This is an updated version of the classic late- 60s version. This is so all over the place. It has moments off 'ok-ness 0:13 , but then it goes into this (0:28) ghastly cabaret-show sleaze (0:40)

Take 6 had a couple of videos played on VH1 back when VH1 played a fair amount of adult contemporary type music back around 1989 or 1990. THey backed up then newcomer KD Lang on a song called Riding the Rails, and Don Henley on his popular song New York Minute on the End of the Innocence album.

There are nine cues that are variations of what you describe that used to be out there in RealAudio format.
The copies in my library are listed as tttt90U1 through ...U9 for the vocal versions. U1-U3 are "You don't know how to tell the truth...YEAH!" in various key increments; U4 through U6 are the same but 100% vocal with no orchestral backing. U7 through U9 is the doo-wop version identical to what you describe. U10 through U13 are instrumental-only versions of the same, similar to the broadcast 1990 cues (which are in the same library of RealAudio clips).
There's a lounge version of the theme under U14 which doesn't have that much in common with the main theme other than the outtro.

This happened during the 90/91 Season
This was the 1st time that the show moved to California after 25 years in New York City, the 1st time that the show aired on Daytime Network Television in over 20 years and the 1st version not to feature the late Dean of Game Shows Uncle Bill Cullen who died on July 7, 1990 after his battle with lung cancer
also, during the 90/91 season, NBC was still #1 on Prime Time Television with Cheers as the #1 show on Prime Time Television (Kirstie Alley who played Rebecca Howe won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) ended Cosby's Reign after 5 years at #1 and Roseanne after 1 year, Cosby Show, A Different World, The Golden Girls and Empty Nest would stay in the Nielsen Ratings Top 10 one last time
NBC also debut The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Will Smith, the late James Avery as Uncle Phil, Janet Hubert and later Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso RiBerio, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana Ali and Joseph Marcell as Geoffrey Butler
Plus NBC saw the NBA return to NBC and debut Roundball Rock performed by John Tesh of Entertainment Tonight Fame

You are correct ... I produced this for Score Productions .. horns/rhythm arranged by Glen Daum .. vocals by Take 6 recorded in Nashville .. the official reason given for not using this was that the network was going primetime with the show and vocals were not wanted -- even though the original, composed by Bob Israel & patterned after Georgy Girl, had vocals from beginning to end -- as does this.

I really dont think Swanna or Garagiola fit this show. Swann was awful and Garagiola seemed like he didnt care. I woulda begged Elliott to stay (Yes i know he left over a messy lawsuit). Does anyone know if Garry Moore was available or if his health was too bad or if he was even dead? If so, my thoughts are that if Convy were available and not dying at the time, he woulda fit perfect. I mean, i may be off, but I see alot of Tattletales in TTTT.
