracks. I agree with you that the album feels like two halves with the darker beginning and ending with the uplifting vocal-heavy progressive tracks and feel that he shouldn't have called this a club album as that is misleading.
Personally, I enjoyed the second half as well and as you said, most hardcore Garrix fans will probably agree with me. How I interpret the mishmash of both styles is that Garrix wants to experiment like most artists but also wants to keep churning out what he is good at and what his hardcore fans like. He has mentioned before that he likes alternating releases between pop-heavy tracks, club tracks and progressive anthems so that everyone is kinda happy. Previously, he released his experimental tracks on aliases like Area21 and Ytram but I think he is slowly releasing some new darker stuff under the Garrix name like Pressure before and Limitless, Reboot and Good Morning now that he previously might have considered releasing under Ytram.
I understand that non-Garrix fans want him to experiment and use his obvious talent to push boundaries and try new things but I don't expect him to go all out, especially not under the Garrix name. Personally, I'm happy with the current ratio of a few new things that I may or may not like along with a few classic progressive anthems.
Anyway, great video and I wish you luck and hope to hear more of your reactions and takes.

Yeah as a Garrix fan, i agree. We want progressive house from him, so the second half of the albums feels like a call back to when prog house is still a high thing in EDM so those progressive tracks feels like a treat.

For me, Oxygen and If we’ll ever be remembered are great tracks too. I also find Find You a really beautiful track. I wouldn’t call it generic land, since it is what Martin is special in. It’s like criticizing Guns N’ Roses for always doing Hard Rock. Let’s appreciate the quality, melodic and production levels in these tracks and enjoy them :)

@@THEONE-kh8iw I understand, of course it’s always good to hear something new from him, but calling If we’ll ever be remembered generic doesn’t makes sense to me, for all other PH tracks I can understand. Also, people expect to receive something new from him, but if we check Martin’s career, probably he’s the one producer that has been experimenting with new sounds and changing genres within his tracks. As a top producer and DJ, I guess Martin has his own reasons of why he did these songs. At the end, every producer does what they like, and that’s where they get their inspiration :)
