- Decades before the Civil War ended slavery, there were significant revolts and uprisings by slaves who fought for their freedom. One of the most notable slave revolts happened in 1831: they called it Nat Turner's Rebellion.
Rick Francis provided us with some historical insight into Nat Turner's Rebellion. He has a unique tie to the rebellion: he is a descendant of the family that owned Nat Turner.

Kinda telling, that the descendant still calls it an insurection.
It was an insurrection. Btw I have two Nat Turner hoodies.
And you wonder why he rebelled? He is a hero to all foundational black Americans and a beacon of hope against White Supremacy
We are not African Americans dummy Wake up
Yep. I consider him to be one of the greatest if not THE greatest African American in history.

if those 200 additional black slaves that were killed for nothing would have joined Turner we would be telling a different story

I'm soooooo HAPPY to hear u using the word BONDAGE instead of SLAVERY or SLAVE. Ty bc our ancestors were not Slaves they were Humans in Bondage... force to do free work called slavery so it's a act =verb not a person=noune.
How can I find him I am a descendant of Nat Turner
Ur 🥰 cute
Yes i love this man
This man is a legend ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
All of the documents and artifacts shown here belong in the Smithsonian National museum in Washington DC. Why on earth are they sitting in some small town historical society building? This us part of US national history. Appalling.
I live in Norfolk Virginia all my life and never learned about Nat Turner smh
Deep.
I'm really impressed by this descendant.

Lmao they don't know where the body is? Lies 😂😂
They know where the body is it's all over the place
They used his body to make grease and a lot more that's disgusting
@@ericedwards1301 Man it's a bunch of lies, they would have made a real example out of his whole brigade
@@laymonsavage2825 they did
I find it interesting he still uses the term "slaves" to refer to those who saved his ancestors lives. He should have said : "the same people whom my ancestors exercised ownership over saved their lives, and for that - they are heroes in my book". But instead he still speaks with the air of superiority - meaning it was their job to save their masters, this is what was expected of them to do. With that thinking Mr. FRANCIS is letting everyone know by using the term *slave* that they were snitches. Peep the game family in the language, and don't get caught up in the conversation. People will plot on tou while speaking eloquently, but it is the use of select terms that show their hand. Stay woke.
❤❤❤ Wow
You don’t kill children they were born and taught that! He was wrong for that!
They killed our children
Then why did they do it our children they had no regard for our children they had no problem feeding our children to alligators and killing them anytime you harms someone child there always a chance they could get revenge and come after your children so if they really cared about their children they wouldn’t have put them in such a dangerous position at the end of the day thats was full out war and had it been switched they would have done the same to blacks had they enslaved them
Those white adults were once children too and taught that. He wasn’t wrong for that
I don’t agree with you. He was fighting slavery and the rapes etc. he was fighting for his freedom.
Of course the white 👿👿👿 feels that way 😂
Sad but the fact those kids were inheritors to slaves doesn’t justify killing them. They didn't choose to be inheritors. Their parents chose that for them
Well if you came up as a descendant of slaves you might see it differently. Oppression makes a wise man mad.
@@ShawnCman I understand that but then we'd excuse all criminals that grew up in extremely harsh situations
@@keifer7813 you are short sighted. How do you think slaves felt about their master's when they delt with the horrors of being owned as property and not even seen as a man/woman. Do you think the slaves saw their 'owners' as criminals?
@@ShawnCman Of course. What part of my comment do you disagree with?
@@keifer7813 a generationally chattel enslaved persons idea of becoming free would see getting free by any means necessary. Where as your one sidedness won’t allow you to see taken out future enslavers as a problem to your future freedoms of someone who was a hand me down slave.
