  • Part 3 of a 1989 probably Austrian (maybe German) documentary on Hong Kong's fabled Kowloon Walled City.

I'm not sure why but, holy smokes, this one was very hard to translate. That's my lame excuse for the delay. Sorry 'bout that but it's actually true. I try to make the translations as literal as possible and that is hard to do for certain idioms. It also frequently results in pretty awkward english. I don't even want to think about how many times i ignored english grammar rules just to keep the translation as literal as possible. On the plus side you actually get a feeling of how the german language is constructed by watching this. Of course the narrator has his own style and german in documentaries is not the same as spoken german but you get what i mean.
Oh, and it was late so i skipped the spell check. (Lame, i know.)

While watching this I keep finding myself rewinding over and over, trying to catch every little detail of the city and the people.

I can hear the kids screaming at the old woman collecting scrap metal "wow she is so aweson" in Catonese. I was born that kowloon not the wall but i know what and where they were referring to, most these places have been knocked down. The only place in Hong Kong similar to this is a place call Chungking Mansion it is a maze in there it is no fucking joke people a dark place where pure pure evil can exist there have been people murdered, killed raped, mugged etc.

Couldn't have said it better. I am also fascinated by this sort of place. Reminds me of the steampunk/cyberpunk culture but in a more realistic and tangible way. Cheers.
